Hi, I'm Maggie, a purebred Golden Retriever. I am about 65 lbs, potty trained, micro chipped, and have all of my shots. I am also up to date on flea and Heart worm preventative medications. I do not have any health issues and I love big people, little people, cats and dogs. I really like to play with other dogs so I would like my new home to have another large dog to play with. If you do not have another large dog that likes to play, that's ok but I will want to play with you for several hours a day or go to a place like a doggy day care where I can play. Please read my foster parents notes below and if you are interested in meeting me in person, contact your RAGOM Placement Advisor.

Maggie was surrendered to RAGOM and came to our home on April  25th. The Surrendering Owner (SO) made the difficult decision to surrender Maggie after her other dog tore an ACL and had surgery last year. The ligaments were not healing because Maggie and the other dog were constantly playing and the SO could not keep the other dog quiet and resting. SO's vet recently warned that if she could not keep her dog from playing that more costly surgery would be required. The SO took excellent care of Maggie. She trained her with the commands: sit, stay, leave it, down, and to give high fives. The command heel while walking on a leash is a work in progress. Maggie eats high quality grain free food by Blue Buffalo Wilderness and her new owners should maintain this diet. She is very sweet but can be a little shy in new situations. She needs a few minutes to warm up when she meets new people and dogs but after the warming up period she bonds very quickly. She is very calm inside the house and does not chew inappropriate items, have any storm or separation anxieties or resource guarding issues with humans or other dogs. She grew up on a horse farm and had contact with animals of all sorts. When we walk her, she does not pull on the leash but she zig-zags left and right and wants to stop and smell all of the new city smells she has never experienced. Maggie does not need a fence; she was allowed free roam in the horse pastures while walking with the SO and at our house she uses a tie out. She is crate trained, which is where we keep her during work hours but we have no reason to believe she needs to be crated. Maggie likes to keep close to her humans and sleep in her human family's bed. She will snuggle with you for a few minutes and then will go down and lie at the foot of the bed without being told. I assume the SO taught her to do this. Finally, Maggie loves to play with toys and other large dogs. She has always lived with another large dog and she would prefer one in her new home. In summary, we feel that Maggie needs the following in her new "furever" home:

  1. Lots of love and attention
  2. Commitment to feeding her a high quality dog food
  3. Continuation of her training while walking on a leash
  4. Lots of exercise and play time with another dog
  5. Humans that don't mind her snuggling in their bed

Updates

Sunday, May 2, 2021

Hi everyone, this is Maggie just checking in with an update. My gotcha day is coming up again, and that means I have been in my forever home for seven years now, and I am eight years old! The years have gone really fast and I have had so much fun! I am still having fun every day!

The lake is still my favorite place to be because I love to swim, hike in the woods, go on ATV rides and boat rides, see many animals and run and play. We do have really fun trails to hike on when we are at home, too, though—and we have bunnies, ducks, geese and herons to watch there, too!

My bestie dog friends are still my sister, Oreo, and my niece dog, Lucy. I have mentioned in past updates that Lucy comes for daycare all the time. We all love each other. Now the vet told Lucy she has a bad heart, and she is on medicine to help her heart work better. Lucy doesn’t act like she has a bad heart!

I am a really happy girl, and I get my silly “happy fits” every day. Mom and Dad always say, “Maggie, are you happy?” I act silly and then Oreo barks her happy barks.

My name is Maggie (Maggie May), but Dad and Mom also call me Margaret, Miss Margaret, Baby, Big Red, Happy Girl and sometimes Madge! I know all of my names!

I think RAGOM found a good forever home for me, and I am glad they helped me!

Here are some pictures of me!!

Hi Everyone in RAGOM Land,

This is Maggie, and I noticed my Mom turned our calendar to May. That means it's time to write about myself. My middle name is May, so when the calendar gets to that month, I know it's time to write an update. You see, I was adopted in May--on May 10, 2014. When I first got adopted, I was a little uncertain, but very soon I found out that I was going to stay here forever and I grew to love it here very quickly.

I love my Dad and Mom, and my doggie friends are my sister, Oreo, and my niece, Lucy, who still comes to be with us for Doggy Daycare. We all like being together. We love the fun places we go to walk every day when we are at home. It might sound odd, but we also love to drive through the big cemetery here because there are always lots of deer and wild turkeys to look at.

It's even better when we go to the lake, which we do all year long. I am such a good swimmer! Oreo is a good swimmer, too, but Lucy won't let her feet get off the bottom. She's so weird--it's FUN to swim into the deep water.

