Trick or Treat. That's what Tanner, a handsome, medium sized, blond hunk who happens to be a 5 year old purebred Golden, should be saying today. This guy probably thinks he came to my house for a Halloween party. Instead Tanner will soon be wondering if he has been tricked or is this a treat as he will be spending the holidays with me and my two labs. After next Monday, I have no doubt he will think he's been tricked and there is no treat good enough to make up for the this.

Here's his story. Tanner was found as a stray in a small town in Iowa. This town does not have any animal control, so Tanner caught a ride in a squad car with a wonderful police officer who brought him to a vet clinic that holds strays for 7 days. Lucky for Tanner, he was able to stay a bit longer before his time was up.... and he did not have to find out what it means when "your time is up". Even luckier RAGOM was contacted and Tanner was transported to a boarding facility in South Dakota. As is part of the routine medical care Tanner received as a RAGOM dog, blood tests that check for illness and parasites were done. Here's where life tricks sweet boy Tanner....his heart worm test came back positive. Yes, Tanner has heart worm. X-rays confirmed the diagnosis and Tanner was on a transport to Minneapolis the next day. Thanks to Kathy and Rona for the quick transport and medical care as well as all the other volunteers and supporters who make it possible for dogs like Tanner to receive the care he so urgently needs and deserves.

Tanner has an appointment on Monday morning for the first of three painful injections. If all goes well, he will come home with me on Monday night. He will have pain meds and will need to be kept very quiet, leashed or crated 24/7. He will need to be quiet for one month and will then receive two more injections, followed by another month of rest. More blood tests will be done after that and the rest of Tanner's care will be determined. He does need to be neutered, but it will have to wait until after his heart worm treatment is complete. Please keep this sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers. This is a painful treatment and is hard on the dogs, not without complications. His medical care will be expensive, so if anyone is thinking of sponsoring a dog or making a donation to RAGOM, please consider making it on behalf of sweet Tanner. Mr Tanner will not be available for adoption until he has completed his treatment. I will update his page often, and will let everyone know how his first treatment goes. Fingers and paws crossed for Tanner.

Here are a couple of photos from his first afternoon with his foster brother and sister....they all get along great. He's enjoying his freedom now as soon it will be leashed time only. A reminder from Tanner, please don't forget to "treat" your animals with their heart worm preventive....he sure wishes someone had given him his.

From Tanner's forever family...

Tanner is doing great. He’s very comfortable here and is more relaxed as time passes. We are going to the cabin for a week and hope the weather cooperates so he’ll have a chance for a swim. It’s been cool and rainy most weekends we’ve been up there so he hasn’t jumped in yet. He wears a gentle leader and enjoys his nightly walks. He really loves riding in the truck with Dan and going with him to job sites.

Here’s a few pictures of Tanner at the lake. He has a great time looking for muskrats and chipmunks. Still hasn’t ventured into the water – but neither have we!

To Tanner's foster mom... Hope all is well with you and your pups. Keep up the good work fostering – we all appreciate it so much.

Here are a couple of photos of Tanner from his new family. Tanner is doing well at his new home, settling in fine with his new sister Sunshine (Sunny) and enjoys watching the Twins with his dad.....guess he fell asleep during the game.

Hey everyone, it's me Tanner and I have fantastic news!! Guess what.....I'm officially adopted.....yup, that's right I have a forever mom and dad as well as a forever dog sister!! How cool is this.....my new dad works from home so I won't have to stay home alone much at all and my new mom and dad will let me sleep in the bed with them and I can sleep on the couch.....just like at my foster home. There is even a new dog bed waiting for me. My new sister is a Golden Retriever German Shepherd mix and she is 13 years old....but she still chases rabbits and squirrels....I don't think she looks 13 and she sure didn't act like it when we met. I have a big house with a fenced yard and a cabin up north that we get to go to in the summer. My dad will take me swimming and he and my new mom will send foster mom some photos plus I can come over anytime to play with Rocco and Jimmie.

I'm going to miss my foster brother and foster sister as well as the little pups. Rocco was so good to me and really taught me how to have fun and that people are nice, good and kind. Jimmie was kind of bossy but she was nice to me most of the time and played good when she wanted to. I really liked hanging out with the little pups and watching them grow, they were fun to play with and foster mom said I was very good with them. I will miss foster mom a ton. She took really good care of me when I was sick and was very nice to me....even when I lifted my leg on the couch and tried to eat her shoes and slippers....she never got angry with me just said we had stuff to work on. She made me feel safe and secure so I could trust people and find my forever family.

