We are all things puppy right now in Moorhead, MN, and loving every minute. Houston 15-266 arrived on 10.13.15 and we've been having a blast. He's a seven week old male Golden Retriever/Labrador mix, and a very happy little guy. He loves to play with our resident Golden Retrievers and exploring the back yard is a favorite past time. As puppies do, he plays hard and crashes hard.

For such a little guy (8.8 lbs), he sure is smart! If he chews on something inappropriate, he is easily re-directed. He took quickly to crate training, and house training is coming along nicely. We're not quite all the way there, but we're so close!

Houston 15-266 was a hit at his first vet visit, where he voluntarily provided a stool sample (which came back negative). He's making up for his small stature by gobbling his Taste of the Wild large breed puppy chow and of course, the occasional dried liver treat. Houston 15-266 had his first puppy shots, first dose of de-wormer and will be neutered in a couple of weeks. After that, he'll be ready to find his forever home.

We'd like to see Houston's forever home be an active home with a physical fence, kids over ten years old, and preferable another playful dog (optional).

I have the BEST news.  A wonderful family, right here in Moorhead, asked if I would come and live with them forever.  How could I say no?  I love them so much.  I missed my foster family the first night and cried in my crate, but during the day I get to play with my new fur sister, Patsy, and snuggle with my new humans.  I just know I'm going to love it here, and the best part is, Foster Mom promised she would visit.

Foster mom here.  It is VERY quiet and I must admit, a little boring around our home without Houston.  Of course, I shed some tears letting him go, but I know how loved he is already, and he's going to have a great life.  The 'B' family are absolutely wonderful,  and I'm thrilled they chose him.

In typical RAGOM fashion, we love happy endings, and this certainly is one of them.

See you soon, Houston...now known as Stevie!

Greetings Houston fans!  I promised an update after Houston's last wellness exam, so here it is.

At five months, Houston is in perfect health.  Despite his weakness for all things food, he only weighs 25 pounds.  The vet thinks he'll be a small guy, but who really knows for sure?  The vet warned us that his booster shot would make him sleepy, so we were looking forward to a quiet evening.  Ha!  Nothing affects this boy - he was his usual silly self, making us all giggle at his antics.
He was a dream at the vet as usual, charming everyone he came in contact with (and those he didn't but would have liked to), so of course, I bought him a couple of new toys for being such a good boy.
Houston continues to make us laugh.  Last week I was getting ready to leave the house, and I heard a muffled bark. The big dogs were lounging near us, so we immediately knew Houston had gotten himself into yet another predicament.  Sure enough, after a quick search, we found him stuck under our king size bed.  This proved to be a challenge, as we ended up having to heave the entire bed on its side to free him, but he was unharmed and quite thrilled to be found.   Needless to say, he hasn't attempted to explore under the bed again since.
His new favorite thing to do is nose open the cupboards and play with our plastic containers and lids.  He'll throw them in the air, chase them around, and finally settle in for a good chewing session until we replace them with a Houston-appropriate toy.  When I say Houston-appropriate, I mean indestructible.
As so many hounds do, Houston loves to play fetch.  What surprises us though, is that we didn't have to teach him to 'drop'.  When we throw a toy for him to retrieve, he runs after it, brings it back, and drops it immediately for us to toss again.  He'll do this until he's either a) tired, or, b) one of the other dogs takes it.
Houston is very much the class clown, only snuggly!  To know him is to love him.  Without a doubt.
Stay tuned!
Houston 15-266 here - please excuse the quality of the photos that Foster Mom took.  One was after my bath, and the other one she snapped when she caught me trying to drink her soda.  Why won't she let me have Diet Dr. Pepper?  It looks so tasty!

It's been too long since my last Houston update, and for that, I apologize.  I blame it on the craziness of the holidays and fostering a puppy in general.

The best news is that we have finally been able to put our area rug back down, as he is completely potty trained.  What a relief (no pun intended) for both us and him!
As you might know, we allow our hounds on the furniture.  Our large king-size bed used to be a place for our resident Golden Retrievers to get a reprieve from playing with Houston when they needed a break.  Not so much anymore.  If he takes a running leap, he can just make it to the top of the bed and haul himself up.  Then he snuggles up in the pillows as though the bed was made just for him.  It's his new favorite spot.
Next week he'll receive his rabies shot and his booster.  It will be fun to get him weighed again to see how much he has grown.
That's all for now!  Stay tuned for future updates.

Greetings, RAGOM Land!  It's Houston 15-266 here with an update.

Foster Mom and Foster Dad tell me how happy they are that I'm doing so well with my house training.  I think that's a funny name to call it, because don't they want me be trained to do my business outside?  It should be called outside training.  But whatever they want to call it, I now know that when I have to relieve myself, I have to sit by the door.  If they don't pay attention, I give them a little bark and then they open the door for me and I run out.   I'm feeling rather proud of myself.
I had another big accomplishment this week.  In order to get outside at my foster family's house you have to go down these 4 scary things.  I think they're called stairs.  Anyway, Foster Mom doesn't have to carry me down them anymore, because I figured out how to do it all by myself!  Foster Mom said that it's about time, because I am getting awfully heavy to be carried around.  I'm glad she's so patient with me.
Outside looks different to me.  It feels different too.  I haven't decided if I like it so much. They tell me the white stuff on the ground is snow, but all that means to me is that it's cold and wet.  My foster fur-sister and brother love to play in it, but I'm just not sure yet.  I'll keep ya posted regarding my thoughts on this stuff.
My foster family is really confusing me about what is supposed to happen inside and what is supposed to happen outside. Last weekend, they brought a TREE INSIDE!  Inside the house! Then, they put it in water, but told me I couldn't drink that water.  After that, they put shiny balls all over it, but told me that I couldn't play with them.  My fur fosters seem to have it all together, so I'm trying to follow their lead.  I just don't understand how they can resist all those shiny things on a tree that's inside the house!
So as you can guess, it's awfully exhausting learning all these new things, but that's okay, because my warm, soft bed is calling.  My human foster brother is writing a letter to Santa, asking him for things he would like to get for Christmas, and since I'm such a good writer, I think I'll do the same.  All I want is a forever family to love me to pieces, (and maybe some more shiny balls to play with) so it shouldn't take long.  Yawn.  I'll get started after my nap.
Love,
Houston 15-266