We love to go hiking at the lake! The deer, squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks keep us occupied, too, but Dad and Mom say we have to watch out for the black bear who has been hanging around. The Jeep is our favorite vehicle, because we go really fun places in it. Oh, wait, I like the four-wheeler even better!!  We all come running when Mom asks us if we want to go on the Ranger!!

My Dad and Mom always say I am so bonded, whatever that means. I think it means I always love to be right where they are. We are together all day every day. I sleep with them every night, and I think it's strange that Oreo really doesn't choose to be up in bed with us, except when she jumps up to get loved up in the morning. Sometimes she even sleeps in a different room!!! That's crazy!!!

Anyway, I am a really happy girl and I am glad that RAGOM helped me find a new home when that needed to happen. I hope you enjoy the pictures of me and my friends, below. I will write again next year!

Love,

Maggie

Hi RAGOMland,

It's Maggie again. Mom told me it was time to write an update, because my Gotcha Day is May 10. Yup, it was back in 2014 that I came to live in my forever home. Those five years have gone so fast!

There is nothing much new to report except that my parents tell me that I am getting the beginnings of a sugar face because I am so doggone sweet. My family is still the same--me, my dad and mom, my dog sister Oreo and my niece dog Lucy (who still comes for doggy daycare). We dogs love each other, and we love to play and do things together.

I really am a Velcro girl, though, and I always want to be near where Mom and Dad are. I hardly ever have to be away from them, and I'm glad about that. Although I love the snow, I am also very happy that now the ice is gone from the lake and I can go swimming again!!

I love my life, and I am a happy girl who gets the zoomies a lot when I am feeling especially joyful, which is at least several times a day!

Like I said, there's really not much new, but I wanted everyone to know I am still fine and I'm still a happy girl having fun!

Love,

Maggie

Hi Everybody in RAGOM Land!

I thought it was time to write about me again, because as of May 10, 2018, I have been in my forever home for four years.  I turned five years old in January.  I still have my fur sister, Oreo, and we love to play together.  My fur niece, Lucy, still comes all the time for doggy daycare and then we all three have fun.

There is nothing much new in my life, but that's OK with me because I still love all the things we do and I never get tired of them.  My favorite place to be is at the lake. Whether it is winter and we are playing in the snow, or summer and we are swimming, hiking, four-wheeling, pontooning or doing other fun things, I love it at the lake!

I am such a Velcro girl, and I always like to be near my Dad and Mom.  I sleep in bed with them every night and I like it that way.  I am hardly ever away from my Dad and Mom!  But am a good girl, too, if they do have to leave us dogs alone now and then.  I love to give "high fives", get "the happies", help my Mom in the kitchen, and go for rides. I am just a happy girl who loves life!  I am glad that RAGOM helped me find a new home when I needed one!

I've included some pictures of me!

Love,

Maggie

Hi Everybody, this is Maggie again.  I'm a four-year old now, and I have been in my forever home for three years!!  Yup, May 10 is my three-year "Gotcha Day".  The time has gone fast.  I think back to the day I first left my foster home with my new Dad and Mom, and remember I was sort of scared.  I was changing homes again, and I was worried--but I was brave.  But it all worked out!!

I still have my fur sister, Oreo, who came to live with us about a month after me.  We are the best of friends!!  And I have my friend Lucy, my two legger sister's fur baby, who comes to us for doggy daycare.  Boy, do I get happy every day when Lucy arrives!  I am not afraid to show my happiness, either.  Every morning, I get my morning happies.  Mom lets me and Oreo outside to do our business, and as soon as we come in I streak through the house as fast as I can, with Oreo right behind me, to go find my Dad in the bedroom.  Then we run back out, grab stuffies, and I run around in silly circles, pull my ears back just right, and get the zoomies.  I am so happy every morning!!  Mom always says, "Are you happy, Maggie?"  And then we get to eat.  Yippee!!

I am really bonded to Dad and Mom, and I like to be with them.  I like to be outside, too, but I always want to come inside often to check on Dad and Mom.  Oreo likes to be outside all day long now that the weather is nice, and she doesn't seem to think she needs to check on Mom and Dad, she just likes to be watching for critters.  I like to do that, too, but I also have to make sure Dad and Mom are OK.  And at night I sleep up in bed with them all night long.  I stay at the bottom in my own spot until I hear them waking up in the morning.  Then I come up closer so they can pet me and love me (and I give them some kisses).  Oreo doesn't want to sleep up in bed with us. She likes to sleep on one of the dog beds in the bedroom, or even out in the living room sometimes!!  I can't imagine that!!  I would never want to be in another room from my parents!!