I guess I would have to say I am the luckiest dog in the world. First RAGOM took me in and then foster mom let me live with her for 6 months. I want to thank the wonderful people who helped pay for my medical care and the friends who helped care for me during my heartworm treatment plus the doctors and people at the doctors office that took care of me. Thank you everyone for taking care of me and for helping all the dogs so we can all live the GReat life we deserve.

Check out the photo of me with my new mom and dad....watch for an update from my family with a photo of me and my sister dog. Well, got to go and pack my stuff and play with Rocco one last time....sure will miss that guy.

Hi Tanner fans, Tanner is resting after his neuter and doing fine. He's eating and drinking and all bodily functions are working. He slept well last night and other than a few licks to his incision this morning he's been good at leaving it alone. I'll keep an eye on him for more licking.....if he continues he will be sporting the dreaded cone of shame. He does have pain meds for three days and will have to be leashed outside for 2 weeks....no free running. Tanner continues to be a very sweet boy and is a good patient. He is very happy to be home and resting on the couch or on his dog bed under the dining room table.

Thanks for following his journey, he's one step closer to his forever home....could that be with you? Contact placement if Tanner sounds like the one for you.

Friday, April 8, 2011

Hi folks, it's me Tanner and I have great news!! I've had a busy couple of days as not only did I meet my forever mom two days ago but yesterday, I got to meet my forever dog brother and sisters. Yes, I said sisters, I have two dog sisters and one dog brother!! How cool is that....they are older than me but one or two still play so it will work for me. I will also share my new home with 4 cats...I've not met them yet but since I got along fine with the two I met earlier in the week, foster mom and my new mom said it should be ok.

I loved my new mom as soon as I met her, she's very kind and gentle and understands animals and humans really well. She's adopted dogs from Ragom, my siblings are from there, so she knows about dogs with "issues" and has seen much worse than me. Issues....I didn't know I had issues... I guess they were talking about me not liking to be left alone and being afraid of loud voices and some noises. Foster mom said my new mom is the perfect home for me as she can help me continue to grow and will help me cause I will miss foster mom, Rocco and Jimmie. Well, I've been here since before Halloween....that's a long time for a dog and foster mom and Rocco and even Jimmie have been very good to me. They taught me people and other dogs are nice and it's good to live in the house, and oh...don't lift your leg inside the house and a bunch of other stuff. My new mom does not care that I don't sit before getting a treat and she will let me sleep on the furniture and in the bed if I want. She's going to visit me a few more times before I go to live with her so I'll fill you in more. Right now I'm going to play with Rocco, Hank and Jimmie. It's nice to play outside now that the yard is not all mud.....foster mom said something about wiping 16 dog paws.

Talk to you all later, your pal Tanner.

PS....I have my big test on Monday, think good thoughts for me to pass my test....anyone know how to study for a blood test???

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Hi Tanner fans, it's me Tanner taking a break from playing with Rocco, Jimmie and Hank to give you some good news. Are you ready.....I passed my cat test!! Yup, met two cats, no big deal.....I sniffed them a little they looked at me and well that was it. Don't know what foster mom was so worried about....they're cats and I know about cats.

So now for the 2nd part of my good news, because I get along with cats, I get to meet a lady who wants me to be part of her family. She has three Golden's and 4 cats...all are older so I would be the young guy but that's cool with me. I'm meeting her this week and foster mom is pretty happy for me as she says this is the perfect home for me. The lady works from home so she's home more than not, has 3 dogs for me to hang with.....they are girl dogs.....so you all know how much I like the girls.....and she takes walks and goes to the dog park. Plus she knows a ton about dogs and has had several puppy mill dogs. Foster mom says if it works out for me, it will be like winning the lottery. Can you win the lottery twice.....cause I think I already won the lottery when RAGOM took me in.....just sayin....

Well got to go play with Hank....he's here for another week or so and we get to play with him a ton. I'm really good with him, even let him sleep in the bed with me this morning.....he curled up next to me and I did not move.....just let him sleep......he was tired because his sister Bailey (was Rona) was here all day yesterday for a play date....wow, she wore everyone out. They are both very lucky pups thanks to RAGOM too.

