Meet this GORGEOUS red boy, named Red!  Red came to us today with the help of an amazing transport volunteer.  This wonderful lady drove very far to pick him up, and even sent him to his foster home with a new toy!

Red was a stray, so we don't know much about his history.  He is estimated to be 2 years old, and we'll double check that when he goes to the vet this week to get neutered!  So far we've determined that Red is house trained.  Even if he has to go to the bathroom, he waits until he is let outside.  Red is also very gentle and calm.  We wonder if someone, at some point loved Red very much and trained him to be polite, because when Red wants attention he sits very calmly next to you.  He doesn't paw, or jump, he just sits like a polite gentleman!

Red has met several dogs today, and did wonderfully with all of them!  All ages, genders and sizes of dogs seem to be just fine with him.  He also met a couple of kids, the youngest of which was 9 years old, and he did wonderfully.  When Red first got to our house today, it took a few minutes of coaxing to get him to come up the stairs.  Being in a home seems like a pretty new experience for him in a lot of ways.  He seems to really like the fact that he can go outside, but there are always humans at the door to let him back in....we think he really likes everything he's learning about being in a home!  Although some things make him a little nervous, he's already picking up on everything so quickly...and being so brave, that we hope in the very, very near future he will have learned that everything is safe and wonderful!

There is however, one thing that Red (and I) will be spending a lot of time working on in the near future.  Red is extremely thin and we will be giving him three meals a day for a few days to make sure he's eating (well) and that he doesn't get an upset stomach from his new food.  He's a beautiful boy with fantastic feathering and long, beautiful red fur.

We will send in updates frequently as we get to know this beautiful, sweet, affectionate and wonderful boy.  From what we've seen of him so far, we think he'd be good in a variety of different homes.

Not too much new to report about Red. I've added a couple of new pictures; it is so hard to get a good picture that really shows how beautiful this boy is, so I'm taking TONS of pictures in the hopes that some will start to reflect how handsome he is!!

These two pictures show a couple of Red's favorite activities.  The first one (note the polite paw cross Red does) catches Red during/before or after a nap!  Red LOVES laying under foster mom's desk while she works during the day!  The second picture is of Red enjoying a rawhide...loves those!

Well its been about another week!  Red has been doing fantastic!  He had nervous behaviors when he first got here, but each day he has gotten better and better!  He seems to be pretty at ease here now.  He spends most of his day laying around, sleeping!  He went on his first walk with us, and it might have been his first walk ever!  He was content to hang back and walk behind everyone.  Occasionally he'd get into the walk and would trot ahead a little bit.  His favorite part of the walk was finding out that at the end of the walk we got to go back home!  Almost makes you wonder if he thought he wouldn't get to come home...

Red's appetite has been fantastic!  He is slowly weaning off his lunchtime meal.  Additionally we are lowering how much we're feeding him because he has started leaving extra food in his bowl.  We are thrilled to see that this wonderful boy has finally started getting full!

Everyone who meets Red is stunned by how calm and gentle he is.  Red would literally be happy to sit and be petted all day long, he lives for human affection!  Once you start petting him, it doesn't take him long to close his eyes and enjoy the attention.  Red would do well with anyone who is looking for a dog to lavish attention on!  He is a wonderful, sweet and very, very mellow boy.  He has the great quality of being a young boy, with the calm nature of a senior!

Red went to the vet this week, and even got in for his neuter already!  Aside from having a really icky ear, Red is in great shape!  Red has been on ear medicine for a few days, and will continue for a few more.  The vet confirmed that Red is 2 years old at most!  Red weighed in a pound or two shy of 60lbs, and the vet thinks he needs to gain at least 15lbs.  Also at the vet, Red got to meet some kittens through the wire kennel in the waiting room.  The kittens were a lot more outspoken about Red than he was about them!  Not sure he knew what to make of those tiny, floofy things that were hissing :)

There was also a little girl at the vet's office and it's very clear that Red loves children (what GR doesn't!?)  As soon as he heard her voice he was sitting at attention.  She was only about 6 years old, and he sat very still for lots of love and pets from her.  In fact, when I picked Red up after his neuter, it was clear that Red had charmed the WHOLE staff at the clinic!

Red is a pretty mellow guy, but we can tell it's going to take him a few more days to really get the hang of what's going on in this house.  It's hard to say if he's been in a home before ... in some ways he really seems at ease, and in other ways its clear he is learning some things for the first time.

Red is a stunningly handsome boy, who has a terrific temperment.  Some family is going to be truly lucky to add him to their home.

We'll send more updates as we get to know Red better!

I'm loving these things I get to chew on!