Every day is fun for me.  I'm glad that the ice is off the lake again so now we can swim!  But I did love to play in the snow in the winter, too. We always love going for our daily walks, and me, Oreo and Lucy love to run, wrestle and play together.  We enjoy keeping an eye on the chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels (and we would like to catch them).  Of course, we still like going for rides on the Ranger ATV, and we get really excited to go for evening Jeep rides and see deer, wild turkeys, geese, swans, rabbits, squirrels and other dogs.  We never get tired of all these things.

I'm a happy girl, and I like to be a little goofy, too.  Dad and Mom call me their goofy baby brain and I make them laugh a lot.  I'm a long, tall girl, too, and they call me their runway model.  I love it when they tell me how much they love me, because I love them so much, too!  I am so glad I got to be a RAGOM girl and they helped me when I needed a new family!

There are some pictures of me below.

Love,

Maggie May

Hi RAGOM Friends,

It’s Maggie again, and I can’t believe I’ve celebrated another “Gotcha Day” in my furever home!  Yup, the day I became a part of my new family was May 10, 2014.  The two years have gone so fast!

I sort of wanted to have some exciting new news of some type, but I don’t.  Things are the same in my family, but I’m not complaining because me and my sister Oreo love all the same things that we always do!  We love our Dad and Mom being home with us all the time, we like going on errands, we love living at the lake almost all the time and we love to go on long hikes.  Walks in the snow are so much fun, and now we get to swim in the lake again, ride in the Ranger ATV, spend lots of time on squirrel, bunny and chipmunk patrol, go on the pontoon boat, and go for a ride looking for deer and other animals every evening.  We like doing all of those things!  My niece dog, Lucy, still joins us for Doggy Daycare all the time, and us three girls have so much fun running, wrestling and playing together!

Best of all, my Dad and Mom love me big time!  I like it when they ask me, “Are you happy, Maggie?” When they ask me that I get real silly and I do the happy zoomies in the house.  I like it when they tell me they love me and I make them happy.  I feel so good when they tell me they are so glad that I came to live with them!  Me and my sister Oreo love our home, and Lucy likes coming for Daycare.

I’ll include some pictures of me, Oreo and Lucy, below.

‘Til next time,

Maggie May (AKA Margaret, Miss Margaret, Big Red)

Hi, Maggie May here.  Wow!!  It's been a whole year since I was adopted into my furever family!!  Yup, I hopped into our van with my new Dad and Mom on May 10, 2014 and headed off to my new home.  The year has gone so fast, and I am all used to my new family now.  I love my Dad, my Mom and my fur sister, Oreo, and they all love me.  Lucy still comes for doggy daycare, too, and we all have fun.

I know all of our routines now.  I love being with my family all of the time, and we do everything together.  My favorite place to be is at the lake, and we were there about half of the time all winter.  Boy, did us dogs love our long winter walks in the woods!!  I love the snow!!  Now that spring is here, we live at the lake most of the time, and there is so much for us to do here.  We can swim again (yippee!!), we can take our long walks (horray!!), we can ride in the Ranger ATV again (goodie!!), we can be on squirrel and chipmunk patrol (so much fun!!).  Soon the pontoon boat will be in the lake again (oh, boy!!).

One fun new thing at the lake is that we got our very own dog park!  Yup, Dad and Mom had a fence put up so us dogs can run, play and wrestle to our hearts' content.  You see, I am a good girl, and I stay right near Mom and Dad when I am off-leash, but Oreo and Lucy would run too far away if they got off their tie-outs.  So now we have a fence and we can all be loose!!  We love our dog park at the lake!!

Every night I sleep up in the bed with Dad and Mom.  I am really a polite girl and I stay at the foot end of the bed until it's time to wake up in the morning.  Then I move up for cuddle time.  Oreo is weird.  She prefers to sleep on one of our soft dog beds on the bedroom floor, but she does come up in the morning for cuddling with the rest of us.

My life is fun, my Mom and Dad love me, and I am very happy.  Dad and Mom always tell me I am so beautiful, that I am such a good girl, and they love me so much.  They smile and laugh at me a lot, and say I am a silly, goofy, girl.  Sometimes they call me "Miss Margaret May".  I guess I have made them very happy!  I'm so glad that my other Mom let RAGOM help find me a new home when I needed one.  Thank you, RAGOM, and all the volunteers who helped me!

I have sent a few pictures of me.  I hope you like them.

Love,

Maggie May

Here I am....Miss Maggie May.

