Sloan made the adventure down to Iowa on Sunday to his new foster home. Thank you Pat and Rick for all of your help. Sloan has made a lot of progress over the last 2 days. He is doing great going up and down the stairs in our 3 story home. He doesn't even need a our resident Goldens to go up or down them first anymore. Sloan loves to lay next to our fireplace and take naps. Last night all three of the kids were laying in front of the fireplace, and George our resident dog was snoring and kept waking Sloan up. It was too cute. I wish I could have gotten a picture. Today I gave Sloan his first haircut, and he did great except he didn't like the brush. We can now see his pretty eyes, and he doesn't look as sad. He gave me tons of kisses afterwards so that must be his way of saying that he likes it. Sloan's forever home must be dedicated to grooming. He will need to be profressional groomed every 8-10 weeks. Well, Sloan and I are going to call it a night. Meet Sir Sloan, 11 months old and 43.5 pounds. His name is for being a 'fighter', the kind to survive and that is what he is. In less than a day he has been rescued, transported, introduced to a home enviroment which included 3 shampoos and a conditioner. :)
He has already mastered walking through doorways, down two steps to the garage and this morning walked up four of the deck steps (which are covered with outdoor carpet). He loves Ranger 07-237 and they play outside like he has been doing so forever. Where Ranger goes, Sloan goes. He ate from my hand last night, has done his business outside, and decided after being out and about he didn't care to stay in the big mastiff crate by himself. So up he went to the bedroom and a smaller crate with a nice doggie bed in it. Once in, not a peep all night. Wasn't sure about coming out this morning, but as Ranger licked his face through the crate, his tail wagged and with a little help he came out, down the stairs and out the door.
More on him later. Though when you think what he has been through and accomplished in less than 24 hours, you know he is smart, happy and a fast learner.

Sloan here. Wow what a busy couple of days I have had. I have found the good life, and it includes a warm bath, food, toys, treats, running out side and playing in the snow with Ranger 07-237, sleeping on the people bed, having a doggie bed in my crate, ( I'm still a pup and can't roam free yet ) and learning how to run up and down stairs. Whew!! All this is only 3 1/2 days. I love being a RAGOM dog. I still don't understand why I can't take one of the bathroom rugs outside with me to play, go figure.

Normally I wouldn't send so many pictures, but these are the only pictures I will most likely be sending of Sloan. I wanted everyone to see how well he is doing.
Sloan has made huge strides in the past couple days. As you can see from the picture of him arriving home with me, he was pretty sad, not to mention smelly, hungry and came with ear mites and roundworm. He has been vetted and was neutered today and will be coming home tomorrow. He has gone from not wanting to come out of his crate, to not wanting to be in it. He has been sleeping on the bed with Ranger 07-237 and resident Jake. Nary an accident in the bedroom. We have had a couple #1 accidents, but only because I have not gotten him out when I should have. The first day he had to be carried in and out to go potty. Once out he was in heaven running and playing. Getting him to come in was only accomplished by getting the other 2 in the house, then standing behind the garage door til he came in. NO more. He knows when we are going out and is right there with the troops. He managed to walk up the carpeted steps on the deck after watching Ranger. Then he tackled the house steps inside. Only problem was he would go up but was not ready to try coming down. Mission accomplished within a day and half he is doing steps up and down! As long as he sees me or Ranger he's fine and willing to go. Going to the vet wasn't as easy, as I still had to carry him, but brought Ranger with for support. Sloan will eat out of his own food dish now, though tonight at the vet I had to hand feed him and he cried when I left. :( He loves to snuggle on the couch, though hasn't figured how to get up on it. He loves to play tug with Ranger, chase him, wrestle with him and just be a dog. Best of all he will even come into the garage while I'm standing there and without Ranger coming in first. So many firsts for him and many more to come.
Sloan will be going to his permanent foster home in IA in the near future. So if you think you might want to meet this handsome, sweet, smart ( I forgot to mention we are working on sitting ) boy, contact ragom and you can still see meet him while he's in MN. Sloan will need another dog to help him to continue to grow and learn. Small children may not be adviseable unless they are very dog saavy as Sloan is still learning to trust humans and can be skittish. But at the rate he's making progress, well he ought to be ready for obedience school in no time at all.
