RAGOM fans please welcome Ms. Tess (also known as Sophia). Tess arrived late Saturday evening with 10 other dogs from a very long day's journey. She wants to thank Karen and Dorothy for driving her and the other new RAGOM dogs back! Here is a little bit about Tess as we know it:

Tess came to RAGOM from a breeder in Missouri. She was born sometime in 2002, so she is approximately 6 years of age. She has a very soft and silky coat with some interesting red and blonde high-lites. The uncanny thing is she has the same color and markings as my Indy (Jacinda 07-253) who also is a former Missouri puppy mill girl. The big difference is that Indy has a very curly/wavy coat and Tess has a very soft and straight coat. My guess is she is around 75 pounds or so. We will find out for sure on Tuesday afternoon at her vet appointment.

For being a former puppy mill mom, Tess sure has settled in nicely. She went for 2 walks today, one this morning and one tonight. She does a lot of weaving from side to side and has also tried to wiggle out of the Gentle Leader to no avail. She let me brush her for hours without any sign of displeasure. We brushed a bushel basket full of old undercoat from her fur. Then she had a bath with lots of nice smelling doggie oatmeal shampoo. She is getting better at going in and out of the house. The doors and the stairs are scary for her yet.

She kenneled up nicely last night and did not make any noise until the rest of the pack woke up this morning. So far no accidents in the house. She has not eaten much food yet and does not seem to be treat motivated. She chased after the tennis ball for awhile tonight. I think it is safe to say she is enjoying being a RAGOM girl - and she arrived less than 24 hours ago!

Thanks again for reading up on Tess's blog. Feel free to contact placementatragom [dot] org if you would like to meet Tess.
Tess has one more thing in common. Saturday July 26 is her freedom day but it also is one of Foster Dad's other foster's birthday. Happy belated 2nd birthday to Tessa 07-527!

Updates

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Hello my RAGOM fans. The big news for me is that I will soon be moving to my long awaited forever home. I will soon get to show my new family what a "Love Princess" I am. FD loves to give me lots of hugs and kisses each day. And if he stops too soon I gently remind him with a nudge of my nose or a little paw in his lap. He falls for it every time. Maybe I will work my charms for my new family which will have two adults and their daughters and a big furr sister, Savannah. Can you feel my excitement?

I will likely move to my new home this very weekend. So until then I will have lots of fun with FD and the pack. Like some more games of ball. I so love to beat both Indy and Dakota in a game of fetch. One of my other favorite past times is a good wrestling match with my pal Indy. Not sure why FD tells us to hold the noise level down once in awhile.

Thank you to my sponsors and my fans for following my journey these past months. RAGOM amazes me in how much they do each day for dogs like me. Thank you!

XOXO
Sophia

Sophia here. FD stepped out to do some last minute shopping. He has been a little slow in the update department so I will let you all know what has been going on with me lately. I got to go to the Burnsville PetCo on Dec. 13th to meet the many RAGOM fans and the other foster dogs. I sure loved the attention from you RAGOM fans especially one kind couple who fed me some mighty tasty treats. I also made a new boyfriend named Carter (07-487). What a fun day that turned out to be:)

I will get to do a little road trip to visit FD's family for Christmas. I will be returning home on the 26th as I will be meeting the C. family from WI. I met the Mom at the November PetSmart event. This time I will get to meet the entire family. Paws crossed this could finally be what I have been dreaming about for months.

My next vet appointment is on the 29th. After waiting four full months I will be tested to see if the three heart worm treatments were successful. Provided the test comes back negative then I will just have one more hurdle to do and that is to be spayed.

FD finally got around to taking a few new pictures, so here they are. Us golden retrievers (Indy 07-253 and myself) were looking pretty svelte. Our little guy, Dakota, only wanted to play another never ending game of fetch. Indy and I love to steal the tennis balls and make the little fellow mad every now and then. But we have not been doing that lately as FD keeps telling us if we are not nice we may just have some coal in our stockings and not bones, treats, and toys. What's a girl to do?

Blessings to you all this Holiday Season and Good Tidings to you in the New Year!

XOXO
Sophia

Hello my adoring RAGOM fans. Just wanted to get on-line quick and send a new update in and let you know what I have been up to lately. My pal Indy and I were having so much fun last week. We were squirrel hunting. We cornered one up in the tree and if FD had not made us come inside, well let's just say the squirrel population would have been less in our neighborhood.