I'll let you know how my visit with my new friend goes.....maybe she will be my forever mom....paws crossed for all of us.

Your pal,
Tanner

Hi, it's me Tanner stopping by to say a hearty thank you to my wonderful friend who gave me a Spring token in memory of Athena and Zera. I have a feeling I would have liked Athena and Zera....they have great names. Thank you so much for helping RAGOM so they can make sure I get healthy and can find my Golden forever home. I go to the doctor on the 11th of April for my heartworm test so paws and fingers crossed for me to test negative for heartworm. In the meantime I am enjoying my stay at my foster home....not sure why all the humans complain about the snow.....I love it.

Thanks for following my journey,

Hi Tanner fans, it's me Tanner sending in my own update again as foster mom is still busy with the pups. Things here at my foster home are going really well, we are still getting lots of visitors so I am getting lots of attention which I love. I also love playing with the puppies....I'm very good with them and even though I'm 5 or 6 times bigger than them, I don't hurt them when I play with them. I still don't like it when they pull on my tail but most of them know not to do that....if they forget I give them a little growl so they remember......foster mom says it's ok as they have to learn that they can't play with everyone like they play with their siblings. I still help foster mom take care of them, run upstairs really fast if I hear them cry.....need to make sure they are not hurting each other. I also bark at them if they get really out of control.....try to tell them to settle down as I don't want them to get in trouble.

Tanner and Hank

I'm getting ready to take my big test in April and hope that I pass my heartworm test. Not that I want to have surgery....Hank 11-020 just had his surgery yesterday and he said it was no big deal so I guess I'll be fine and just want to get that part done and behind me. Foster mom says she will start looking for my forever home soon so I thought I should remind everyone of what I want and need at my forever home.

  • Another dog or two for me to live with.....I am most comfortable when I have another dog to learn from and hang out with.
  • Someone who is home more than not.....I don't like to stay alone for the full work day.....4 hours at a time is good for me.
  • A yard with a fence would be nice but not a deal breaker as long as I could get some off leash time somewhere and as long as someone will walk me every day....I need and want exercise.
  • Cats are still unknown....foster mom says she will "cat test" me in a few weeks and then we will know for sure if I can live with cats.

Well, got to go and check on the pups....they are making a bunch of noise and I need to make sure they are not getting in trouble.

Hey everyone it's me Tanner.....bet you've all been wondering what I've been up to. Well, let's just say that I've been up to my ears in puppies and new friends. The puppies are now 10.5 weeks old and there are 5 of them. Three of the boys went to the Rainbow Bridge because they got so sick with Parvo from the yucky place they lived at but the rest are getting bigger and stronger each day. I help a lot with the pups....I watch them eat, sometimes I help clean their dish before they get it....yummy snack, but most time I just watch them and play with them a bit when they get to run around on the floor with us big guys. I'm pretty careful with them so I don't hurt them but don't like it if they pull my tail and will give them a little growl....foster mom watches them very closely so they don't get a chance to pull on me since she knows I don't like that.....well who does....they also try to bite my ears and feet but I just move away so they can't do it.

Speaking of eating, I also ate a puppy toy.....pulled the squeaker and stuffing out and when foster mom took it away from me I ate the fabric outer part. Now she's been following me around the back yard when I do my business looking for the toy....so far no toy....doc says it probably dissolved as it was only the fabric....I'm not telling but for a guy who did not like toys now I eat them!!

Now for my new friends, wow, I have tons of new human friends. Many people come over to help with the puppies....they need lots of extra care since they have been so sick and well I guess some people just like puppies, so we've had tons of company. One day I counted 10 people at our house for a total of 14 hours, most days it's 3 or 4 and almost all of them take us big dogs outside to play and sometimes people come over just to take us big dogs for walks....boy do we love that!! Some of our new friends and old friends have brought us treats and toys and bones...thanks to all of our friends for thinking of us big dogs. Foster mom says I'm getting tons of socialization and am very good with everyone so this is good for me. Everyone says how nice I am and how well behaved I am.

Rumor has it that I have to take a big test in about 5 weeks....and if I pass I can get "fixed"...old joke, but I didn't know I was broken....ha ha ha. Well. got to go, the pups are making a ton of noise and I have to see what that's all about.

