Sunshine (AKA Honey) came to RAGOM just over a week ago. She is a senior gal, about 10yrs or so, who needs lots of love and a gentle hand. She came to RAGOM as a stray from the Southern Metro area. Honey is a mix breed of choc lab/some Beagle(ears)/and possible golden; and she weighs in at 50lbs.

The first few days were rough as she was in a strange home, we do not know her correct name. She comes with some medical issues which are being dealt with as I write this update. She does have some arthritis and was put on Rimadyl, that has helped her move alot easier. Honey even now wants to play ball and will pick up bones to chew on. Honey also has a large fatty tumor on her right lower abdomen to back leg area that needs to be removed. RAGOM is working on appointments for her to have that removed in the next few weeks.

We're not sure if Honey has any storm anxieties or dark anxieties. As we are always having storms with thunder and lighting, maybe this week I can finally figure this one out.

Honey has already learned not to beg at the dinner table and not to snap at fingers when hand fed food. She knows some commands like lay down. She doesn't like to sit because the tumor makes it hard for her.

Honey is a very loving dog, she puts her head in your lap or if someone is laying on the couch she will put her head on your shoulder and look at you with her big brown eyes.

Everyday we learn more about Honey. Please consider adopting her, she is a love.

ot to much to report on Sunshine (Honey), she is getting a little more spring in her step as "Spring" tries to settle in.  She loves being outside and roaming the backyard with her two resident sisters and the new addition of Neighbor 09-156.  On Thursday of last week, we took out one of the smaller swimming pools and she does enjoy drinking out of that watering hole.

But Honey still has some rough days with her joints and hip area, as this is where most of her pain is.  But she still has her happy moments when I come home from work or running an errand.  Honey is really a very good dog, she enjoys evenings where she can put her head in my lap and get lots of pets and scratches.  But there are areas that you just don't touch, as they must hurt.  She even gets mad at me when I touch one of these spots by accident.

The perfect home for Sunshine (Honey) would be a fenced yard, no stairs or very few stairs, no young children, older young adults possible, someone who is home or not gone more than 8 hours a day, and someone with lots of patience.  If you think you have the perfect home and love for Sunshine, please contact your placement coordinator.

It's been awhile since our last update on Honey, but time flies by with the holidays and with almost every weekend at a Ragom event of some sort.  And then always trying to keep the house clean with four of us furr-butts in the house.  But Honey is doing very well, she has lost 4 lbs, as the vet said that she was getting a little too roundish looking.  Honey just loves her vegetables and anything else that she can get into her bowl or mouth, she loves her food.

The picture that is attached to this update... she loves her bones and some of the toys in this house.  She does not like the stuff toys and the noise that they make.  The younger crowd of dogs in this house just love the noisy squeak toys, but Honey thinks that they are a waste of time.  Santa bought her a new bed and she just loves it, but then again she loves anything on the floor that may look like a bed for her.

My FM has a day off from work to spend some more quality time with us, but she says that she has some chores to do.  We are her chores, what does FM not understand.  Well mom says that it's time to get moving again, so till we update again.

Honey (Sunshine) and FM

Honey in her Christmas look - such a cutie!

Monday, September 22, 2008

I realize that its been sometime since my FM sent an update on me, but we took in a new younger pup and she has been sick.  Now I, Honey/Sunshine, on the other hand am doing great.  I've had a few potty accidents in the house, mostly in the middle of the night.  I do not like waking my FM and telling her that I have to go potty.  Even though she gets up very willingly, without a word said.  I just do not like going up and downstairs (3 stairs).  My FM says that I'm lazy, I'm not telling my reason why.  FM cannot wait till the colder air sets in and then the snow.  The situation may get worse!

I'm still on two pain meds 2 - 3 times a day.  They seem to help, but I still do not like going outside!  I'm very good during the day when no one is home and have free roam of the house, except the bathroom.  But the bathroom is another story, so here goes.
Last week FM came home and there was a huge mess in the bathroom with the toilet paper.  I have free roam along with resident Missy, and the new pup is in a crate.  FM was not sure who shredded all the toilet paper rolls, and the reason why.  Boy did I make a mess.  FM was telling us that at the price of toilet paper, that was like shredding gold.  Well, FM was not sure who the guiltly party was, so she picked the mess up and let it go.  But she would watch us to see who goes into the bathroom without her.  Well one night after we all went to bed and we were sleeping, FM heard some noise in the bathroom about 12:30am.  As my resident sister was in bed with FM and the new pup was tethered to the bed, I guess that leaves only me, Honey.  I was shredding the remaining rolls of toilet paper.  Was FM surprised to see me in the bathroom being naughty.  Oh well, it happens to the best of us; so now the bathroom door is shut during the day and at night.  There goes my fun!
My new foster sister is nice to have around, but leaves a lot of potty messes around and my resident sister is a play, play queen.  But me, I just like to hang on my FM and follow her wherever she goes.  FM told me that on Saturday we were going to a picnic, with lots of dogs and humans and I may enjoy that.  I guess we will see.  Take care for now and enjoy my new pictures!

