Meet Suzie. Suzie is approximately 1 year old - our vet said anywhere from 7 to 14 months. She came to us about a week ago from northern Minnesota where she wandered onto a Good Samaritan's property and would not leave. He contacted RAGOM and let her sleep in his heated shop until she could be transported to us. When she first got here, she was very skittish but has settled in very nicely. Suzie is definitely a puppy still and is very high-energy, trying to get our resident Golden, Lacey, to play while Lacey would rather just lay on the couch. She has been a very good house guest as we have had no accidents and no indication that she will chew on inappropriate items, which is always a plus in young dogs. She sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom and spends time when we are away with our other dogs baby gated in our bedroom and hallway. She gets along with both our Golden and our little dog. Well, unknown about cats or young kids, and she gets a little mouthy when excited so we are not sure she is appropriate for families with young children, though children over ten should be OK. Suzie is what could be called a Velcro dog as she likes to follow her people around and even will push open the bathroom door if it's not shut tight.

Suzie went to the vet on Friday and got her shots and a clean bill of health. She weighed in at a petite 38 pounds, with a suggested optimum weight about 7-10 pounds heavier. Other than needing to put on a few pounds, she was in good health. She will be spayed 3/5/13 and would be available for adoption shortly after that.

What Suzie will need in an adoptive home:

  • Physical fence - Since she was a stray, she is at a danger to wander away.
  • She enjoys other dogs but doesn't require one in her new home.
  • Most likely would be OK at home for a workday as long as she gets plenty of exercise.
  • Obedience training to make her the best dog she can be and to stimulate her mind.