Hey everyone, it's me Tanner writing you from my foster home. I am writing my own update again as foster mom is way too busy to do it. I've sure had a busy week, boy my life is not boring now. Last weekend I stayed at my friend's Jan, Mike, Bree and Mick's house. Foster mom had to go to Fargo to help with a big rescue of about 90 dogs from a puppy mill. She was supposed to be gone all day Saturday but planned ahead as she said she would have a lot to do when she got home.

I had a great time with my friends and got to meet another new friend who picked me up at Bree's house and brought me back to my foster home. I was so happy to see foster mom but I was kind of distracted by what I found when I got home. Remember how foster mom said my puppy making days were over, well there are 8 little puppies at my house. They are only 4 or 5 weeks old and make a lot of messes for foster mom to clean up. We have had lots of people stop by to drop off stuff....I found a couple of toys I liked and some people help with taking care of the puppies, some even take me, Rocco and Jimmie for walks. I get along with everyone. Foster mom has to give some of the pups shots and medications and feeds them a lot. We get up at night to help foster mom feed the pups and watch her take care of them. She says when they get big and healthy they can play with us. So far I've only looked at them but I like them, even if they make the house stinky.

Here's a picture of them. Have to go, the pups are making noise so I have to check on them.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Hey everyone, it's me Tanner and boy am I a happy guy these days. Can you guess why? It's because I am free from my exercise restrictions!! Yup, that's right, I've completed my heartworm treatment and now I get to start living a normal life. Foster mom is still not letting me sprint around the back yard as I'm supposed to gradually return to normal exercise so I still go outside on a leash but she does let me run around a bit and I can wrestle with Rocco and Jimmie. I also get to go in the car and can stay home without a dog sitter to keep an eye on me. Now I don't have to hear foster mom say "Tanner calm down", "Tanner slow down", "Tanner don't get so excited" 20 times a day. Now I can go potty without her watching me go....thank goodness for some privacy.

Tanner playing

Tanner enjoying freedom

To celebrate I got to go to see Dr G and get weighed....I've gained a much needed 4 pounds, and I got my nails trimmed. Dr G was really happy to see how great I look....said my coat looks really fluffy and healthy and my weight looks good now....I can even gain another 2 or 3 pounds. I was a very good boy about getting my nails trimmed so I got a treat for that. I also got to go to the butcher shop for some beef bones....boy do I love to chew on those. Rocco and Jimmie each got a beef bone too so they are happy too. We all share our beef bones and treats and no one has any issues with resource guarding.

I'm so happy to be feeling better and so thankful to RAGOM for taking me in and making sure I got the medical care I need. Foster mom said I still have to get "fixed" so I can't make any more puppies but she said that will be a breeze compared to what I've gone through in the past two and half months. Guess I have to pass some kind of test before my surgery and that's not for a couple of months so for now I'll just hang out with Rocco, Jimmie and foster mom and study for my test.

Got to go, my beef bone is calling me to chew, so I'll catch up with you all later. Thanks to everyone for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers and a special thank you to my sponsors, Dennis and Joanne McCarl....you guys are the best. Woof, Woof.

Foster mom here: It is great to see Tanner feeling so good and to be able to allow him to play and run a bit. I am very relieved to have this part of his care behind him and look forward to April when he can be tested for heartworm and can then be neutered. He is a great dog, very sweet in fact one of his nicknames is "Mr Sweetness", he's also known as "The Tan Man", "Dan Tanner" and "Tanny Boy".....lots of nicknames for this guy.

I did find out that he will not be a hunting dog....my neighbor is having their roof replaced and Tanner was very afraid of the nail gun noise coming from the roofers. He's not a big barker, so seeing guys on the roof was not a problem, just the noise bothers him. I'm guessing he would be gun shy and would run for the hills if he heard gun fire.

We can now start taking daily walks so I will do some leash training and will work with him on sit and stay. He's very smart and food motivated so this should go well. I'll also start working on his separation anxiety now that he can stay home without a human to keep him quiet. I'm guessing he will never be a big fan of a crate but so far he's not been destructive so he probably will not need one. I'm thinking he will do best in a home where he will not have to stay alone for an entire work day.....he so loves human companionship as well as his animal companions. He rides very well in the car and loves to run errands...no problem staying in the car while I ran into the butcher shop and post office.

Thank you to his sponsors and everyone who has followed his story and for all your well wishes and healing thoughts. We'll be attending some of the RAGOM education events in the next few weeks...watch his page for those dates so you can meet this sweet boy.

