Hi, my name is Fred and I am a sweet 8 year old Cocker/Golden/Lab? I am very happy to be living inside of a home now, because I was always an outside dog.  YES, I have quickly learned potty training. I go to the door and whine to let you know I need to go out.

My world has been turned upside down so I am very anxious and nervous.  I LOVE my people and want to know where you are at all times.  I will follow you around everywhere, but then what Golden doesn't?

I am a wonderful sleeper (I get to sleep on a bed now) and sleep all through the night with my foster mom and sister.  I also have a foster brother.  I get along well with other dogs, but have to learn some manners  I like to hump!!  Mom is working on me with that because Moose and Nellie do not like it.  I do listen to foster mom when she says no.

Because I have been an outside dog, I will need someone to be patient with me and teach me manners.  But I listen well.  I love to chase the ball (I do not always bring it back) but will go after it.  Right now I like my foster mom to be outside with me (remember, I need to know I get to come back in the house).  I worry about being left behind.

I need a forever family that will let me be a part of your and learn the ropes of being able to enjoy a family inside.

Hi, FM here, oh my, Fred is a sweetie pie for sure, great personality and loves to be groomed.  I cut matts out of his hair and brushed him for two hours.  Cut his nails and he was a gem the entire time.

Fred has had an ear infection for a very long time and his ears are very sore - he has yeast and bacteria in them both.  Because it has gone so long it may take awhile for them to heal.  Two days on medicine and he feels better already.  Due to so many matts he has spots where his skin was infected so is being treated for that as well.  In a few days he will be much better.  I had to cut his hair down shorter than it should be in spots so......no laughing at the haircut!!

Fred will need to have a family willing to work with him on manners, but I think he will learn quickly. He eats and sleeps really well.  A few walks with all of us and he is doing great.  Today we tried a Gentle Leader and he was better.  He is full steam ahead and LOVES to walk.

If you are interested in this sweet adorable boy, please fill out an inquiry form and let me know, I would be so happy to find him his forever soon so he can settle in for the last time.

At the Vet appointment Fred's ears showed very good progress.  They cleaned his ears and put in more medication.  The hope is that his ear infection will be totally cleared up at his next appointment July 25.  Fred has started to wrestle with Snoop, so funny to watch!  This photo is blurred but they are moving around constantly, one time Snoop is on the ground and the next Fred.   I think we may have one sad black lab when Fred goes to his forever home!

Not much new this week.  Fred is just enjoying everything about summer!  One minute he is full of energy on a walk or chasing tennis balls in the house with Snoop, the next he is sleeping it off.  He really enjoys relaxation time on the deck with me and the resident dogs.  The Fourth of July was a non-event for him, he takes no notice of fireworks or storms.  Monday will be his next vet appointment.  We are hoping for good news on his ears, especially given his energy level.

Fred had his second treatment today and it went well.  They were able to clean his ears and apply more medication without sedation!!  And we can go two weeks before the next treatment.  He does seem more comfortable and perky, we are so glad to see the positive progression!

Saturday Fred went to Pet-a-Palooza.  He was so well behaved and got a lot of compliments on his high cute factor.  I would guess he has never seen so many dogs in one place and would love to know what he was actually thinking.  Another learning this week was the hammock.  I was spending some reading time in the hammock and he jumped up and in with me!  He is such a funny guy, he just laid down and sniffed the breeze from a little higher perspective.

Fred's ear infections were not resolved with the last treatment.  We saw a different vet and are now going with weekly ear cleanings plus application of topical medication while sedated.  This will happen 4 times.  Poor Fred was rather uncomfortable after the first treatment but the next day he had endless energy, racing around in circles and jumping about!  His morning walk worked a little of the new found energy out of him warranting some relaxation time.  I am keeping my fingers crossed for this new treatment!  More to come on that front early next week.

The best way I can put it is that Fred is loving life.  He has become comfortable enough that he does not cry when one of us leaves the house - hurrah!  He still protests a bit when we both leave but he is so happy when we return that he practically springs into the air. He likes to follow that with a hug session, he is so adorable!  He has picked up an interesting way to ask for the water dish to be filled, he goes to the kitchen sink and cries.  When I think of all he has learned about life in a house over just 6 weeks it is amazing, he is one smart guy!    We continue with the ear care recommended last week and will have a follow up next week to check progress.  We had family over for most of the day Sunday, when he hears someone he goes right to the front window to check out who is here.  It was an extra busy day for him with so many people to get attention from, they all thought he is just so cute!  As soon as the last person left, he went right to bed

Fred had his ear recheck and unfortunately continues to have problems.  The vet sedated him to do a thorough cleaning down past the ear drum.  He also confirmed that both ear drums are ruptured.  We have a new regimen of antibiotics oral and topical along with flushing his ears clean every three days.  We will go back to the vetin two weeks to see if this does the trick.     He still loves his daily walks and is very content to spend time outside with me when I work in the yard.  He got his first look at a horse on the trail, didn't seem to know what to make of it but he behaved himself.  We are making great progress on the commands of  down and come.   He takes a fish oil and Allergy pill daily to help with his coat and prevent future ear infections.  We put the pills in a small piece of hot dog so he easily takes this 'treat'.  We have also discovered that Fred loves to ride in the car.  If any car door opens, he will try to be the first one in regardless of the destination as the picture below was before our vet appointment.

Hi, FM here, Fred is really adapting well to life as a 'house' dog.  He is used to the household rhythm, goes out with the resident dogs and takes cues from Snoop as needed.  As the picture shows, he has taken over the love seat as his sleeping place.  Look at that smile!   He puts a lot of effort into making a nest out of the blankets:-).   He is making good progress at learning down and come, a little bit of sit. His ears are doing better, we will have a two week check up next week.  This little gentlemen loves hugs, he could not be sweeter!

Hi, Fred here.  I moved to my permanent foster home in Stillwater last week.  I was a little anxious the first 24 hours but soon got to know both resident dogs, Jackson and Snoop Dogg.  We are all getting along fine although they will correct me if I try to hump.  The walks on the Gateway trail are awesome, I behave better on the leash each day.  I like to go outside with the resident dogs so I do not feel alone.  We play ball in the yard, some great action pictures are attached plus one photo  of some cozy couch time with Snoop.

Hi, FM here.  Fred will go in for a recheck on his ear infection in the next couple days.  He is not happy when me or my husband leave the house but he is getting more accustomed to it and trusting that we will return.  Fred is such a cute dog, so affectionate,  and very smart.  He will need someone to spend time training him but I am sure he will be a quick learner.
