Profile

Sophie is a former breeder momma. She is very skittish. She has been with us since late October and has come a LONG way! New things, unusual noises, and sudden movements can still make her collapse to the ground and skitter away. She cannot live in a home without another medium to large dog to follow and learn from right now.

Sophie was adopted by a great couple and their two-year-old Golden Retriever, Finn. Sophie invited Finn to play within seconds of meeting him and by reports, the two are in love and great play mates. So happy for Miss Sophie!

Sophie came to us from a commercial breeder. She is 2 years old and had her last litter a few months ago. Sophie suffers from a lack of socialization common to commercially bred dogs. Common noises in the home—like the TV, phone, microwave, dishwasher—are OK now.

New things—like an empty box on the floor, loud noises or sudden movements, dropping something— send her flat to her belly and she skitters away as fast as she can. Sometimes she will then come up to investigate and sometimes she peeks around the corner to keep an eye on it.

She has learned so much over the month we have had her! It is always rewarding to see a scared dog let their guard down and play, run, relax. She follows my dogs everywhere. Sometimes she follows so close that she is walking beside them with her side touching theirs. She won't go out on her own.

She follows me everywhere, too. Sophie is always nearby to get her fair share of pets and always sleeps on the floor right by me.

Sophie is ready for her forever home. It will take a family who is willing to be patient with her as she learns that life is not so scary. If you have a medium to large well-adjusted dog, check out sweet Sophie.
