Please help us welcome this beautiful girl back to RAGOM! Sydney was originally surrendered to RAGOM in September 2011, after her owners realized they could no longer spend time with her as she deserved. At that time it was noted she was nervous around young children. A few weeks later, she was adopted out to a family that loved her very much. They informed their neighbors she was uncomfortable around young children; however, one day their young neighbor was outside unattended. Sydney went to greet him by the fence. The young boy stuck his hand thru the fence -- unattended remember -- and Sydney, who is already uncomfortable around young children, attempted to take the food the child had in his hand. Unfortunately Sydney attempted to take the food harder than she should have and the young boy required sutures to his hand. She was returned to RAGOM and has spent the last 2 months in boarding, waiting for an adult only foster home to open up. We welcomed her into our home this past Friday and we are totally head over heels in love with this girl!!

Sydney is a beautiful purebred Golden Retriever who will turn 5 years old on June 27th. I'm sure she would LOVE a spring icon to help her celebrate! :) Sydney has been an absolute joy to have around. She enjoys the company of our Goldens - 2 males ages 4 and 6, and foster Betty, who's almost 2. She loves being around her humans and has bonded with Foster Dad very quickly. When he's home she follows him everywhere he goes and never lets him out of her sight. She is very affectionate and loves, loves, LOVES to give kisses! She loves to be brushed and LOVES car rides! She is a true Golden Retriever as she loves a good game of fetch. She brings it back to you right away and drops it at your feet, anxiously awaiting another throw. She also likes to lounge in the kiddie pool when it's warm outside. Sydney loves going for walks and walks great on a Gentle Leader. Although she would probably love to sleep on our bed at night, she sleeps contently on a dog bed and sleeps soundly throughout the night. She can blame her foster brothers for hogging all the room on the human bed! She's completely potty trained and has free roam when we're gone. We haven't had an opportunity to test her with cats, but her previous foster home reports that she ignored them.

Sydney, like a lot of purebred Goldens, suffers from allergies. It's very important that she continue on her grain free food to help with this. She also suffers from seasonal allergies and is on benedryl during the spring and summer months. We are working on taking treats gently as she can be a little grabby, and she is already catching on very quickly. She knows all the basic commands - sit, down, stay, come - and really wants to please her humans. She lets us know when someones at the door by getting very excited and barking. We are also working on this behavior - hopefully we can also get her foster brothers on board and they can learn a thing or two, too! Overall she is a very calm dog who loves being by her humans. When we go to the fence line to talk to the neighbors, she lays down nicely next to us without a peep.

Sydney knows her past can be a bit scary to some people, but trust us when we say she is an absolute dream to foster! We know there is a special family out there who will see Sydney for the beautiful, amazing girl that she is. She will need an adult only forever home with limited contact with children. As with all dogs and children, she should have constant adult supervision if she is around them. Should Sydney be adopted to a home in the suburbs, we are recommending a physical fence due to her history. If you live out in the country with a lot of land for her to run and play, where you are not close to your neighbors, then a fence would not be necessary. Sydney would be fine in a home with or without another dog, and is looking for someone who wants to be her best friend. As mentioned, she loves her humans!

Sydney will be out greeting her fans this weekend at Pride. We plan to be there from 10-12 on Sunday the 24th - please come out and see this beautiful girl, and wish her Happy Birthday! She is catching up on her beauty sleep so she can be ready for her big debut!

Sydney had a big week! First we want to send a special thank you to Dave Daily for decorating her page with a Spring icon. She got a HUGE smile on her face when we told her how special she was! Thanks so much, Dave!

Sydney also turned 5 years old and celebrated as every Golden should - with some frosty paws! She was so excited about her special treat that she gulped it down in about 3 bites. :) She celebrated the rest of her day by spending some time in her pool and really enjoyed being queen for the day.

Later in the week Sydney had some very special people come to visit her. They saw her for the wonderful girl she is and fell head over heels in love with her. In no time at all it was easy to see she felt the same way about them! They recently lost their Golden to cancer and Sydney is already helping to heal the hurt in their hearts. Both her parents are retired and her new dad is so excited to have a velcro dog. They are planning to buy her a pool, which we know she's excited about! They're committed to giving her a wonderful life and we couldn't be more thrilled for all of them!! We also want to send a special thank you to the folks at RAGOM who believed in her and saw in her what we saw from the first day she entered our house - an amazing, sweet girl, who deserved a chance at a wonderful life. Thank you, RAGOM, and thank you Jerry and Nancy for giving Sydney such a wonderful forever home!

Sydney had a BLAST at Pride and she sends a great big THANK YOU to everyone that came by to say hello! Everyone thought she was absolutely beautiful and she gave out lots and lots of kisses! She even gave a few to FD later that night when we got home. :)

There were plenty of kids that stopped by the Pride booth to say hi to the dogs, and Sydney did just fine. She let her foster brother and RAGOM Alum Bauer soak up all the pets from the kids while all the parents loved her up real good. So while she is looking for a child free home with limited interactions with kids, she did just fine with supervision and made us very proud! Just look at this great big smile on her face – our beautiful girl had a wonderful time!

We are getting to know more about Sydney with each passing day. She listens very well when we call her name and has excellent recall. This doesn’t surprise us as she loves her people and always wants to be where we are. She knows how to shake and is learning to take treats gently. She tends to get pretty excited about food and just can’t wait to get the treat from our hand. She’s learning a little bit of patience and doesn’t grab for treats nearly as much as she did a week ago. She’s a quick learner! She’s a pretty alert little girl and there are some noises that bother her, like a loud truck going down the street. When she hears the garbage truck for instance, she’ll stand up and let out a bark or two. She has also started to let us know when “danger” is approaching when we’re outside. If she sees someone outside the fence that she thinks we need to know about, she’ll start to bark. However, she has responded well when we call her over to us. Remember – she’s food motivated, so we are using this to our advantage here. If she starts to bark, we’ll say “Sydney quiet”. Then when she looks at us we’ll tell her to come, and she typically trots over right away. She gets a treat when she quiets down and comes to us, so this is something she’s picking up quickly!

We spend a lot of time outside in the summer, and Sydney has had no complaints! She loves chewing on bones and of course loves to play fetch! She can typically be found lounging at our feet and just relaxing. She is a lot like her foster brother Cooper, who’s a calm guy that loves to hang out by his humans when he’s not chasing the ball around the yard. If Sydney was a year older, I would swear they were from the same litter!

Speaking of birthdays….don’t forget this beautiful girl will turn 5 years old on Wednesday! I think I know what she wants for her birthday, do you?!
