Wylie 07-093

Profile

I am Wiley's temp foster, but am very tempted to keep him myself...forever! He has been recovering from a few issues... ear infections, bladder infection, recent neuter surgery. But even with all that he is the sweetest dog you could ask for. He is currently on antibiotics and ear meds. Wiley is a Golden mixed with something more compact, maybe Sheltie or Aussie, and looks like a miniature Golden with some white markings on his face and front feet. He is about 2 years old and only weighs about 30-40 lbs. He could stand to gain a few pounds. I can lift him up and hold him like a baby. He acts like he completely expects to be rocked to sleep in my arms. His exercise needs are minimal, which may be because of his recovery. Sleeping is his favorite activity right now. He will walk into his kennel and plop down for a nap, without being asked. At bedtime he whined a bit so my son volunteered to sleep next to his kennel the first night. My other son has dibs on that duty tonight. We'll see how it goes the third night alone. He would probably be fine on a dog bed (or people bed), but I'm not ready to try that since we don't let dogs in the bedrooms at our house. Wiley doesn't seem to have any bad behaviors. He peeked on the counter a couple of times, but he can barely reach it so I wasn't worried. Not at all mouthy, and really doesn't kiss too much either. He kind of stays to himself in a friendly, interactive sort of way. He was a stray, so is probably used to being on his own. Whoever adopts this guy will be getting one precious boy!

Hi, Wylie here. All of the nice kennel folks say I am the best dog here! They say I don't bark and make a fuss at the other dogs in the kennels next door. I'm not like my crazy kennel neighbors. And I NEVER mess my kennel. Not even when I was not feeling so good earlier this week. All of my friends at the boarding kennel just LOVE me. In fact, one of them said that if she wasn't fostering another dog and her puppies, she would take me home. How's that for a testimonial? I just love to be outside and sit by you for snuggles. I much prefer that to playing with a ball or another dog. I'm a very mellow boy. The nice RAGOM volunteers who visit me say I pull on my leash but it's only to get away from those other barking dogs. She says I have the most beautiful eyes. I'm a bit of a shorty so if you are looking for a small snuggly, loving boy--I'm your dog. But please make me your only dog. I'm tired of living with other dogs and would prefer to be your one true love. I promise you won't be disappointed.      Wylie is, unfortunately, not fond of all other dogs and doesn't do well with cats either.  He has been known to get along with some dogs, but really enjoys being the only dog and the center of attention (that way he gets all the kisses!).  Many wonderful RAGOM volunteers stop by to see him throughout the week, but it's just not the same as being in a loving home where he can be near his people all the time.  Because Wylie has been in foster care before for extended periods of time, RAGOM will adopt him out from the kennel - though we don't normally do this.  Wylie is a lover and a snuggler and we are all hopeful that his perfect family is out there somewhere.  If you are a family that will be happy with one fur child (who will give you all his lovin'), Wylie might be the dog for you!  He truly is a good boy and deserves a loving home to call his own.  Please email placement if you want to meet this adorable little boy!! Another foster who met Wylie said....   I have had the pleasure of playing with Wylie at the kennel he is boarded at.  He reminds me of a small, slender, fuzzy teddy bear.  His coat is longer than most goldens, so after a lengthy play session I got out the brush.  He layed down and went to sleep while I brushed and brushed him.  He seemed like he was in heaven.   On occasion he looked
up at me with his adorable face and I just wanted to lay down and snuggle up with him.  He is such a mellow, sweet boy.

My kids, ages 4 and 8, thought Wylie was really cool.  They tried out every available toy with him and his favorites were tennis balls.  He was a decent fetcher but he was more interested in checking out all the interesting smells in the play yard.  He walks pretty well on a leash although he does insist on frequent stops to check things out.  When I
showed him that I had treats, he quickly responded to the sit command and seemed very proud of himself.  He is a unique dog that is incredibly loveable and will melt your heart.

I was Wiley's first foster. I had him for 5 days when he first came to RAGOM. Since then he has had some bad luck finding a place to land permanently. Wiley was adopted, but came back into RAGOM because he didn't live up to expectations. He has been in boarding since coming back into RAGOM. I recently took him out of boarding for a weekend of rest and relaxation at my house. I think over the time we have gotten to know him, we have been able to clearly identify the type of home that Wylie will flourish in.       First, Wiley should be the only dog in the house. He loves to have his own space, and sometimes dogs don't understand that not everyone likes to play. He and I went to Petco, and he did very well when he was closely managed by me. Having a dog in his house, however, has not been successful. Wylie will play with me for a bit when he is excited, like when I have just come home after being gone for a few hours. He is so excited to see me he pounces on and chases his toys for a few minutes before settling back into his mellow self. I am not aware that he has been tested with cats, but in the interest of complete success I would also recommend that Wiley not live with cats. Second, Wiley should be in a home where someone is home a lot. Although he likes his space, Wiley also needs to know that someone is nearby. When he is lounging at my feet under the dining room table, he will stay there when I get up, as long as I am in the kitchen or the dining room. If I move to the bathroom or bedrooms he follows me and lays back down where he can see me. He becomes very attached to his people, even though he is not all over them, like a typical golden would be. Sometimes I play hide and seek, running into another room before he can follow me. He'll search around and he gets so excited when he finally finds me.           Third, speaking of typical golden...Wiley is not one. He loves to be petted and scratched, and even brushed some. But when he's had enough, he walks away and lays down nearby. He is a good companion, though not a very interactive one all the time. If you need to be needed by a needy dog, Wiley is not the one. Though he likes to go for walks, he is satisfied with multiple short, slow outings. (In that regard he and I are a good match.)  Wiley is housetrained. If you want a smaller, gentle companion that will be fully devoted to you, has minimal exercise needs, and you don't have any dogs or cats, Wiley is your man!

Wylie is perfect. He is very mellow and enjoys sacking out on the couch in the living room or one of the beds. He spent the day in a crate and was quiet when I came home at noon and again after work. He does not bother anybody, he doesn't even seem interested in the bunny. Last night I noticed that he crawled into bed with us but he didn't take up much room and he did it very quietly and gently. So far, he has been a wonderful house guest. He seems to be a fussy eater as so far he hasn't eaten much....I'll dig out the canned stuff if he doesn't eat by tomorrow morning. I'll update later once we know him better, but his first 24 hours has gone more smoothly than most.