Me and Oreo never miss a chance to ride in the Ranger!!

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Wow, I think it's about time for me to do another update.  It's me, Maggie May, and everything is still going really well for me in my new home.  Every day there's always Dad and Mom and me and my fur sister, Oreo.  Then Lucy comes for doggy daycare while her mom is at work, plus they sleep over with us two nights a week!!  All three of us girls really love each other, we hang out together and we play and play together.  We all like to be wherever Mom and Dad are, too.

Dad and Mom got DNA testing done on all of us, whatever that is.  All I know is that one day we all got our cheeks scraped, and then we found out that we are all sort of the same kind of dog!!  We are all "mixes"!!  You see, Dad and Mom said they wondered about my different eyes (they are a beautiful amber color), my long, lean and lanky frame, and a few other things about my looks and personality.  They were curious if I was really a "purebred Golden Retriever".  They didn't care, but they were just interested in what else I might have in me.  So we all three got our DNA tested.  It turns out I am mostly Golden Retriever but I also have some Labrador Retriever for sure, and Whippet, German Shepherd Dog, and English Setter also showed up.  Oreo is half "purebred German Shorthaired Pointer", but the other half of her has Border Collie, Coonhound (no wonder she has such an annoying bark), Shetland Sheepdog and Golden Retriever!!!  Lucy is mostly Bulldog (American), plus German Shepherd Dog and Alaskan Malamute.  Anyway, we sure love each other and we all like doing the same things.  We are all re-homed/rescued dogs, and we are all glad we got in the same forever family!!

We love our daily hikes, swimming (except Lucy only runs and splashes and won't let her feet get off the bottom), riding on the Ranger ATV, going on the pontoon (but now we put that away 'cause Mom and Dad said winter is coming), watching for the chipmunk and the squirrels, and exploring new country back roads.  The chipmunk drives us all nuts.  He has been really busy gathering seeds from under the bird feeders, and I think he knows just how far our tie-outs can let us go.  He sits really close to us and stuffs his cheeks and looks at us!!  We also love visiting our Grandma Gladys very often because she really likes us all and gives us little pieces of liverwurst (we call it "liverbest").  We really run fast into her house when we visit and sit right down for our treat!

I'm so glad that my other Mom let RAGOM help me find a new home when I needed one.  I am glad that my foster Mom and Dad (and foster fur brother) took such good care of me until I found my forever home.  Wow, RAGOM is a really great rescue group!!  I want all of you to know that I am happy and I have a really busy, fun life.

Below are some pictures of me, Oreo and Lucy.

Bye for now,

Maggie May

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Hi everybody, it's me again, Maggie May.  I have been in my new home about two months now, and things are really going great!  I have really big news, too.  A little over two weeks ago, a new dog came to stay with us for a while.  Her name is Oreo.  The dad she had is my dad's cousin, and he and his wife both got some really bad health problems so they couldn't take care of Oreo anymore.  They were really sad.  Mom and Dad said Oreo could come and stay with us while they arranged to find a good rescue that could take Oreo and find her a good home.  So she came to stay on June 22.  Oreo told me that one time she lived in some kind of jail for about six weeks.  It was called a shelter and she was very sad there .  Then one day my dad's cousin and his wife came and chose her to come and be their dog.  She was so happy there, but now she needed a new home, just like what happened to me!

Wow!!  Oreo is a fun girl!!  She and I hit it off right away, and we played and played.  After Oreo had stayed with us for two days, I asked Mom and Dad if please...pretty please....could Oreo stay with us forever and be my real, forever sister?!  Mom and Dad said YES!!  So now I have a sister!!!!!  (My friend Lucy still comes over, too, but not every day for doggy daycare like during the school year, because her mom works in a school and is on vacation now.  When Lucy does come over, we all get along.)
Oreo likes to do everything that I like to do.  We play wrestle, we tug and run along beside each other holding stuffies (and we have never had even the slightest cross word), we love riding between Mom and Dad on the Ranger ATV, we love going for pontoon boat rides, we both love to swim, we love to go on long hikes, it's fun lying out on the deck watching for squirrels and chipmunks, and we love going on "deer rides" in the evening.  That's when we drive really slow on country roads and we each get to have our head out of a window looking for deer, bunny rabbits, fox, geese, and all kinds of wildlife.  We are learning all the animal names, too.  At bedtime, we are both really tired!!
The 4th of July was a really fun week-end!  Our relatives who have the place next to us at the lake had their reunion, and there were over 35 people and 8 dogs at their place!!  Almost all of the dogs are rescue dogs, and Oreo and I loved all of them and they liked us, too.  Lucy and another family dog, Gracie, were staying with us.  All 12 of us dogs really had fun!!!  It was a wild week-end, and even the fireworks didn't bother me or Oreo.
Last night I went to Beginning Obedience for the first time.  I was a little goofy, but Mom and Dad said I "wasn't the worst one" so I think that means I did a good job.  I really wanted to meet all of the dogs, though, instead of "heeling" and doing other boring stuff all the time!