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Hello everyone in RAGOMLAND, it's your pal Tanner checking in. Boy oh boy, did I have a great Christmas or what!! Let me tell you, I have so many friends to thank for all my gifts you would think it is November 25th not December 29th. First I want to thank Dennis and Joanne McCarl for sponsoring me....wow, you guys rock, I sure hope I get to meet you sometime so I can give you a lick or two. It is because of people like you that RAGOM is able to afford to help dogs like me....we all know my heartworm treatment is expensive and your sponsorship will help to pay my medical bills so RAGOM can continue to help more dogs so they can live the Golden life. THANK YOU for sponsoring me.

Secondly, I want to thank my brand new friends Mike, Jan, Bree and Mick for letting me stay at their beautiful house while my foster mom took care of a friend's 6 dogs and 3 cats. I could not go with foster mom as there were too many dogs and cats for me to be able to stay quiet so foster mom asked if someone had a quiet house where I could hang out for 3 days.....lucky for me Jan and Mike said, sure come on over. I had a very nice time, they took really good care of me and kept me quiet....never left me home alone the entire time. I loved hanging out with Bree and Mick and I think Bree likes me. She grew up in a puppy mill so we had some things in common and bonded right away which was nice since neither Rocco or Jimmie came with me....everyone stayed at different houses. I hope I get to see Bree again, maybe after I am off my exercise restriction so we can run and play together. Thank you Mike, Jan, Bree and Mick for letting me stay with you.

Thirdly, I want to thank my three legged friend, Try 10-228. He gave me a really big bag of dog food that he got at one of the RAGOM education events. I've not met Try yet, but his foster mom and my foster mom are good friends so he's my friend too. His foster mom is Mari and she is really nice to me and has stayed with me a few times when my foster mom had to be away from home for a few hours. My foster mom and Rocco have both met Try and they say he is really a nice guy, very sweet and so smart and so handsome. He's been looking for his forever home for a while now and I'm hoping he will find his forever home soon. Try also asked Santa for a sponsor for me and it worked. I didn't get to meet Santa so I could not ask him for a forever home for Try but I will remember to ask the big guy when I say my prayers before bedtime. Thank you Try and Mari for the food and for asking Santa for a sponsor for me and for taking care of me for foster mom.

I also want to thank my foster brother Rocco and foster sister Jimmie for the holiday icon that they gave me in honor of their brother Lwood. I've heard lots about Lwood who went to the Bridge in May and it sounds like he was a really great dog. Foster mom says she fosters us dogs now to honor Lwood as he was a rescue dog too and so this is called paying it foward cause Lwood gave so much to everyone he met. How cool is this!! I also want to thank foster mom and Santa for all the great Christmas presents. I got bones from the butcher shop, two rope toys to chew on, a Nylabone, a brand new collar (still had the tag on it), and more yummy treats. I also got to eat some steak and vegs on Christmas eve, boy how much luckier can a guy get. I think I am living the Golden life now. Foster mom wants to say some stuff so I guess I have to go now...but hey everyone, have a Happy New Year, I know I will. Only 12 more days of exercise restriction, still marking off the days. Your pal, Tanner.

Foster mom here: Looks like Tanner covered everything with his thank yous but I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Tanner's friends. Dennis and Joanne McCarl, thank you for sponsoring this guy, you are why RAGOM is able to continue to help dogs like Tanner. Jan & Mike, Bree and Mick, thank you for opening up your home and hearts to Tanner so I could help out a friend who fosters for Red Lake Rosies. It was so nice to know that Tanner was in good hands and I know he enjoyed his time at your house. Mari and Try, thank you for all your help with Tanner, you have helped both Tanner and me in so many ways, I can't even begin to list all you have done. And to my resident dogs, Rocco and Jimmie, thank you for giving up your daily walks and stuffed toys so we can keep Tanner quiet and get him through his heartworm treatment. I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year and that 2011 brings you all the best life has to offer.

