Summer 07-688

Profile

We got Summer today, because her family was moving and couldn’t take her with.  She is a 6 and a half year old Golden.  It seems she has quite a bit of energy.  She is very affectionate and knows some commands like "sit" and "come".  She doesn't seem to mind our kids or cat, but is getting used to our two HUGE other dogs.  They can be a bit overwhelming.  On our first walk, she seemed to like to pull, but after some correction, I had her walking next to me with slack in the leash.  She retrieves quite well and loves to play.  Here is her first picture after her bath and minor grooming.  Her coat is very pretty.  Summer seems healthy and has her vet appointment scheduled for Monday.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say good-bye to our Summer dog. She had a wonderful 16th birthday on 12/31/15 and shortly afterward started limping a bit with her hind leg. A trip to the vet indicated osteosarcoma, so we started her on some bone-strengthening and pain medications. She rallied for a couple of weeks and was back to her old self! Unfortunately, lately she has hasn't wanted to eat much of anything and getting her to take her meds has become next to impossible. Today is a sad day in our household as we wish her a safe journey across the rainbow bridge. Thank you RAGOM and all who made our life with her possible.

Well, from the "P" family in her profile, Summer came to another P family. There were marital problems in the first family and they needed to find a temporary home for her. Through friends I said I would take her for awhile, which has turned into forever!! It took some getting used to our older golden. Willow always wanted to play and Summer didn't want anything to do with her. They are now tried and true friends. They tousle all the time and provide hours of entertainment. She is just a lover and will wedge her head in between your feet or wherever she can fit to get attention. She is just doing awesome and is showing signs of age with her face getting quite a bit grayer. Here are a few pictures to update her status.

They love the snow and love to play with each other.

Waiting for Santa

Hey there everybody.  This is Summer and I thought I would give all you nice people an update.  I have been with my foster family for a few days now and I am starting to settle in nicely.  I came from Aiken, MN and had to leave my family because they were moving.  So, when I first got here I was a little scared and sad too.  But, my foster family has been so nice to me.  They give me tons of love and they pet me all the time.  Sometimes when they stop petting me I nudge under their arms to let them know they should keep going.  What can I say.  I LOVE to be petted!!

My previous owner was feeding me Ol Roy, but not here with my foster parents.  I get dry dog food mixed with real chicken and veggies.  Yum Yum.  I let my foster dad give me a bath and brush me.  I even let him clip my nails, although my foster mom had to keep me occupied with treats.  I had my vet appointment today.  I got up to date on all my shots and the vet says I look great.

My foster parents have two small kids (2 and 5).  They are real nice to me.  They like to pet me and I let them.  If they get close I like to lick their faces.  There is also a cat here.  We have sniffed each other a few times, I don't mind cats.  They also have two other dogs.  A Saint Bernard named Chief, he is a pretty laid back fella.  He sleeps a lot and he doesn't care much about me, so we get along.  The other dog is a Great Dane named Sally, she is kind of a pest.  She is still young, so she constantly wants to play with me and take things from me.  When she is too rough I tell her.

I am a pretty active girl and like to run around the back yard.  (check out my action pictures)  I will also fetch balls for you.  I walk well on a leash, but could use a little more help with my pulling.  My foster dad took me to the dog park today with Chief and Sally (on leash of course).  I had a great time and got along well with the other dogs.  I didn’t live with any other dogs at my previous home, but I think I am getting used to it.

Well, that is all from me for now.  My foster mom and dad will probably send another update next week.  Unless some lucky family adopts me.  If you like to be kissed and loved up then I'm your girl.  Also, I am planning on being at the Land O Lakes dog show on Sunday January, 6th from 8-12.  I will be in the RAGOM booth with my foster dad and some other awesome RAGOM volunteers.