I paid a visit to my friends at the wonderful vet office. I am up to date on all my vaccinations. My only item remaining is something they call a spay procedure. We have to wait a few more months on that. But don't let that stop you from showing some interest in me. One vet tech is so trying to convince her parents that I would be just the right dog for them. You see I am very charming and intelligent. I have a trim figure, only 63 pounds. If you could not tell from my pictures I have natural high-lites in my hair, who needs a salon? FD calls me his love sponge, as I so love attention. I have been known to nudge my way to the front of the line to get hugs and kisses. Hey I am a former puppy mill mom who is just trying to make up for some lost love.

If you would like to meet this sweet girl, she will be at the Richfield PetSmart on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 11:00 to around 1:00. So please come and meet Sophia and the other GReat RAGOM dogs, or let send a note to placementatragom [dot] org if you would like a one on one meeting.

Thanks for reading up on Miss Sophia and her latest adventures.

XOXO

Sophia here saying hello to my fans and my fabulous sponsors, Jim & Billie Jean G. Wow wasn't the weather this past weekend just stupendous? FD had us furr butts outside for the better part of both Saturday and Sunday. He worked (raking leaves) while my friends Indy & Dakota and I played, he-he. We have been trying to get our new foster sister, Lauren 08-498, to play along but she is a bit shy and scared yet. FD says I am one heckuva good ball player. I get so excited when I see FD pick up the "chuck it" stick. That's me in the new pictures just waiting for FD to throw the darn ball :) Geez he takes his time.

FD here now. It is hard to believe that this girl has been here for over 3 months now. What a transformation in this sweet girl. Sophia absolutely loves to play ball. Once in awhile you have to follow her rules. When she tires out she will just lay down in the grass a few feet away and she puts her prized tennis ball under her chest and legs lest no other resident dog or FD try to steal her ball. Sophia smiles almost constantly and is almost always just a mere foot away. For the most part her manners are impeccable. She does not get on any furniture, unlike said resident dogs. Sophia likes to de-stuff the soft plush toys and a few area rugs have had corners chewed on. FD no longer leaves stuffy toys out and he has learned to spray a little bitter apple on his rugs. I took this as a sign that she was bored from being kept calm while recuperating from the heartworm treatments. Now that she can play ball and go on walks no more issues.

If you would like to meet this happy girl please contact placementatragom [dot] org.  Thanks for reading up on the many deserving RAGOM dogs.

XOXO

Hello RAGOM fans it's me, Sophia checking back in. First an update on me. I went to see my good friend, Dr. K, this past Saturday. I got rave reviews from Dr. K and her staff. I weigh in at just over 63 pounds, which my friend Dr. K. says is an ideal weight for me. I was given a booster shot for DHLPCC and will need one more shot in 3 weeks. The remaining issue I have is to wait until the end of December to be re-tested for the presence of any heartworms. Dr. K. told FD that since I had the three treatment protocol that a medical study has shown that in most cases 98% of the heartworms are eradicated in those 3 treatments. So I would have to say my odds are really high that I am over the dreaded heartworm disease. The only thing I didn't quite get was talk about something called a "spay" after the negative heartworm test near the end of December or early in January. Dr. K. says my heart sounds good and I can increase my physical exercise. Yippee! Move over Dakota, those tennis balls are mine now (thanks Jane!).

FD had a big surprise for us on Sunday. He disappeared for most of the afternoon. When he came home Indy, Dakota, and I noticed a horrible odor before he even came in the house. Indy and I both knew from our own experiences as former puppy mill girls that there must be someone else with FD. Sure enough we have a new foster sister, Lauren 08-498, who will be staying here for a bit. She smelled far better than FD as she was bathed like the other new dogs RAGOM rescued on Sunday from a breeder who retired from the business.

FD has a picture of me, Sophia, and a RAGOM success named Milo 07-537 taken at the RAGOM picnic in September. That Milo is one tall goodlooking male dog. I think I am quite the looker myself. So what are you waiting for, get in touch with placementatragom [dot] org if you would like to know more about me.

FD has been a little bit slow with the updates. So I have taken it upon myself to let my RAGOM fans know exactly what I have been up to lately. I am a really good traveler. The past two weekends we have been in opposite ends of the state, south on Sept. 27 and up north this past weekend. I loved the trip to the family cabin "up north". The weather was sunny and my pals Indy & Dakota showed me some fun frolicking in the fallen leaves while playing a rousing game of fetch. FD was so proud of me when I would get the ball and bring it back to him. I taunted FD really good by not releasing the ball. He had to offer a treat or another ball to get me to release.

