Linus 14-344

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
10/21/2014  Not required  Ages 8+ Optional  Needs testing
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Linus is a healthy, active two-year-old Golden Retriever mix with a sweet disposition. He weighs 49 pounds, and is neutered and up-to-date with vaccinations. He does not have a tail; it appears to have been docked as a puppy. He gets along well with other dogs and seeks attention from humans. Although he is sweet as sugar and kid-friendly, we want to place him in a home with no kids under 8 years old to give him some peace, since he came from a breeder/hoarder. He has not been tested with cats.

His main need, in addition to love, is exercise and activity, whether that be playing with another dog, jogging or hiking, daily trips to a dog park, etc. He is playful with balls and other dogs, enjoys riding in a vehicle, and probably would love to swim, if given the chance. Linus loves to be with you – he follows me around the house, but is careful not to be in my way, and lays calmly off to the side or plays quietly and chews a bone. He absolutely melts if you sweet talk to and pet him. He does not get on furniture or into the garbage, is house-trained, sleeps on a dog bed, and has free roam. He barks when strangers pass by the house.

Linus wants to fit in and spends a lot of time watching what is going on. He is a quick study, learning what is and is not okay. Although he has chewed some inappropriate items, he is immediately responsive when told that was not okay, and accepts being redirected to a Nylabone. This is where exercise plays an important role with a young dog -- "a tired dog is a good dog." Linus is going to make a great dog for some lucky family!

Every year since we've gotten Linus (14-344) we have done professional pictures at a local humane society fundraiser. This year's turned out quite handsome. We thank Choke Cherry Photography in Brookings SD for this year's picture.

'Pupdate': Linus has been enjoying this year as we continue hiking, biking and competing. Linus still loves to learn new things and has earned a few obedience (Preferred Companion Dog, Beginner Novice, and Novice Obedience), rally (Rally Intermediate and Rally Advanced), and trick dog (Trick dog Novice) titles this year! We continue to take classes at local training clubs to keep him sharp and he loves to work and the one on one time with us.

We love everything about him as he is the perfect velcro dog, a great snuggler, compassionate listener, and just the best dog we could ask for! Thank you RAGOM for our 'bubba'.

We can hardly believe that we are coming up to Linus’s two year anniversary with our family! In that time he has had so many adventures with us and is blossoming into a wonderful family member that welcomes us home with a wagging back end every day!

In his time with us so far, Linus has become a volunteer for RAGOM as well, and has been doing some home visits as well as being an ambassador at the Meet and Greets. He has quickly figured out that everyone has treats to share, and he will (shamelessly) beg by sitting. He has met a lot of friends, and it is reaffirming his confidence in meeting new people. We love being able to give back and spread the word about RAGOM, as we found out about this organization from a local meet and greet.

We have also been very active in dog sports, trying out many different things to find out what Linus loves and wants to work in. We have done agility, rally-obedience, and general obedience. Linus achieved his Canine Good Citizen title at the end of last year, and we have found that he loves to do the obedience style of training.  We have taken a few Rally classes and Linus earned his Rally Novice title in October! We are very proud of his hard work, and are going to continue on the Rally path before exploring more options. He also enjoys retriever training with Dad.

In the home, Linus is a wonderful companion, he loves to be where you are. Whether that is snuggled up in the recliner with us, or laying nearby as Mom sews. He is laid back and calm. We added a new four legged family member, and they love to play and rough house together. We are constantly out hiking in the state parks and city parks nearby, and Linus loves to follow his nose to all the good smells out and about.

Thank you RAGOM, for the wonderful dog!

Hello RAGOM! We just wanted to send a quick update on Linus.

The first few days home were a new adventure. He was very cautious around us, and loud noises scared him easily. However, we just took things slow and after a couple weeks he has transformed into the wonderful and confident pup that fills our home with joy!

Now, a little over a month of having Linus, we have a pretty steady routine down for a lot of adventures. We live close to a state park, and he loves to go for romps out there once a day… sometimes twice!

We also go to the dog park on Fridays to keep up with our socialization. He loves a good game of chase, and it is so much fun to watch him zoom around! With spring weather returning, the dog park is getting muddy, so usually bath day is also Friday ;)

We are scheduled to start obedience classes this Saturday, and we are sure that he is going to do great. At our home, he has picked up on so much already. He has learned ‘Sit, Lie Down, & Look at Me’ and executes them consistently, even with distractions.

We are so thankful to everyone at RAGOM, the volunteers, fosters, and transporters. Especially Foster Mom & Dad for doing such a great job starting his journey in the Golden Life. Linus has really been a wonderful addition to our family!

Linus did well meeting the public at the Duluth Petco during RAGOM’s Meet & Greet last week. He especially enjoyed attention from the kids. He is not quite sure about adult strangers, but warms up quickly. With more social experiences, he should begin to trust more easily.

Our main interest in a potential match for Linus is to find a family that can give him lots of exercise (jogging/walking/hiking partner and/or another dog that connects well for playing with Linus). We also think he would love and excel at obedience training.

Linus is a young, medium size (49 pounds) Golden/Labrador Retriever/ ? breed dog in perfect health. We are enjoying his companionship with lots of loving and snuggles. If you’d like to talk with us about Linus, let your Placement Advisor know.

Did I mention what a WONDERFUL dog Linus is? He is so sweet and does everything you want him to. He is calm inside. He is smarter than average, but doesn’t try to dominate other dogs or you. He has super soft ears. He loves to play and run. He went in for his wellness exam last week and not only is nothing wrong with him, but the Vet actually said his health is perfect.

If you’d like to meet this great dog, come to RAGOM’s Meet & Greet at Duluth Petco on Sunday, January 4, from 12 noon to 2 pm. You can also ask your Placement Advisor to connect us (Foster Parents & You) to answer questions.
