Toby (Custer/Toby 05-123)

Profile

We picked Toby up on Saturday, January 17, 2009. He was adopted from RAGOM in 2005 and was known as “Custer” 05-123. When his owner died, the owner’s children kept him for about a year and then he was surrendered back to RAGOM.

His first stop was to the groomer for a shampoo and trim and then we went to the vet. He had a swollen lip and was found to have an abscess so is on an antibiotic for 10 days. He is a tall guy and weighs 64 lbs. He is about 7 years old but has the energy of a young pup. He loves to bury himself in the snow, run around the yard, will toss his toys in the air and catch them. He is a big sweetheart.

He had two accidents on the first day we brought him home but has had none since. He is not a counter surfer, doesn’t guard his toys and loves to eat. Did I say “eat”? I meant inhale his food in about 60 seconds flat. He walks well on a leash and loves to cuddle. Toby is one of the sweetest dogs I think I’ve ever known and I have not heard him bark yet. My resident dog Molly and Toby like to chase each other, although Toby is pretty fast and always wins.

He doesn’t jump on anyone when we come into the house and sits at the top of the stairs waiting patiently. He is crate trained although doesn’t use it anymore. He slept in it the first few nights with the door left opened, but prefers the rug next to our bed now. He has free roam when we go away and has been the perfect gentleman. What can I say, we absolutely love this guy!

Toby just got back from a nice long walk. He loves to go for walks and runs in circles when I get the leash. He is so well behaved. He comes when called, knows sit, stay, and “drop” when he brings me back the ball he fetches.

No accidents in the house since day one. He gives kisses to every man, woman, and animal that shows him any attention. My senior resident dog isn’t quite so sure she wants another dog in the house and would growl at Toby when he got too close to her. Now he lies next to her bed and puts his head on it while she is in there. It’s so funny. He has these big old eyes and stares at her.  He won’t let her growls get to him and I think he has just worn her down into liking him. He gives her big wet kisses and she just looks at him like he’s crazy.

He is the absolute best dog and has such a gentle mouth when offered a treat. He loves people and all other dogs. He greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and a happy face.  Toby was adopted today and has now found his forever home with us. He will get lots of love and the attention that he so deserves. We feel very lucky to have him.
