Walker 10-106

Profile

I would like to welcome the newest senior member of the RAGOM family, Walker!  I was going to wait until after his vet appointment tomorrow to introduce him but he's such a sweetie I wanted him to get advanced airtime!  Walker is an 11-year-old puppy, seriously!  His age says 11 but his body says 7, but with the manners of an 11-year-old! Walker was surrendered because hisprevious owner increased his work hours and Walker was being left alone for too many hours each day.   You can tell this boy was incredibly loved -how many unloved dogs make it to 11 and are this healthy?!?  I want thank his previous owner for doing what was best for Walker.

Walker was a regular at a doggy day care before he came into RAGOM and it shows because he met my crazy pack with NO issues!  Not a growl, no raised lips, no hackles up, NOTHING!  What a great puppy!  After they were done meeting outside we came in and he found the toy box and rifled through it until he found exactly what he was looking for.  It's like he's lived here his whole life.  He also hasn't had an accident which is phenomenal because my baby girl, Millie (09 291), has been getting over a UTI which means accidents in the house.  He smelled them and walked away!

He met the neighbors 2-year-old today and was so excited!  He gave her a sniff and wagged his tail.  Then he moved onto their itty-bitty little 8 pound dog and was so very excited to find a new playmate!  Roger thought he was pretty cool as well.  I think he's going to be a hit in the neighborhood!

He has had several meals now and has no issues with eating with a pack... I have a small kitchen and there were no issues, however he wasn't too fond of the extra veg I put in bowls as treats...  So, what does Walker need in his furever family?  LOVE and TIME!!  He needs someone who is going to love him for the rest of his life, which based on the fantastic shape he's in at 11, could be another 4-6 years!  He needs a family that is going to have regular and predictable work hours and not leave him alone for longer than a typical work day.  He would LOVE to have another dog to hang out with, but if you don’t have one that's not a deal breaker.  He is fine with kids and hasn't paid much attention to my cat.  He doesn't need a fence as he has great recall (found that out the hard way!). Lets be honest, it's hard to give a senior dog a chance.  We want our dogs to live forever and when we adopt a senior there is a chance that forever will come sooner than we'd like.  After I had to put Hatch (09 196) to sleep I swore I'd never foster another senior but how can you not love those faces?!?  And how can you not love the fact that they have so much life experience that all they want is for you to love them furever?   I think that if you even meet Walker, you won't be able to say no... so if you're ready to give a healthy, full of energy, 11-year-old senior a shot then Walker is your dog!  Contact your placement advisor and let them know you're interested in this puppy!

Ragom,

I just wanted to let you know our lives have been wonderful since we decided to adopt Walker on April 25th. He is 11 and we knew we could provide him the best last couple years of his life. Our golden, Mason, who is a 9 yr old male is his new best friend. They even look alike! Walker is spoiled rotten, gets plenty of exercise, vet visits, medications, grooming and much more. He has 3 of his OWN beds in addition to 50+ toys, a 2 level deck, baby swimming pool and huge yard. Seeing him every morning brings a smile to my face. He is just perfect and so well behaved. I want to get more active in your organization and encourage others to consider adoption before "the pet store."

Thanks for getting Walker a second chance and giving us this wonderful gift!

Walker continues to be the dream foster!  He loves everyone he meets!  His tail starts wagging when anyone looks at him!  The whole neighborhood knows him and comes over to visit with him now.  I have people asking to go for walks with me so they can walk Walker :-)  He just has that pull on people!

Below are some pictures of Walker with Henry.  Henry is about 2-years-old and hasn't quite learned the whole "gentle" with dogs yet.  He gave Walker kisses while Walker was chewing on a high value item, a raw bone.  He also lost his footing and fell on Walker.  This dog, did nothing both times!  He didn't raise a lip, he didn't growl and he didn't even bother getting up to get out of the way!  He just let Henry be a kid :-)

This week we learned that Walker has some mild storm anxiety.  On Monday night when we had that beautiful display of lightening and thunder he thought it not so beautiful.  He panted and shook like a leaf and crawled in bed with me for the first time.  His previous owner did say he was afraid of this and would either go into his kennel or downstairs.  I wasn't prepared for the storm so didn't have a kennel ready for him.  His previous owner said that there was never any destruction and I've had destructive storm anxiety dogs in the past and he definitely does not exhibit those same behaviors.  So what does this mean for Walker?  It means that when there is a storm, you might have to take some time to help comfort him.  You will need to set up a safe place for him and introduce this to him ahead of time so he knows it's safe.  He doesn't need someone who will be home with him during storms, just someone who can help with advanced planning.

If you would like to give Walker that furever home, please let your placement advisor know!