Hi everyone, it's me Tanner. I'm feeling pretty good today and wanted to take a few minutes to wish everyone in RAGOM land a Merry Christmas from me and my foster family.....that's me, Jimmie, Rocco and foster mom. I am being a good boy as I am waiting for Santa to do whatever it is he does....heard something about presents and treats. Foster mom is still making all kinds of treats....most are for us dogs and our dog friends....boy I sure do like sweet potatoes and the crunchy treats she makes are really good. We only get a few each day but I sure wish she would give us more. I watch and wait really close to foster mom when she's making the treats.....hoping something falls on the floor but I do not try to take anything off the counter or table....foster mom says that's a good boy. I really like it when she calls me a good boy....makes my tail wag a lot.

Tanner

Jimmie

Foster mom says I have too much energy as I want to play but she tells me that I need to stay calm and quiet. Looked at the calendar and I have 21 more days to be calm and quiet.....still crossing the days off. I want to thank Mari and Elaine for coming over and staying with me when foster mom had to go to the store for food for all of us. I don't like it when foster mom leaves me home so they sat with me so I would be calm and quiet. Foster mom says I have some separation anxiety. All I know is I like people and I want to be with them and do what they do....never had that before so I'm making up for it now. Foster mom says we will need to work on this once I am off my exercise restriction. I say what ever.....just take me with. Maybe my friend Elaine will help me with this. She helps me relax with stuff that smells good and puts her hands on me to make me stronger and healthier. She is nice to me but sometimes I don't understand what she is doing but I let her do it as I always feel better when she is done. Foster mom says something about it takes a village to take care of us special pups....she calls every dog a pup even if they are old. I'm not sure what that means but I'm glad she has good friends who like and help us pups.

Well, it's almost dinner time so got to go and remind foster mom.....I like dinner and breakfast and now clean my dish at every meal....foster mom says that's a good boy and I wag my tail. Merry Christmas everyone and thank you to everyone who helps RAGOM so they can help us dogs.

Hi everyone, it's me Tanner. Foster mom says since I complained so much in my last update that I should do my own update this time as well. Since it's close to Thanksgiving, I thought I would let everyone know what I am thankful for. Actually foster mom said that's what I have to write about, so here it goes.

First is snow. I love snow, I love to roll in, lay in it, eat it (not the yellow stuff...yuck), and just run and play in it. Sure is nice to not have to sleep in the snow, so yup, I love snow. Bring on the snow....I can even make snow angels.

Second is toys. I love toys. I love to rip up the stuffed ones, so those are great but don't last too long. That's ok, cause foster mom gave me some other toys that I can't rip up....some I can chew up but I still like to play with them, and guess what, foster mom gave me a brand new tennis ball....it's red and no other dogs have ever slobbered on it...so it's mine, all mine!! I like to play fetch and can play by myself, which makes foster mom laugh.

Third is a warm house to sleep in. I love, love, love living inside and sleeping on the couch and bed. Wow, is the bed soft and warm. If Jimmie is sleeping on the bed, I sleep on a dog bed and it's soft and warm too. I like sleeping next to foster mom and getting belly rubs and ear rubs and snuggles. Relaxing in a warm house is so nice. So are dog beds, do you know there are 11 dog beds in this house....I've tried them all......only tried to eat one....slept on the rest.

Most of all, I'm thankful for RAGOM, cause they made all of this stuff happen....well not the snow, but now the snow is fun cause I can come inside when I get cold and wet. I'm also thankful to RAGOM for taking care of my medical needs and for my foster home...thanks for telling foster mom to let me off leash a bit.

Oh, and I'm thankful that I get to go to the Richfield Petsmart on the 27th from 11AM to 1PM....come visit me before I have to stay home for the next month.

Happy Thanksgiving, Tanner

Foster mom here: Tanner is enjoying his two weeks of freedom from his heartworm treatment and is making the most of it. He's been out and about, visiting friends, dog food stores and the vet for a weight check....he's gained one pound so needs to gain another 5 or 6. It's so fun to see his personality emerge as he learns to play with toys and his foster brother and sister. He plays like a puppy and anyone who sees him asks his age as he acts much younger. We've had several friends over and I can say Tanner is kid tested and mother approved. He did very well with a 9 year old boy and their 6 month old Husky mix foster from Red Lake who stopped by to visit on her way to her forever home. Tanner will be at the Richfield Petsmart on the 27th. Please stop by to see this sweet boy...while he can't be adopted until after his heartworm treatment is complete and he is neutered, he's still looking to meet that special forever family who will give him the great golden life he can be thankful for.

