It’s been over ten months since we adopted Sweet Sammy, and this update is long overdue! Sam is napping with us right now as we type but has given us a basic outline of what to include here. Sam is a total sweetheart who is a mellow fellow, but energetic at all the right times – a perfect balance. We are so blessed to share his Golden Life with him! Sam has full reign in his new home and takes complete advantage of resting on every plush surface. Surfing from couch to couch and bed each day, he sleeps in bed with us every night leaving us little room for our own bodies, but we love it. Sam is a heavy snuggler who loves being with us, and the feeling is mutual!
We frequently work from home, and on those days, Sam brings his bone to work, under the desk. He is a hard worker! On the days we are away, when we return, Sam always meets us at the door with great exuberance, and then runs to his toy box to grab a bone or a stuffed buddy. Often, he’ll let us know how much he’s missed us with a long howl.
In Sam’s leisure time, he enjoys longs walks, sniffing and playing in the backyard, digging up gopher tunnels (a true U of M fan!), car rides where he often lets his flow fly, eating tomatoes fresh from the garden, carrots, treats, and chewing bones. Sam LOVES sitting on the couch looking out the window always letting us know about perimeter activity. He’s a big fan of movie night when we all enjoy popcorn. He also loves going for trips up north to the lake where he goes for boat rides, nature walks and wades in the water.
Sam even loves trips to the vet for his wellness exams. The vet and vet assistants love him commenting on how chill he is. He’s a very calm, excellent patient and is in great health! He still gets very excited when we see other dogs or bikers on walks, and we continue to work with him on that. While Sam tolerates a shower every now and then, he RELISHES being brushed often – he just loves being petted, rubbed and brushed. He is the softest buddy known to man – severe touchability!
Sam has a special indicator – his tongue! We know just how relaxed he is by how far it sticks out of the left side of his mouth. See one of the pictures as an example. The more tongue you see, the more relaxed he’ll be! Sam also knows just what to do when one of us is under the weather – he sticks right by our side suspending any requests for attention, making sure we are well cared for until we’re 100%. As soon as he knows we’re back to normal, he’ll resume gently pawing us for rubs.
Sam has brought us so much joy and love! We are so grateful for RAGOM and thank all of the volunteers who helped Sam come into our lives to continue to live the Golden Life. Sam will be one of the many ambassadors at Goldzilla 2017. Please find him and say “hi!” as Sam loves humans so much!