Now I'll show you some pictures of me and my new forever sister, Oreo.  Don't we look cute together?

We are watching a chipmunk going up in a tree!

Wrestling is so much fun!!

I love being all wet!!

It's fun going on a pontoon ride.

Until next time.......Maggie May

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Hi Everybody, it's me...Maggie.  I've been adopted and now I'm Maggie May, and I'm in my furever home!  So far I really like it here.  My dad and mom are with me all the time, and we do fun things all day!  They said they used to work, but now they don't have to because they are tired or something.  But they don't seem tired to ME!  They keep me so busy, and by bedtime, I'M the one who is tired!

I have a place at the lake, and that's where we have been living most of the time since I was adopted on May 10.  Dad and Mom told me we will be here most of the time this summer, but we will come here all year long for at least a few days every week because it's lots of fun in the other seasons, too.  There's so much to do here!!  There's a lake to swim in anytime (and fetch!!), there are trails in the woods to hike on (Dad and Mom said they have cut four miles of hiking trails for me), and there is a small gravel road near our place that's a lot of fun, too.  That road has a sign that says, "Minimum Maintenance Road, Travel at Your Own Risk."  Dad and Mom said that means, " this is a really good road for dogs to walk on."  We hike somewhere every day for a long time, and there are always places where I can stop and swim when we are hiking!  I LOVE to swim, and I also love to jump and frolic in more shallow water.  Mom said I look like a frisky filly and it always makes her laugh!  When we aren't at the lake, then we are at my other house in a town.  It's fun there, too, because there are some really neat parks and walking paths that Mom and Dad take me to.

I have a really good new friend.  Her name is Lucy.  We love to play, play, play.  Lucy is Mom and Dad's granddog, and she comes for doggy day care for 10 hours every work day, plus she and her mom stay overnight with us two nights a week at the lake.  Lucy likes to give me kisses, so I can tell she loves me, and I love her so much, too.  Wow, do we have fun together!  You can see her with me on some of the pictures.  I also have a friend named Lily.  She is an Aussie, and we like to play, too.  Her mom and dad are good friends of my mom and dad, so I will get to play with her often.  This week-end was busy, with other family dogs at the lake and I liked all of them.  There were five of us girls together at once for a while.  So far all the dogs I have met have wanted to play with me.  Lucky me!!

There are lots of other things I like to do.  I love to go for rides in the funny little car called the Ranger.  Lucy and I get to sit between Dad and Mom and ride along with the breeze in our faces and we smell so many good smells!  Lying out on the deck watching boats, loons, chipmunks, squirrels and the birds at the feeders is so much fun.  On our hikes I have seen deer, turtles, horses, geese and ducks.  They are all very interesting to me, and sometimes I bark at them.   I also love to cuddle on the bed with Dad and Mom.  Lucy likes it, too, so sometimes our bed is a little crowded, but we all like it.  I like to dig holes now and then, too, and I have helped a little bit with landscaping in the yard  ;)

My dad and mom tell me I am making them so happy.  They used to have a golden named Shayna, but she had to go to the Rainbow Bridge in January.  Since then, dad and mom have been sad.  They had Lucy to help them, but they said they needed a girl or boy of their very own to bring back smiles and happiness in their home.  It was too quiet and lonely for them.  Well, I came along and fixed that all up for them!!  I know I make them happy because they laugh at me a lot and tell me how good I am and how much they love me.

I really love my new mom and dad.  I loved the mom I had before, too, but I had to become a RAGOM dog because my fur brother had surgery on his leg and I wouldn't quit playing so it could heal.  I hope it's healing better now!  My other mom wrote a lot about me and sent it with me when I came to RAGOM.  She also sent a soft, pretty blanket with horse heads on it.  My new mom and dad put it on one of my dog beds.  If my other mom reads this, I would like her to know that I am happy, and I love my new mom and dad so much, but I still love her, too.  I have a really big heart, and I have room for all of them in it!  I loved my foster mom, dad and fur brother, too, and I am so glad that they helped find me a furever home!  Wow!! Am I ever lucky!  So many people like me!!

That's enough for now!
