Zeus 06-001

Profile

1/17/06: Zeus has finally settled into our household. What a great dog! He is full of sunshine and happiness everyday. Zeus is an active playful 3 year old that loves tennis balls and anything that squeaks. He is a retriever as well. He will bring his balls to you (sometimes 3 or 4 in his mouth at once) and drop them at your feet to throw. He immediately zooms off after it and returns it to you. Will wonders never cease. He lives to have you throw his toys. If you are busy and he can't convince you to throw it he will do it himself. He picks up his stuffed animals and tosses them into the air, lays on his back and chews them and begs for anyone to play tug-o-war with him. He is very playful with our older dog and sometimes can convince her to roll and tumble around the house. He is a speedy guy who burrows through the snow and rolls around in it for the sheer joy of the feeling. He's a hard guy to watch and not start grinning at the fun he is having.

He is UTD on all of his shots and is micro chipped and neutered. He was a stray but clearly has been someone's pet because he is a perfect gentleman. He knows his basic commands and will come when he is called, even when not on a leash. Although if a squirrel is sighted, I'm not too sure he could contain himself. He takes great joy in harassing them in the backyard. He is totally housetrained and has free roam of the house both when I am home and gone. He is an avid eater and loves everything, but doesn't guard his food or toys. He willingly lets me take his bones out of his mouth and just patiently waits for me to give it back. He is a very loving and gentle dog. Might be a bit underweight right now as he is long and tall, but a little thin. He has the narrow muzzle, not the blocky square face. He also has the most beautiful big brown eyes that soulfully beg you to pet him or play with him. If he is not playing with his toys his favorite place is with his head in your lap. Also wherever you goes, he goes. Loves to ride in the car without a problem, but if he is left home it is his furry little face that is right there when you open the door. He is a medium golden color with a lighter white undercoat. Such a soft and full coat with the beginnings of a developing flag on his legs. I don't believe the pictures do him justice as he is as beautiful on the outside as he is on the inside. A very easy going love of a dog, Zeus would fit well into any household. He makes you smile just to see what a happy dog he is.

Meet Casey (formerly "Zeus") - or "Handsome Pants" as we like to call him. Casey was the first dog RAGOM took in this year and was adopted right away by a wonderful family who has loved him ever since. Unfortunately, due to medical issues with that family, they surrendered him back to RAGOM so he could be adopted by another great family who can give him the love and attention he needs. They are very sad about this but love him enough to want the best life possible for him.

Here's what I know about him so far. He's a wonderful dog. That pretty much sums it up. Details? OK, well, let's start with the fact that he's beautiful and loving. Really, he's the sweetest thing this side of the Mississippi. He's completely housebroken, has free roam of the house during the day and is not destructive. He seems quite healthy. He knows his basic commands and LISTENS to them. He walks well on a leash and loves to go for walks. He rides great in the car. He's social and loves other dogs. He met our cat last night and seems hesitant to get too close to her, so he's SMART. He's used to living comfortably in a house, so he has great manners. We don't have kids, but word has it that he likes them a lot. He may be kind of big for really little kids, as he could knock them down, but we'll test that later with the neighbors. I gave him a bath yesterday, clipped his nails and cleaned his ears - he did great with all! Although when I was clipping his nails, he kept rolling over for a belly rub and even though I asked him to please hold still, he just couldn't contain himself, so this was a long process. Oh, and he LOVES to play ball - fetches it and brings it right back and drops it at your feet to throw again. His adoptive family will need to commit to regular "ball games" with him.

He's a velcro dog right now, has to be in the same room with us at all times, and gets up to follow whenever we leave. Given these are new surroundings for him, I think this is just nervous energy. He's not shy about putting his head on your lap for pets and kisses either. He sleeps on his dog bed next to our bed and slept nicely all night - although he was snoring for awhile. This is a very nice, well-adjusted dog, he won't last long.

He has a vet appointment tomorrow morning for a general physical, then he'll be good to go. If you're interested in meeting him, please contact placementatragom [dot] org.

With foster sister Sophie.