Sophia has a vet appointment this Saturday. She will get all of her vaccinations up to date. We hope to also get a better idea of the time frame for her spay procedure. As well as she has done the past 5 weeks since her last round of heartworm treatment we are hopeful that it will be sooner than later.

Sophia would love to thank her generous sponsors, Jim and Billie Jean G. and their RAGOM dog, Roy! You have made it possible for her to receive the medical attention that she so needed. Thank you to all of her RAGOM fans for following her updates. This gentle loving girl is going to make a GReat addition to someone's home. If that is you, please contact placementatragom [dot] org

Greetings my fellow RAGOM fans. Sophia here checking in to let you all know how GReat I am feeling. I first have to give a big Thank You to my wonderful sponsors, Jim & Billie Jean G. and their RAGOM dog Roy! It has been almost two weeks since the latest round of heartworm treatments and let me tell you I am feeling super. FD keeps telling me and resident dog Indy to knock off the rough housing. We like to do a little mouthing with each other and when FD isn't looking we do some wrestling. He keeps muttering something about installing a "doggie cam", whatever that is. FD laughs at me because I really like to pick up toys, tennis balls, and kongs and bring them back to my crate one by one.

Sophia has really settled in here nicely. She no longer growls at the resident dogs if they get to close to her space. She loves to be brushed and groomed. She does like attention. She hangs out with FD and often times puts her head up on his knee while he types at the computer. Then she gently turns her head and looks at me with those big brown eyes that just make you melt. Of course FD tells her numerous times a day what a lucky girl she is to have become a RAGOM dog to be loved by many. Sophia's future home should likely have the following:

  • Another dog to help show her fun things Golden furbutts can do.
  • Someone who is patient and willing to take her to obedience training to learn a few good dog manners.
  • A quieter environment (children under the age of 7 would not be a good thing), loud noises and sudden movements do tend to spook her yet.

What you will get in return is a gentle sweet girl that just wants to please you. Sophia would love to meet you at the annual RAGOM picnic on Saturday September 20th at Snail Lake Park in Shoreview, MN. Hope to see you there! Thanks again Jim and Billie Jean G. and Roy for helping with Sophia's medical costs through the sponsorship program!

XOXO

Hello my RAGOM fans,

Sophia here. FD has been too busy with outdoor projects that he has been neglectful of letting my fans know what a really good golden girl I have morphed into. My fellow co-hort, one Indy 07-253, has really showed me what this RAGOM good life is all about. I so want to play with Indy but FD keeps me from really enjoying the fun stuff. He thinks he can fool me from engaging in some good old fashioned rough housing and romping by giving me lots of ear scritches, tummy rubs, and hugs and kisses. Boy do I know how to make him eat out of the palm of my hand.

FD here. Sophia has learned the masterful art of de-stuffing any stuffed toy in the blink of an eye. She also likes to grab hold of the tennis balls and try to de-felt them much to my resident dog, Dakota's, chagrin. Sophia has run of the house while I am at work and has had no potty accidents in the past 3 weeks. She now knows how to go up and down the steps even though we are not supposed to be doing this while undergoing the heartworm treatment. So now FD closes the door to the lower level to keep said dogs on the main floor of the house.

Sophia is a total love sponge. She craves attention but not in an annoying OCD manner. She just loves to put her head on one's lap for some rubs and kisses. She also very keenly watches everything FD does. She will now take treats from my hand and eat them up. Her favorite treat is called "Happy Hips" chicken breast strips that are fortified with glucosamine and chondroitin. She can inhale these almost as quickly as she can de-stuff a stuffy toy.

Please keep our Sophia girl in your thoughts as she will be undergoing her second round of heartworm treatment this Thursday (28th). She may also have to undergo a third round on Friday (29th). Good thing for the upcoming Labor Day holiday so that we all can relax and recuperate with a long weekend. Here are some new pictures of our Sophia girl. If you are at all interested in knowing more about this gem please contact our fabulous advisors at placementatragom [dot] org. If you have ever considered sponsoring a deserving dog scroll to the bottom of RAGOM home page and follow the prompts. Thank you for reading up on Sophia and the other fine RAGOM dogs!
