Meet the world's most perfect dog! Sir Charles Barkley 'Barkley' 13-019!

Barkley 13-019 came in on January 13th due to the SO not having enough time for him and is being fostered in Woodbury, Mn.

This beautiful male puppy will be one in February! He is neutered, microchipped, no known allergies, and house trained. Barkley loves to show you his favorite tricks such as sit, shake, lay down and his all time favorite which is smile smile smile! Barkley loves to play with my current RAGOM dog and gets along well with all ages of people. He loves to cuddle up with you on the floor. Barkley is usually taking naps during the day. He isn't a hyper puppy but pretty mellow.

The SO said if left alone Barkley would chew on shoes out of boredom. I only kennel him if I leave the house to run errands. He isn't a huge fan of being kenneled but if offering a treat for a reward he will walk right in. He hasn't shown any interest in chewing things around the house. He does like to chew on the Nyla Bones!

Barkley loves to see you and some times he gets excited to where he will piddle a little on the floors. Now I have noticed if he accidentally pees from excitement around men/boys he will run away and hide, or cower by them. When the man/boy will go to Barkley to comfort him he will pee again. But once he knows everything is ok and he is safe he will just wag his cute tail, give you kisses and smile smile smile. He is fine and happy if this happens around females. The SO said as he is getting older the submissive peeing has been happening less and less.

Barkley has no resource guarding issues. In fact I haven't seen or believe there is an angry emotion in this happy puppy!

The SO said Barkley will wander away if outside, so he will do best with a fenced yard.

Barkley will be visiting the vet next week and I will be keeping you updated!

It has been pretty mellow over here in Barkley's world. If he isn't playing with my resident dog he is either patiently sitting in front of you with his cute puppy dog eyes waiting and hoping for some love, or he's sleeping! His favorite place to sleep is next to the patio door where it is nice and cool. He has such a thick beautiful coat that I can only imagine how nice it must feel to be against a cool glass door.

Barkley is a submissive dog and just likes to be happy and stay out of trouble :) He isn't cat tested yet and hopefully I can get that done soon. I totally see him either

Try and play with the cat, or
Ignore the cat.

I do know Barkley is good with kids ages 7 and up and don't see younger ones being a problem as he loves people :)

Also the peeing out of excitement has almost vanished! I can't remember the last time he submissively peed...other than his vet visit...but I'd pee too at the size of that needle!

Also it is pretty funny and cute how sometimes Barkley will be so tired but fight the eyes wanting to close just so he can continue to sit there and get attention...he will fall asleep in your hand!

Guess whose birthday is coming up?! You guessed it! Sir Charles Barkley 13-019 :) He will be ONE on Feb 19th!

Barkley love-loves his Nyla chew toys! He chewed his last one up so much I had to toss it. You wouldn't think much of this except I left the house and he got a little bored....so bored he decided to chew through the vacuum cord :) Lucky for me I'm great at being a handyman lol Let's just say I went out and bought him another Nyla bone ASAP and we haven't had a chewing problem since :) I never lock Barkley up. He does stay in the tv room that's attached to the kitchen without problem. He doesn't counter surf so you can trust him. I have let him roam the entire house a couple times but he destroys whatever is in the bathroom trashcans! But if you are tidy and keep everything picked up in your house then Barkley would do just fine roaming the house. At night he just sleeps in the tv room...sometimes on the couch :)

He has been great with meeting people! The trick is giving the person a treat to give Barkley right away before Barkley has a chance to bark at them. Once he gets his treat he knows you are safe for him and he then loves you to pieces.

Barkley has not been little kid tested or cat tested.

Barkley's trip to the vet!

Wednesday night Barkley 13-019 had his first vet visit. I leashed him up, walked him to the truck and he just jumped right in - smiling! He did so well on the car ride. He just laid down in the back and relaxed. I did take a picture of him in the back seat but his face expression doesn't look too pleased haha.

Once I parked and started talking to him, he got his smile back and as you can see in the picture he decided that sitting with me up in the front was much more enjoyable :)

When we got inside the vet's office he was all smiles and wagging his tail. Now one thing he has started to do with strangers when they come up to meet him, he will start barking and barking while sniffing them. Once the stranger lets Barkley sniff them and they give him treats so they can become friends, Barkley will settle down and love them to pieces. Once Barkley warmed up to the first lady he would walk up to everyone else that he never met before, sit down and wait for his treat instead of barking at them. So we are learning that the way to Barkley's heart is through treats! I don't want to give Barkley a bad reputation because he really is the happiest, sweetest dog, but he wants to know he can trust you, and you are going to love him up as much as he will love you. He has never snapped at anyone he is meeting.

So back to the vet visit! This big boy weighs 79 lbs! He is a bit chubby so we are going to watch his weight which he might be dropping some pounds fast since he is so active now playing with my resident dog.

Barkley was all up to date on his vaccines yay!

One thing I forgot to mention earlier is how much Barkley sheds! He sheds...a lot. His fur is so dense, soft and beautiful though! I took a picture of my legs while we were at the vet so you can get an idea. i have to vacuum every day to keep up with Barkley. But he is so worth it :) You can definitely help him shedding his fur in your house by investing in a deshedding comb. This comb gets rid of fluffy undercoat that he sheds everywhere and your life will be much easier. I haven't had a chance to do it since it has been so cold outside! You will definitely want to comb him outside, or on a blanket inside...but keep a vacuum close by, this comb takes out piles of fur.

Guess who got a bath today!? You guessed it! Sir Charles Barkley :) This little fluff ball loves water! His SO did say Barkley loves to swim up at their cabin, but I wasn't sure how he would do with bath time. He loved it! Barkley walked right into the shower, smiling and couldn't wait for me to turn on the water! His coat is so thick and full of fluff I had to scoop out his baby fur from the drain when he was done, otherwise the shower would have filled up and turned into a bath hehe :)

Well looks like running around in circles after his exciting bath has tuckered this little pooch out and it's nap time!

Happy Tuesday from Barkley 13-019 :)

Barkley has been an absolute peach to foster. He fit right in and was comfortable as soon as he stepped through the front door.

Barkley got a visitor today and he did very well. He walked right up to the stranger, sat down, wagged his tail and for the first time barked. I think he was just trying to talk and tell her how excited he was to see a new face. Barkley is so polite and doesn't jump on strangers but just sits there smiling and lets you pet him.

Barkley is a little bummed today that it's sub zero temperature outside and doesn't get to go for a walk, but at least he has his Buddy Rufus to play tug-o-war with. :) Boy does he just love to play with other dogs....now if he can only convince my resident dog to snuggle up with him and love it as much as Barkley does, his life would be complete :)

Rufus and Barkley