Hey everyone, it's me Tanner. I'm sending my own update today as I have a couple of complaints in regards to my foster home and foster mom. Can you say BORING? My foster home is way too boring for me. Here are my complaints. I have no social life and I think foster mom is trying to poison me with the food she is feeding me. Foster mom keeps me confined to the kitchen and dining room or on leash all the time. She does not let me play with Rocco and Jimmie....I can't even wrestle Rocco in the bed without her stopping me. She does not take me for walks, doesn't take me for rides in the car and I even heard her tell people to not come over to visit...something about needing to keep me quiet. I'm not allowed to run around the neighborhood looking for girl dogs and she says my days of making puppies are over. Foster mom is feeding me some healthy kibble stuff instead of the road kill and garbage that I ate as a stray. While I'm happy to be living inside, I have to ask what the heck is going on here?? Isn't there some sort of rule on what foster mom has to let me do? I mean come on folks, I'm used to tons more activity and had a social life....even when I was a stray living in Iowa. Where do I file a complaint? Can someone help me find a new foster home....one where I can run and play and eat whatever I want? I'm so bored, I tried to eat foster mom's slippers and her shoes but even that did not get me kicked out of this house.....what's a guy supposed to do? Oh, oh here comes foster mom, so I have to go....hope I hit send before she saw me.

Foster mom here:  So I see Mr Tanner is complaining about living with me....silly boy. I know it is very hard for him to understand why he needs to stay quiet but it is what he needs to do in order to get healthy. So far he is doing well with his heartworm treatment....no complications or issues. He needs to stay quiet for 6 more days and then he can have two weeks of mostly normal activity.....so his social life will improve in a few days. He will then receive two more injections and will need to be quiet for one month....good luck to all of us on that!! I know he thinks he is being punished but this what the doctor ordered and I am doing my best to follow their instructions so he can recover, find his forever home and live the Golden life that he deserves. I know he would rather eat leftovers and dead stuff so he is not happy with the Wellness kibble I'm feeding him but again it is in his best interest for him to eat a high quality food.

Tanner is a very sweet boy who is adjusting to living inside. He is doing well, really likes sleeping in the bed with me and my two resident dogs. He is getting used to the normal household noises and movements and is learning that people are good and that they will not hurt him. I suspect life and people were none too kind to Tanner so he is working on letting go of those bad experiences so he can move on and enjoy all that his new life has to offer him. He has come a long way in the two weeks he has been with me, has gone from cowering when I tried to pet him to now nudging my arm or hand for more pets and is even giving me very small kisses from time to time. We will start working on some basic obedience training and some basic manners. Since Tanner is not able to exercise his body due to the exercise restrictions from his heartworm treatment, we will start exercising his mind and hopefully he will be less bored.

Thanks for checking in on Tanner's progress. Won't you please consider sponsoring him or making a donation to help with his medical care? Also, please remember to give your animal companions their heartworm preventive so they do not have to go through what Tanner is going through. Here's a photo of Tanner....giving me his sad look...trying to convince me to just let him run for just a bit.....sorry buddy not today.

Hi folks, Tanner here. Foster mom says I'm in the dog house today so I have to write my own update. Here's how things went down.....foster brother Rocco dared me to go out the back door if he opened it when foster mom went out of the room for a couple of minutes. So I went outside without a leash, or foster mom but with foster brother. He dared me to climb over the fence and said if I did he would, well, I did and Rocco did not. Since it was Saturday night in the big city and I'm a country boy, and well let's say not too much happening at foster mom's, I thought I'd go looking for a girl dog to visit with. I found one 4 blocks away...she's 14 years old, but hey, still nice to me. Her humans were with her so they put a leash on me and took me for a walk to the police station. Foster mom had already left my description and her phone number with the police, so they called her and she picked me up. Now I am on house arrest and so are Rocco and Jimmie. Foster mom put a child proof lock on the back door so Rocco can not open it and there are new gates up so we can not escape, doors have to be locked at all times, or I have to be on leash. Foster mom says get used to it, This is how it will be for the next few months. Well, enjoy the photo of me wearing my Halloween shirt. Talk to you after my visit to the vet.

Foster mom here: Just happy Mr Social decided to show me how smart he and Rocco can be before he started his treatment. Also very grateful for the wonderful neighbors, volunteers and police department who helped bring Tanner back to home. Most of all thank you to RAGOM for taking in Tanner and for making sure he gets the medical care he needs.
