Wilson 10-297

Profile

Wilson came to RAGOM from a loving young family. His size and playfulness was too much for the young children. Because of this, Wilson should have older children in his future home. Wilson can live with other dogs. A fenced yard would be nice because Wilson has LOTS of energy to burn. Wilson will need a family committed to training and exercise as well as love.

We adopted our sweet Wilson from RAGOM 10 years ago at a year old. I remember it like yesterday when we first met him, he took my mitten and then immediately put his head on my lap to say, “I’m sorry." He melted our hearts from the very beginning (and continued to be mischievous!)!

He brought so much joy to our home and was the most patient dog (our kids loved to ride him like a horse…if he was getting attention, he didn’t mind…much. :)

On July 18, 2020, Wilson crossed the rainbow bridge at 11 years old. We miss him SO much and there’s just an empty feeling in our home.

Thank you RAGOM for pairing us up with the best dog we loved so much and we know he’s running, jumping, and sneaking mittens from others in heaven.

Original Initial Bio:

Exuberant, rambunctious, annoying, playful, raucous, rowdy, and sometimes turbulent are great words to describe Wilson. Also sweet, adorable, loveable, comical, sometimes obedient, and just plain cute as a button also describe him to a tee.

Wilson came to RAGOM from a loving young family. His size and playfulness were too much for the young children. He would run right over the top of them and as this is the house in the neighborhood that all the young kids like to play at, he had a lot of kids to bowl over.

Wilson, as you can tell, is a curly mop GR/Poodle mix. A Golden/doodle of the best kind. He is 16 months old and acts every bit of it.

He LOVES to play with resident Max and Duster. He loves to chew on bones, balls, towels, & bowls. No furniture or shoes – yet – Good Boy!

He will chase the ball and sort of bring it back. When really excited he does mouth your hand, arm or foot – we are working on knowing when he has crossed “the line”. There is no biting but even mouthing is a behavior that is not encouraged.

He is good at sit/stay to wait for his food. He remembers most days without too much reminding, even though he acts as if he is half starved!!! He will need constant vigilance on sit/stay/wait/down/off. He is only a young pup and plus he just gets so excited. But he is smart and really does want to please you.

His worst behavior is to jump up when someone comes to visit. A knee in the chest has stopped him from doing that to me, but non-dog owners don’t quite get the timing of knee/chest and then he thinks it is a game. Obedience and practice will be the key to breaking this behavior. AND people who don’t encourage it but petting that mop of curls which is really hard not to do!

For all his exuberant, rambunctious, annoying, playful, raucous, rowdy, and sometimes turbulent ways, he is really a great dog and will be a wonderful pet. He absolutely loves, loves, loves people and to play. He is the last in the evening to lose his energy.

He would be a great running partner as he has long legs. He will need to have regular grooming so that his curly mop does not get matted.

He barks at the neighbors and warns you if there is someone on the sidewalk out front. Again he jumps up on the window to bark at the activity outside. He likes to counter surf and got into a big fight with a Kleenex box that he took off the counter. Wilson 1 – Kleenex box a big zero. He is in training now to learn to keep his paws on the floor.

Speaking of paws – he has some of the biggest paws I have ever seen. Plus they are a darker shade of brown than his body. Basically he is buff or beige over most of his body. Brown ears and tail with brown “boots”.

His wellness check with the Vet went well. He was a little bit nervous but very friendly with all the staff. He quieted down fairly quickly and was curious of all the smells. He was given his Distemper, rabies shot and micro chipped. Wilson weighs 59 and has been neutered. He is now up to date on all his shots.

He has a couple of spots on both front legs that shows signs of licking. One spot, the hair is growing back over nicely. The other has a little spot of rawness. I am watching to see if it is seasonal allergy condition, food allergy or if it is nerves. I woke up the other night and heard him licking. A quiet “No / Stop” and he settled down again.

From the Vet we went food shopping to change his diet to a non grain with veggies. He did have a little bit of gas that well….truthfully, how should I say it….could clear the Target Center during playoffs. The last couple of days have been SO MUCH better!

While at the store he did show some signs of being scared. It was around the automatic door so it could very well have been his first time through electric doors. This was a new experience to see him this way because at home he has showed no signs of being timid or being afraid. I don’t believe it to be a problem. His adoptive family will have no problem taking him on trips or to pet friendly events.

I think Wilson would do best if he goes to a family who will teach him boundaries, give him lots of hard exercise to burn off his energy. A walk around the block won’t be enough for this guy. He would be great with another dog as he is not aggressive with food or toys and loves to play.