Hi everyone, this is Houston 15-266.  I turned 3 months old this week, and boy oh boy, do I have a lot to tell you!
As you know, I love, love, love to play with my foster fur sister and human foster brother. My foster fur brother is getting "up there" and doesn't really like me so much.  Especially when I play with his tail.  Sometimes he barks at me, and then I know that he's really not in the mood for my antics.
I overheard FM telling FD the other day that I'm a bit stubborn.  I don't know what that means, but now, whenever she's home, she hooks my leash to her, and I have to follow her everywhere.  I THINK this means that I can't sneak off and do my business in the house anymore.  I don't see why this is a problem, but FM tells me that she likes to keep her house CLEAN, and that she doesn't like wet socks, so I guess I'll just wait and see.  She gives me a peanut butter cracker when I go potty outside, so that might be a hint of what I'm supposed to do...I'll update you more on what this all means when I get it figured out (and I will because I am SMART).  She's a strange one, FM, but I love her.  To my credit, I keep my crate CLEAN, so there, FM.
FM brought me a Nylabone yesterday, and I was so happy I ran in my crate and chewed and chewed until it was time for another outside break.  Sheesh, this lady likes to go outside A LOT!  But it's kind of fun, because there's this new thing called SNOW that I get to play in.  It's so fun!  I like to run and run and then roll all over in it.
FM tells me I have a super personality (whatever that means, but I think it's good).  My foster family is always giggling at me.  Besides playing mostly all the time, I LOVE to cuddle with my foster family when I get tired.  I know that my perfect forever family is out there, so in the meantime, I'll just keep enjoying life here.
Love, Houston 15-266

Houston might be part Labrador (that's what we're guessing, anyway), but he's a very good listener and just wants to please his humans, much like a Golden Retriever.  He responds well to "no" and "down".  We don't use his name and the word "no" in the same command, because that can be confusing when teaching other behaviors.

He sits on command like a pro, especially if a treat is involved.  He generally will come when called, but on occasion does get distracted when sniffing around in the back yard.  We're working on that as well as leash training.
We teach Houston basic manners using positive reinforcement only.  He loves to play, but when he's tired, he just wants to be cuddled.  The best news for Foster Mom is that he is now sleeping through the night.
Houston is so darn wonderful and it will be hard to see him go. We love having him while we wait for the perfect forever home.

Hi everyone, my name is Houston 15-266 and I have so much to tell you.  Foster Mom and Dad told me I need to be resting, so they said I could help with my latest update.

On Monday , FM took me to the vet, where I went to sleep and had something done they call a neuter.  It didn't hurt a bit, and when I woke up, I snuggled with a teddy bear and the vet techs until FM came to pick me up.  I was very popular there, being so small and a RAGOM dog and all.  I can't wait to go back to get my stitch out.  They snuggle me and give me treats!  Since then, my foster family has been trying hard to keep me calm, but they say that's like trying to nail Jello to the wall.  Whatever that means.  I'm feeling just fine, thank you very much, and just want to play, play, play.
The nice doctor told me some medical stuff that doesn't make much sense to me, but FM says it means that I am a very healthy little guy.  My blood work came back perfect, and I'm growing so fast!  When she got me, I weighed 8.8 lbs., but as of my last visit to the doctor, I weigh a whopping 14.8 lbs.!
I think I've finally figured out that my foster family doesn't really like it when I pee in the house, so I've been trying really hard to tell them when I need to go outside.  Besides, they give me treats and pets every time I go outside, so I figure, why not?
My favorite things to do are to play with the big dogs and my human foster brother, though that's not allowed much for the next couple of days until I'm healed from the neuter surgery.  And guess what?  I may only be 8 weeks old, but I'm learning neat tricks, like how to sit nicely for a treat and to come when I'm called.  I don't much like the leash, but if the leash means we get to go for a walk, then I guess I'll try harder during my lessons.
It's time for my morning snooze now, so I'm heading to my bed for a nap.  I do love it here, but I sure would like to find a forever family.
Until next time, Houston 15-266

What a fun week we've had with the sweet and spunky Houston 15-266!

He's such a sweet, easy puppy.  We're making great progress on house training.  He uses a pee pad when I can't catch him to get him outside in time.  We haven't had a poop accident at all - he tells us when he needs to go out by whining at the door.  He keeps his crate clean, and he generally only needs to get up once in the night for a potty break.  Obviously, we let him out more if he tells us.  Sometimes, he's so tired after a day of play, he puts himself to bed in his crate.

As I've said before, he loves, loves, loves our resident Goldens, so we really think a home with another playful dog would be best for him.
