Spicy 06-301

Profile

Spicy is a beautiful, dark red, AKC registered, 6 1/2 year old female that grew up on a farm. She became part of the RAGOM family after the farm was sold and she got left behind. She is a very quiet & scared girl. She never had a collar or leash to call her own and never set foot (or paw!!) inside a house before coming to us. It is taking time but she is gradually learning to trust us and is learning to live the golden life.

Spicy had a vet apppointment yesterday and weighs in at 82 lbs (she could lose about 5 of those), and is now up to date on vaccinations. We are waiting to hear the results of her heartworm test (keep fingers and paws crossed that it's negative!!) and is fecal negative. She was microchipped and is tentatively scheduled for a spay on Wednesday. Her ears were dirty but luckily not infected.

Spicy is a very scared girl, exhibiting a lot of puppymill behaviors. When she first came to us she had to be carried into the house, and bellycrawled across the floor. She is making strides in learning to trust us and learning that we will NOT hurt her. She cowers easily and has her tail tucked more often than not. She did not know how to go in and out doors, much less up and down steps, or across hardwood or linoleum floors. She will now enter the doors fairly easily but two steps are about her limit. With A LOT of coaxing she did make it up a flight of stairs (after being with us for 5 days) but needed to be carried back down. She is becoming more comfortable with the hardwood floors but avoids them as much as possible. We will keep working on these things.

When Spicy arrived I spent hours brushing and cutting mats and just sitting with her. She just soaks up the attention and will plead with you with her soulful eyes to give just one more pet. I'm amazed at how well she does on the leash. No pulling, as she is constantly watching me and trying to get as close as she can. Spicy met our three Goldens without any difficulty. She does not play or interact with them but I am hopeful that as she comes out of her shell that she will learn how much fun a playmate can be. I don't think she's ever had a toy in her life.

Spicy adores my three kids, ages 3 1/2, 9 and 12. She follows them and again just soaks up all the love and attention that they give her. She just loves to snuggle. She also loves water.

Spicy can NOT go to a home with kittens. Apparently she has never harmed a full grown cat but she has hurt kittens. Her previous owners has pried kittens from her mouth so to be on the safe side I would also keep her away from cats.

If you are looking for a beautiful, sweet, work in progress Golden girl, then Spicy would be the girl for you.