On Sunday, August 10, Honey got to meet her sponsor Susannah Charleson as she was in town for business. It was a very beautiful sun-shiny day that Honey and Susannah got to meet for the first time. We met at the MAC dog park by the airport and with all the loud noises that the planes made nothing startled Honey. Honey and Susannah became the best of friends. She truly is a trooper, and enjoys human touch, lots of love and, of course, food.

Last weekend we took in Peaches from boarding till Sunday, when her foster mother would be back in town. Honey accepts all and any dogs into our home, she never growls or anything. Peaches even took over one of Honey’s beds and she let her use it all weekend. What a sweetie!

Could Honey/Sunshine possibly fit in your home??

Last Monday we had all of Honey's stitches removed and she is doing fabulous. She feels so much better everyday. As we waited at the vet on Monday, she was sitting by my feet with both back legs in the same position that dogs use to sit. The vet was so proud of her when she saw her.

Honey has even started to play with more of the toys that are in her foster home. As you can see in the  pictures below, she is so ready for her forever home. As I have said before she is very much low maintenance. Stop and think about a wonderful home for her. If you would like to adopt Honey, please contact placementatragom [dot] org

Sorry it has taken so long to get a update on Sunshine/Honey, since her fatty tumor was removed. Honey has been one excellent trooper, she acts like she never had surgery. Before surgery she liked to lay/sleep on any thick bedding for comfort, but since her surgery she does not care where she sleeps, the living room floor, kitchen floor, or bedroom floor.

With her surgery on Tuesday, June 24 her large fatty tumor was removed, weighing in at 3lbs. The vet (Dr R., thank you so very much) also removed some fatty skin tags on her right elbow, on both of her eye lids (top and bottom lids). She has stitches on the right side of her little face, where she had two areas where skin tags were removed and 2 or 3 tags on her upper eye lid, And both sites also have stitches. Plus her main incision site is about 7-8 inches long. It starts on her lower right abdomen over to her right inside knee area.

Honey can now sit like a normal dog without the complications of a large mass in her way. She also can go up and down stairs without too much of an effort. Which is great to see. Honey actually seems to have more energy now, than she ever did before.

She is definitely are on the road to recovery. Honey goes back in to the vet on Monday for a one week follow up appointment. Then back in one more week to have stitches removed.

Honey is still going to be a low maintenance friend once she heals from her surgery. Is there a family or individual who would love to have her, to enjoy her senior years together??

Thank you everyone for your prayers, they are working!

Love, FM, Missy (resident) and Tama 07-634

It was decided over the weekend that Honey (Sunshine) would have surgery this morning, June 24, to remove the large fatty tumor on her right side. It was also decided to remove some of the skin tags that she also has on her left eye lids (both top and bottom). As I'm typing this I keep wondering how is she doing and what have they found and done so far. As the FM you love them all no matter how old, young, naughty or nice, not perfect or perfect; you keep on loving and worrying about them all. More to come later on her surgery, once she is out.

Honey has become a very loving and affectionate dog, she enjoys her pets and kisses. She is a very low maintenance dog, as long as she has a soft bed to sleep on all the time; and you feed her in a timely manner. Sometimes she will even dance around as if she were a puppy (this is something you need to see to understand). She has free roam of my home ever since she came here, and she does not potty in the house. Honey is just a love, so would someone like to give this senior gal a wonderful loving home and family to love forever?!

Also last weekend we dog-sat Shunka 08-263 from Thursday to Sunday and then on Friday I received a new foster (who's not yet on the web site, soon), along with my resident dog and Honey; plus two extra young adults. So we had a wonderful time and thank goodness for the wonderful weather, it sure helps. Shunka being the gentlemen that he is, was making all the rounds seeing if the women would like to do a dance or two with him. But he had no takers. What a wonderful gentlemen Shunka is.

More to come in the next few days as we find out more about Honey and her surgery and what they may have also found. Please say some prayers, she needs all the help she can get. Love FM, Shunka, Tama and Missy my resident.
