Toby 08-199

Profile

Toby is a 3 yr old neutered male PB Golden Retriever. His previous owner had to move and gave Toby to his brother.  The brother works two jobs and doesn’t have enough time for him, so he surrendered Toby to RAGOM.  The brother wants RAGOM to place Toby in a home where he can get the love and attention he deserves.

After just a few days fostering Toby, we know that he is very affectionate, loves being petted, and is eager to please. He’s house broken and sleeps quietly on the floor along side our bed. He’s very well socialized with both people and dogs.

He was raised with young kids and other dogs and loves everybody.  Toby walks well on a leash with a gentle leader.  He hasn’t had any real training, so he’ll counter surf and look in waste baskets for food.  We don’t leave food out unattended to tempt him, so we haven’t had a problem.

He’s easy to train; he has learned “Sit”, “Off” and has “Come” down pretty well in just three days.  He follows me around from room to room and sticks close by even when outside in the yard.  Toby hasn’t displayed any aggression or resource guarding.  He needs an owner to go to an obedience training class with him to become completely well behaved.

Toby is a big boy, he weighs 114 lbs and the vet thought he could lose 10 lbs to be at a good weight for his frame.  He is UTD on shots and has a clean bill of health.   He is a handsome guy, mellow, and has the easy-going Golden personality.

It was another good week for Toby.  He’s got our daily routine down pat.  He met lots of other dogs and people at Chuck and Don’s and on home visits and he is friendly and non-aggressive with everyone.  He is doing well, just in two weeks he is much more active; running and playing and he is eager to go on walks.

He has a favorite corner area of the yard where he likes to do his business.  I appreciate that because it make it easy to do the clean up.  He is initiating play with our resident dog often now.  They play really well together.  They like to play tug of war or keep away – I’ve got the sock and you can’t get it.

He does need an obedience class to learn more commands.  He’s a smart boy and he catches on quick, training him is easy.

Toby is a great dog, we are letting run loose in the house while we are gone 9.5 hours a day during the work week.  He’s not done anything inappropriate while we are gone.     He likes all people including kids, all dogs and he enjoys making new friends.  He is amazingly well behaved for not having any real training. He needs to go to obedience school but he’ll be easy to train, he responds well to praise and attention.

He is very mellow and easy going, he sits and takes a bath with no problems and he especially likes the toweling and brushing part after the bath.  Toby doesn’t mind trimming his toenails, wiping his paws off when coming into the house or getting his ears cleaned.  Tobey is very gentle; he just loves attention and getting his tummy rubbed.

He isn't a runner - more a Velcro dog, he sticks pretty close and follows us from room to room.  When we are outside in the yard, we put a 30 foot training lead on him.   He does stay near and if he wanders away a bit, he’ll come back when called most of the time right now after just a week working with him.  After a few weeks of obedience training, I think he would be ready to be trusted under supervision completely off leash.

We’re enjoying fostering him; he’s a big guy but also a very loving and devoted dog.   He has that well know “Golden Personality”.
