We’re sad to say that Sora has finally left us this week. She finally lost her fight against a brain tumor.

Our hearts ache and we cry hourly as we think of our incredible, rescued girl who saw us through the worst three years of our lives. We lost parents, we suffered Covid isolation… and Sora was there through it all to keep us in good spirits, give us the kindest attention she knew how, and support us every day. She was the most amazing addition to our family.

It didn’t take long to realize that Sora came to us with such a defined purpose. Her calmness, kindness and humor rescued us in our darkest hours. She was a great hero to us all. While she took our hearts away, she also kept us so very full of life; reminding us to be mindful and to enjoy simpler moments when the weight of the world was pressing.

We have no doubt that Sora picked US instead of the other way around. She really was the rescuer in the home.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  We will always remember her for the gift she was.

It’s been a few years now, and I suppose that I better say hello to everyone!

I have been living the Golden Life ever since RAGOM found my forever family. My thyroid condition is being managed easily, and my allergies… well… they aren’t. My vet added a little fish oil to my meals and my skin and fur have been in great condition.

I rarely recall when I’m outside, but when I do, I run!

My fur is so luxurious, in fact, that I love leaving it everywhere I go! I think that of all the things I like about being with my family, shedding is my favorite.

I shed all over. When they’re not looking, I hop on the couch and shed there. I like plopping down on people’s feet, or next to them on the floor or bed and shedding all over them there. When my family comes home, I run back and forth between their legs until I’ve shed all over their pants. Oh, yes, shedding is my favorite.

Although I’m entering the golden years of my golden life, I still love to play fetch and tug every chance I get. I can’t wait to go for walks around the neighborhood, through the woods, or even just to roam around the trees and lake at the cabin.

Dad seems to think I’ve got some Hound in my DNA because once I’ve got a scent, I will not listen to him until that scent is thoroughly followed to wherever! I get so excited to find bunnies, squirrels, and voles. It’s so much fun to make them run. I do not like these “drones” though. Has anyone else seen these things??? Nasty pests, they are.

All in all, I have been doing my best to be the greatest golden ever. I’ve seen my family through some really fun times and some really sad times, and during it all, I’ve done my job to keep them warm, and safe, and happy.

I’m normally pretty chill; I’m content to nap wherever my family is, but I also know just when to give a poke with a cold nose, or bring a toy or gift to someone when they feel a bit blue. I’m good that way.

Thank you all for helping me to get here. It’s been really fun so far. I even got to eat horse poop once! But, outside of that and one or two other times, I’ve more or less eliminated that from my diet. Once in a while, though, it’s an irresistible snack.

It's me, Sora, with good news!  I've officially selected my forever family and I just know I'm going to be very happy here.  My new home is close to my foster mom so visits are in our future.  Here's a picture of me in my new backyard.

Original Initial Bio:

My name is Sora and, as you can see, I am a BE-U-tiful cream colored Golden Retriever. I just turned five and my foster mom says I’m just about the nicest girl around. I was surrendered to RAGOM because I have allergy and thyroid issues that my family was no longer able to work through. They loved me a lot and I know they miss me.

We’ve put together a plan to address my issues while I’m in RAGOM’s care so I’m hopeful I’ll be good as new in no time at all. I’m now limited to food and treats with a single protein type to see if that helps my skin and I’m due for a thyroid recheck in a week to see if the latest dose is doing the trick. Hopefully my skin and coat will improve with those changes. In the meantime I’m having a blast hanging out in my foster home.

I know all kinds of commands and I have better recall than anybody else who lives in this house! I sound almost perfect, don’t I? I know! In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that, if you let me, I’ll eat my own poop because…well, I love poop. You should view this as motivation to keep the yard clean and eliminate that mess you have every spring. You’re welcome.

I should also say that I lived with kids in my former home but my foster mom says I can be a little mouthy when I play, so prospective adopters would need to be aware of that.

Interested? Well, who wouldn’t be? I will consider all serious applicants so let your placement advisor know if you’d like to be considered.
