It has been a week now and we feel that we know Pearl well enough to accept applications for her forever family.
Pearl is a 2 year old female pure bred golden retriever. She was surrendered for financial reasons. Her family loved her very much. She is spayed and up to date on her shots, heart worm negative and flea and tick preventative. Her vet visit went very well and there are no apparent medical issues. According to the SO she has had some ear infections. She loves to be groomed and is willing to have her nails trimmed.
She loves to go for rides and is disappointed when we leave with out her.
Pearl has settled in very well. She does very well while we are gone and plays with the other family fur kids. We give her free roam of the house during the day. She would do best in a home with another dog. She has never been an only dog and will seek out one of the other fur kids when she is laying down.
She does retrieve and loves to do so. Pearl is the first retriever we have had in a long time who actually will retrieve. She will also play by herself throwing a ball and chasing it. It is pretty funny. She chews on nyla bones and tries to steal them from my other dogs if they are chewing. She's very playful,
We have not had the opportunity to observe her with young children but the surrendering family said that she was good with their children who are 8 years old and up. She is very sweet and probably would do well with younger children. She weighs 87 pounds but only seems a bit over weight to look at. She "licks cats" according to the surrendering owner.
We saw her get in our pond so doesn't have an aversion to water.
She likes to sleep in the middle of our bed and is difficult to boot out. She is rather shy on first meeting strangers and we did hear her growl softly when 3 people arrived to meet her today and we were present. It wasn't threatening but seemed to be an indication that she was uncomfortable. In 30 seconds she was greeting everyone like old friends. She always comes when she is called. Walking on a leash is not a skill that she is very good at....she pulls.
Pearl also smiles...a lot. She smiles when you arrive home and after she awakens from a nap.
The perfect family would have another dog and be willing to allow her on the furniture. They would be active and willing to play with her. A large area for her to in run would be a plus.
She is definitely a people dog, and is a Velcro dog with me. At meal time she eats only what she wants and walks away from the bowl when she is finished. She is not a beggar.
We look forward to applications for this gem, our sweet Pearl.
