Wrigley (Ralts (fka Charlie) 05-03-157)

Profile

6/19/05: Ralts has been with me for only three days but we bonded nearly instantly. This big, sweet two year old healthy and athletic male has been a joy to be a around – so far he has done nothing wrong. He is about 80 pounds and light orange in color. He may be a mixed breed; he is somewhat taller and longer than most Golden Retrievers. He was originally named Charlie but his last family named him Ralts after a Pokemon character. Everyone, including me, tends to call him "Buddy" because that’s what he is! He is great around adults, children, other dogs and cats. Ralts loves to play and run but he walks well on a leash. I have been told he loves to swim but have not personally taken him swimming. He has complete vet records and is nearly up to date, but he will be microchipped at his next appointment.

From Wrigley's (fka Ralts) forever family...

Dear RAGOM friends,

As background, Wrigley had formerly lived with a family in St. Paul. When he was approximately 2 years old, the family decided that they did not have any time for him or any of their pets, and that's how Wrigley found his way to RAGOM. We had another dog at the time (a rescue black lab) who desperately wanted a brother. Having loved Goldens, RAGOM was a logical choice for us. SO... We adopted Wrigley and the rest is history. He even has another new brother (a chocolate lab puppy) so the 3 of them are having a ball.

We learned very early on that Wrigley is a very proud dog and loves having a job to do. So on this particular trip, we had taken Wrigley and Harley (our black lab) up to the Gunflint Trail to a cabin/resort that allows dogs. Each day, they would swim in the lake and chase ducks or whatever was brave enough to swim by with the 2 of them swimming around. We would start our day with a hike, either around the campgrounds or up into the mountains. We purchased a backpack for Wrigley and his "job" became carrying the water bottles for all of us. He was so happy (as the picture suggests) to be the proud "water dog" for the group. He led the pack by staying way ahead of us and ensured that we were safe to walk where we were headed. This photo was taken at the end of a very long hike, when Wrigley just happened to look up from his water dish and give us a big lip smacking smile. I think it represents just how happy he is now to be with a loving family!

Today Ralts and I took part in the RAGOM Education Booth at PetCo in Apple Valley and it was great to have him around all of the other Goldens! I did find out two things: The pictures I have posted on the website do not do Ralts justice and that he is part White Shepherd. His mother was a Golden Retriever and his father was a White Shepherd or Golden/Shepherd mix. Ralt's dominant breed is definitely Golden Retriever, but he is just a bit taller and longer than any of the other Goldens. He was such a good boy today (he always is!) and he did so well riding in the front seat of the truck for half an hour each way. I have not been aggressive enough in finding a forever home for Ralts because he has been an absolute joy to have around. I do need to find him a home because there are so many other dogs that need me to foster them.

All has been going well with Ralts. I have been quite busy and have not had much time to find a new home for him. For the most part he has been really well behaved. Since he has been with me he has never made a mess in the house except for two times that he ripped up the toilet paper in the bathroom. Ralts is very loyal and intelligent. I really have not been training him in any way, but he has not been any problem. About the last five times we have met dogs on the walk path going the other way he has laid down and waited for them to approach. This has been with puppies, Daschunds and dogs nearly as big as he is. He does have a gentle nature with other animals.

There has not been much to report about Ralts lately, he is a great buddy! My 13 year old cat seems to like his companionship more every day. I have been able to make sure he gets a walk each day, sometimes he is a little stubborn when he finds something he wants to smell! I generally let him lead the way, but I like to keep moving forward.

Ralts has been left at home for long periods and has never made a mess or wrecked anything yet. I continue to allow him complete freedom in the house and he has been a good boy. He has been very social with my neighbor’s dogs. He plays with a Beagle pup and pair of Yellow Labs. I have been very busy and have not had time to actively locate a family to adopt him, but everyone who meets this guy loves him. In the meanwhile, he has been very good for me!
