RAGOM fans let me introduce you to Mr. Yosef. Yosef was surrendered to a shelter in southern MN after his owner was no longer able to care for him and his brother. Yosef and his brother (Murphy 11-009) made their way from the shelter into RAGOM's care. Yosef is 2.5 years old. He was living his life outside until coming into RAGOM. Yosef has been to the vets and was brought up to date on vaccinations and was neutered. His only remaining issue is his ears. The insides of his ears look like cauliflower due to untreated ear infections. The good thing is Yosef is such a happy guy that just loves attention from humans that he does not even seem to mind the daily cleanings and ear drops.

Yosef is quickly learning the good life of living indoors in a comfy warm environment. FD must always go outside with him and the resident dogs otherwise Yosef will not do his business outside. He will just stand and paw at the patio door to be let back inside. I think he has learned to do his business outside. Last night he awoke me with a few whines and needed to go potty. Though I was not happy about the time of night I was happy that he did give a good signal to go outside.

Yosef is just now starting to engage in a game of chase in the back yard with the resident dogs. He will bark at Indy trying to entice her to run and then he quickly pursues her. In the house Yosef just loves to chew on marrow bones or nyla bones. He does not show any signs of aggression to the other dogs while he is enjoying these items. He has also destroyed several tennis balls. He does like to fetch the tennis balls or the bones that you throw. However he has not learned the "drop" command just yet.

Yosef has been here in my home since Monday night. Based on what I know so far this is what I think Yosef will need in his forever home:

  • No small children. Yosef is a big boy (80 pounds or so). He tends to jump on me and likes to put his paws up on the counter-tops. We are working on redirecting these behaviors.
  • Someone that is willing to help him learn some more manners. Obedience training would be strongly encouraged.
  • Another dog to be his pal and show him the ropes. I will try and take him out solo to see if he would be okay alone.
  • I will also try to see if he needs a physical fence or not. He seems to be very curious about what lies outside of the fence here in fostercare.

If you would like to know more about Yosef please contact your placement advisor.

XOXO

Updates

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Yosef wanted to give a long over due update on what he has been up to. First off just take a look at the newest pictures. Yosef absolutely loves his weekend trips to the cabin "up north". And he is a true lover of the water. He now follows his foster sisters in to the lake for a drink of water and to cool off. He just loves to jump in the boat. I think he was trying to tell FD where the fish are. Yosef also does really well riding in the car. When he first arrived in foster care (nearly 6 months ago) he was a bit nervous in the car and would not sit down on the seat. Now he settles really quickly and just pops his head up when we slow or come to a stop at the traffic lights. It always helps to bring one of his many favorite toys or nyla bone chews along too.

We recently had Yosef to our friends at the vet clinic. Yosef now weighs in at a svelte 65 pounds. The vet says this is a good weight for Yosef. The vet sent us home with some additional medication to treat Yosef's ears. He came in to RAGOM with poor ears due to untreated ear infections in the past. The good news was he had no infections but with the warmer weather poor Yosef has more build up in his ear canals which are less than half the size they should be due to the past untreated infections. Yosef has been a very good patient with the daily ear cleanings and the medicated drops. We also switched Yosef to a grain free food and put him on some omega/fatty acid vitamins along with a low dose of benadryl. Though Yosef still has the itchies from time to time it has improved greatly over the past 2 weeks. The vet was hopeful that this is just a case of "seasonal allergies".

Yosef has done really well with the many family members visiting our house and up at our lake home. He just loves to be petted and will melt in your arms when you rub his ears and tummy. I just love the hugs he gives me many times each day. He usually has a toy or a nyla bone in his mouth. When ever we get ready to go outside we do a mouth check on him. Otherwise all of his prized toys would be left outside where we already have an ample supply of tennis balls.

Yosef would like the following in his forever home:

  • Another dog to be his role model and pal for occasional play.
  • A physical fence would be ideal to keep him safe from roaming and chasing after small critters.
  • No small children (10 or older would be ideal).
  • If you would like to know more about this handsome hunk of a golden please contact your placement advisor.

Yosef wants to give a BIG shout-out and Thank You to Snowie 07-672 and his Mom, Karen for the wonderful spring fling icon! It's hard to believe that Yosef has been in RAGOM's care for a full three months already and not been snatched up. Though he and his brother, Murphy, were living in less than ideal situation you would hardly know it today. Now Yosef is happy and content. He almost always has a toy, bone, or a ball in his mouth. And he makes the cutest little grunts and whistles when you call his name and rub his ears. One of my favorite things to do is to offer Yosef a treat in trade for his toy. He tries so hard to get the treat without releasing his toy but usually he drops the toy and quickly eats his treat. Then as quick as the treat disappeared he is off again with his toy in his mouth with his tail constantly wagging.

It's hard to get good pictures of Yosef. He tries to lick the camera most of the time. I have been trying to get a picture of him asleep on his back with his feet in the air. But every time I power on the camera he hears the little tone and jumps up to see what is going on.

What Yosef is looking for in his forever home:

  • No small children. He is a solid 70 pounds and can almost knock FD over when he is super excited.
  • Someone that is willing to take him through obedience training and give him a few more manners. He knows sit, come, and down but could learn stay.
  • A physical fence would be ideal. As the weather has warmed Yosef is constantly on the look out for squirrels and bunnies.

I think Yosef would like a furr sibling too. He now engages in wrestle mania with Indy and Lauren. He and Lauren are the dynamic duo in the house batting their paws in synchronized motion for attention from FD.

Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to know more about Yosef!

From Snowball 07-672 From Snowball 07-672

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Here's your chance to come and meet Yosef for yourself. Yosef and FD and possibly one of his resident dogs will be at the Eden Prairie PetSmart this Saturday from about 11:30 until 1:00. Yosef's brother Murphy (11-009) has his profile on the web site now too. They definitely look alike. Murphy's fosters must of received better information on these boys as it looks like their birthdates were Feb 2008 and not June 2008. So we will try and get our Yosef boy a new toy in honor of his third birthday. Yosef just loves to be carrying a toy or a bone around in his mouth most of the time. FD has to stop him at the door every time before we go outside as he always has something in his mouth.

In his newest pictures he has his purple Kong Wubba outside in the backyard for a game of fetch. His pal Indy tries so hard to get Yosef to chase her but he really is more interested in his toys or FD, sorry Indy. With all of the new snow from last weekend I thought maybe I would get to see Yosef make some snow angels but no such luck. Instead he would either play with his Wubba or watch intently for any sign of a squirrel running on top of the fence or in the trees.

Yosef is a velcro golden. He follows me from room to room and casually chills out nearby while I type out this update. His ears are doing much better and we only have a few days of meds to go. So come out and meet this boy on Saturday if you can or you may also contact your placement advisor to learn more about Yosef.

XOXO
Yosef
