Profile

Yukon and his brother, Russet 20-127, came into RAGOM because their owner wanted them to have the training and attention they need. They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. A typical Golden Retriever, Yukon is sweet and adores humans. He can live with children over 10, other dogs, and cats. In addition to continuous training, Yukon requires a secure fence that he cannot dig under as well as exercise to help with his weight loss and to burn off his young-dog energy.

The Spud Brothers found their dream home and were adopted this week!

Yukon, a big cuddler who just can't get close enough to you, was with us for almost a month. He was lucky to find a home that wanted to adopt both him and his brother—a family that has had bonded siblings previously. They had a meet-and-greet last week, and Yukon climbed all over them with muddy paws and slobber, and they just loved him even more!

He'll have a huge fenced yard to run in, two people who adore him to walk him daily in the park across the street and shower him with pets, and a couple of young adults who will have even more reason to visit mom and dad with the addition of these two handsome boys!

A great RAGOM success story! Congrats to the Y family and to Russet and Yukon!

Yukon has been here for three weeks, and just like they say, that's the amount of time it has taken him to settle in here and begin to feel at home. Yukon is perhaps the alpha of these two, and he is also the first one to get as close to you (like, on top of your foot!) to curl up as you are reading or watching TV. He loves sleeping right next to the bed so he can be as close to you as possible.

He's a super sweet boy who just wants to be loved, to make you happy, and to be near you. These two brothers are really an amazing pair of gorgeous, sweet-tempered dogs. They walk well on the leash and they are not barkers. They do indulge in a little digging but they are for the most part enthusiastic and rambunctious, but good, good boys.

They met a family the other day who might be the lucky winners of these guys. Fingers are crossed that they may have found their new home!

Yukon offers a big paw up to the kind sponsor who supported him and Russet this week! Big kisses to you!

Yukon has now been here for almost two weeks. The "Spud Brothers" are a delightful pair. (They were named Russet and Yukon because when the original owner got them as puppies, they looked like a couple of potatoes.) They are a totally bonded pair, so it's taken some time to sort out their different personalities.

Yukon is slightly bigger than Russet and more golden in color, while Russet is a dark red. Yukon is likely the alpha of the two, although it's difficult to tell because they are so connected. Like Russet, Yukon is a super sweet boy, LOVES attention—just can't get enough of it.

He loves his walks, and he walks really well on a leash. Neither of the Spuds are barkers; I've only heard a few peeps out of them.

They have done really well with the resident dogs; they hardly pay any attention to them, or to the cat. They're totally focused on Foster Mom and where is she going now, and can we go with her, and how can I fit under that desk, etc.

They came here with kennels that are just too small for them, so they haven't been crated since they have been here. If I leave, I baby gate them in the bathroom, where they have plenty of room to move around, sleep, etc.

They have responded really well to visitors; they're very social. After the first few nights of not sleeping in the bedroom, they have now moved in and sleep right next to the bed and right next to each other. They are mostly housebroken, although they have had a few accidents in the house. I try to keep letting them out as often as I can, and then everything is fine.

Yukon is more interested in food than Russet, but still not terribly food motivated. Treats, yes, but when feeding time comes, he may eat, or not. I've been adding additional treats to their kibble—canned food, cooked veggies, etc.—and that seems to interest them more.

Yukon had his vet checkup and came up with a pretty clean bill of health. He has a bit of dental tartar, but other than that, his report was good. He weighed in at 106 pounds, so the vet thinks he could drop 15 pounds! He is up to date on shots and on heartworm preventative.

Yukon has spent much of the past few days lying directly in front of the fan. He loves it! He camps out and sleeps away. Yukon was also caught doing a little excavation in the rose garden, trying to dig up a nice cool place to lie down. He was reprimanded but he may have some inclinations to move earth around.

Yukon will benefit from some training. Like Russet, he feels that he hasn't had adequate amounts of attention up to this point, so he overcompensates by being incredibly enthusiastic when he does get attention. He is also a master of the "Golden paw" and uses BOTH of his when he wants you to give him more love.

He seems to know some commands: sit, no, out, and he is responding and learning each day. But with the two of them, it will be really helpful to have two people giving them some clear direction and training. He is also totally bonded to Russet; when they are separated, they get very anxious.

The two of them together is a LOT of dog, especially when they are both coming at you with no real discipline. But Yukon is totally trainable at 2.5 years old, and he is a gorgeous, happy, smart dog. He is going to be a great pet!

Ideally, these two brothers (who must be adopted together) would do well in a two-person (at least) household, with both people equally invested in getting these boys on track with their adorable rambunctious selves.

They need daily exercise, some obedience training, walks in the park, playtime, and plenty of love and affection in a home with a fenced yard. We haven't tested them around children, but because of their size and rambunctiousness, it's best that they are not around kids under 10.

These boys are going to blossom!

Yukon is a 2-year-old, male, light gold, purebred Golden Retriever, estimated to be 115 lbs. He is part of a bonded pair with his littermate, Russet 20-127. Yukon and Russet must be adopted together.

The brothers were given their potato names because when their owner got them as puppies, they looked like a couple of potatoes! They were surrendered to RAGOM because their owner didn’t have the time for the training and attention these young boys deserve.

Due to their size and enthusiasm, they would be best in a home with children over 10 years of age. They have done fine with other dogs and a cat in their foster home.

These boys are medium-level-activity dogs who should have a secure fence, as they have been known to dig under the fence in their previous home to pursue adventure. Both dogs could stand to lose a few pounds and they need training, but this pair have delightful personalities and are gorgeous.

Yukon is super sweet, craves affection, and enjoys making you happy. He loves, loves, loves pets and can’t get enough of them. And when he gets pets, he gets even more enthusiastic! Yukon is perhaps the more dominant of the two brothers.

Like his brother, Yukon just wants to be by his person. He follows me around the house and sleeps by my feet while I am working. He will also sleep right next to his brother. He loves meeting people and is a sweet, exuberant boy.

Yukon loves walks and will require a family that will see he gets the exercise he needs. After his upcoming vet visit, we’ll know more about Yukon’s ideal target weight.

Yukon and Russet will need time to settle into a new home, and their family must dedicate time to their training. At 2 years old, Yukon is primed for learning how to be an excellent dog!
