Zeus (Parker 11-390)

Profile

Parker arrived at my house on Saturday afternoon during the beginning of the snow. He had spent a few hours in the various transporters cars as he journeyed from Iowa to the Twin Cities. He met my two goldens with barely a sniff. He checked out the yard and wanted to go into the house. He met the cat a bit later and quickly decided to stay away from her. She isn't a fan of new dogs at our house but she loves the two resident goldens.

He settled down quickly once the commotion died down. He obviously was someone's pet. He is very happy in the house and is completely housebroken.

What we know about Parker is minimal. He was a stray and was picked up by animal control in Vinton, Iowa. He had already been neutered. The people at the shelter in Iowa estimated his age at around 6 or 7. His estimated weight is about 70 pounds. He is more lab than golden but his coat is not as short as most labs I have known. He has a thick coat and the coloring is very light. He is very handsome.

His first night here went amazingly well. He slept all night. I got up once to see where he was and he was on the couch in the living room. He was quiet until the rest of us got up on Sunday morning. He has eaten well and everything seems to be just fine with him.

I put him in a crate and left him home without humans for a couple of hours this morning and he was fine. I suspect he will graduate quickly from the crate to more freedom, but I like to find out if my foster dogs are cratetrained....and he is.

On Sunday afternoon I took him to a Ragom event at a nearby Petco. He behaved perfectly and loved the attention. He rode nicely in the back of my SUV. I put a Gentle Leader on him for our walk from the car to the store and while I don't think he'd worn one before, he did very well with it on and he walks very nicely.

He likes to sleep on the couch in the living room. He usually jumps down immediately when someone enters the room but I managed to get this picture. We don't invite fosters onto the furniture but if they do it on their own, we don't tell them to get down.

I'll report more as we get to know him. We go to the vet the day after Thanksgiving, so he's not really available until we get the all-clear from the vet. My first impressions of him are that he's pretty perfect and will fit into any household. I don't think he'll be here long.

Parker continues to do well at my house. We are babysitting a 3 1/2 month old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. He has been so gentle with her, even when she drives him crazy (my two have been gentle with her also). She was pretty overwhelmed when she first met them but now she loves the big dogs and has no fear of them either. Below is a photo of them in the yard, she seems to always be near one of the big dogs...
