Sonny 10-083

Profile

Meet Sonny! Sonny is a 5 year old, PB, male (intact, but that will soon change!) Golden Retriever. He is BEAUTIFUL! He has a dark red coat that is so shiny it gleams, and it has just a hint of curl! Adorable! Or should I say handsome :) Yep, he's a stud!  He has just the very start of some graying happening on his sweet face and a small white patch of hair on his chest. He is about 70 lbs (a guess), whatever his exact weight it is nearly perfect for his frame, which is on the smaller side for a male. Sonny has the pure GOLDEN temperament and loves everyone he meets... kids, dogs: both large and small, and lived with a cat. This is one fantastic dog.

Sonny came into RAGOM because his family no longer had the time to commit to him and he was being crated a lot, so they knew this was for the best. It is clear he was well taken care of and loved! He does need some brushing up on his manners :) He is house trained. He sits and lays down and will shake a paw on command and does come when called. He was also trained to an Invisible Fence at his previous home (we have a physical fence here and he loves to explore the yard). The skills he needs some work on:  He has a bad habit of jumping up for attention and likes to check out the tops of the counters ... ya know to make sure they are clean :) and pulls on a flat collar. So, overall... simple things that will take some additional training to make Sonny the best he can be! He is eager to please, so training him will be very enjoyable. I bet he will be a star student :)

We are so excited to have him here in our home and looking forward to learning more about him. In just a day it is easy to see how wonderful and sweet this boy is! I suspect he will not be in foster care long at all.. We will get him into the vet to update a few vaccines and to get him scheduled for his neuter early in the upcoming week. I tried to get some photos that would do this handsome guy justice but I don't think I succeeded. I will keep trying! Maybe I will try before the play session next time... so the looong tongue stays in his mouth ;)

We will report more soon. Stay tuned!

Updates

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Sonny boy came through his neuter and tooth extraction surgery with flying colors. He came home last night very groggy. FD (foster Dad) asked if I had the right dog when we walked out of the vet clinic :) But after a couple hours of rest in his crate and a little food Sonny was back to his happy-go-lucky self! Let the "keep him quiet" fun begin! :)

I really cannot say enough about how sweet this guy is. He is a total love bug who loooves belly rubs and just hanging out with his people. Sonny is in need of some polish. He needs love, structure, boundaries, and training to make him shine! He has the willing attitude and winning personality that is just prime for learning so it is perfect. He loves his walks very much and will need to have an adoptive family that is committed to giving him daily exercise. He is not a hyper dog, but is an active dog who benifits greatly from a nice long daily walk. I have only heard Sonny bark once and it was because the resident dogs were barking their heads off about something... he just had to join in ;)

Enjoy the new photos! Thanks for reading about the sweetness that is Sonny!
