I was surprised at how well Tate did at the Woodbury PetCo event this past Sunday, as it was soooo busy with all kinds of dogs and people. Another RAGOM volunteer and her husband handled Tate, and they said that he was fabulous the whole time; I hope you got to meet him if you went!
Tate gets more and more confident in the house every day, and takes queues from the other two dogs as to what the routine is. Going out and coming in doorways seemed to be an initial problem with Tate, since he was strictly an outdoor kennel dog, but he will enthusiastically follow another dog's lead. Tate still retreats to his crate when unsure of a situation, but has stayed within my kitchen and dining room area only and hasn't wandered past that self-imposed boundary. He is free in the house 24 hours a day, but has not ventured past his "safe zone", even though the other dogs are all over the house. Most mornings when I come downstairs, Tate will be laying on the rug in front of his crate, and wags his tail now when he sees me. He is SUCH a sweet dog! :)
He was stripped of his stud status this morning, and came through it just great. The vet was kind enough to examine his ears a bit closer and discovered some mild inflammation and a small wax plug, so will have the greasy-ear look for the next five days. An interesting thing about Tate is that even though he was not neutered when I got him last Saturday night, he never once lifted his leg to mark in my house all week - whoo-hoooo!!! He also is not a counter-surfer; silly foster mommy left about five different bags of dog treats on the kitchen counter, at Tate height, and he did not touch a thing.
Tate will be meeting a dog named Hazel on Saturday to see if she and he would like to spend the remainder of their doggie years together. If we all agree, Tate will be my shortest foster dog ever! I will miss Tate, as he is the epitome of a Golden Retriever.
