Look at this adorable boy!! He becomes more puppy like every day! In this picture he is politely waiting for me to throw his favorite toy so he can tear across the room after it. He came to us so quiet, reserved and timid. Now he is a fun-loving, toy tossing, ball playing, tail wagging, puppy-like six year old! Alfie still has some issues, but they are things that will work themselves out with even more socialization and training. He has shown us that he wants so badly to please his people. He learns quickly. He is still reactive with other dogs, I am anxious for Spring so we can resume our long walks around the lake and more exposure for Alphie boy. I wish that his pictures would show just how adorable he is. He really gets cuter every single day! His tail wag is something to behold!! He will lay on the couch and as my husband approaches, each individual step gets a thump. It is so cute to watch him as he anticipates some attention from FD! This is a boy that is so worth meeting and so worthy of much love and a special forever home! If you would like to meet our Alphie boy, let your Placement Advisor know. We are planning to be at the Shakopee eventon Saturday.

Here is a picture of Alfie and his Foster-brother, Stanley. Alfie and Stanley are doing so well together. Alfie came to us with so little socialization, it is so great to see him doing so well with his fur-brother! Alfie has made a lot of great strides lately. He is playing ball, chasing it, tossing it in the air and having a great time. He plays with his FD outside, running and playing like a puppy! He also has become so affectionate. He wants to be right on my lap or FD's. He nudges for pets and puts his head on Dad's lap. It has been and still is such a pleasure to see him turning into such a warm, loving, playful boy! If you want to meet him, tell your Placement Advisor!

Hi Everyone, Alfie here! Is everyone staying warm in Ragom-land? I am doing pretty well outside, mostly because a very nice (and pretty) lady let FM borrow a coat for me. I love to put it on, go outside, and strut my stuff! I have been told that it makes me very handsome! What do you think?
So, did you notice that green thing I am holding? That is a toy!! He is a dinosaur, I call him Greenie! My Foster Grandma gave it to me for Christmas! Foster Mom and I play with him all the time! She throws and I run to wherever it lands. Then, I look at and wait for FM to come, pick it up, and throw it again so I can chase it. I am getting so good at this fetch game! I also like to toss it in the air, roll it around and just have fun. This toy thing is awesome!
It has been so cold outside that we don't get out as much as we used to. I know that it is really hard for my FM to take me outside, so I am extra patient and well behaved. That is just the kind of guy I am!
Since we are inside so much, we have been working on a few things. FM tells me to sit, shows me a treat and makes me wait to come and get it. I know her, she is definitely going to give me that treat, so I just wait patiently. It really isn't very difficult to make her happy!!
FM says that the issue we still need to work on is my on-leash interaction with other dogs. Who, me?! I love other dogs! I do like to get a little snarky with them occasionally, though. I didn't see many dogs in the past so I am still working on that. I will get there, though!
I am excited to see lots of people at the next dog party! I will be there ready for lots of pets, hugs and kisses!

Hello, Alfie here! Wow, it has been a busy and eventful few weeks! I met a really nice couple at one of those parties (I used to think they were just for me, now I think they are for all of us dogs). This couple thought I was pretty cool so they took me home with them. It was fun to be at a new place, but very different from my foster house. I discovered that I really like being able to sleep on the couch when I am home alone and, even though my foster brother, Stanley, and I, don't chat much, it helps me feel less anxious when he is here. My foster Mom walks with a cane and she doesn't go to work like Foster Dad. I think I have gotten really used to having someone at home a lot and I like it!! I am so glad that I met such nice people. I really love them and am so glad that I had 2 whole weeks of vacation with them!
FM says that it is time to start looking for my forever home and that maybe it looks a little different than we first thought. I am looking forward to meeting more wonderful people like Pat and Dan. My FM says that "every new experience, every new person, every new smell and lots and lots of pets and kisses are the things that will prepare me for my Forever Home". I know I missed out on a lot of life and lessons that I need to learn, so I am learning them now.
If you think that you might like to meet me and, just maybe, go on this journey of learning with me, either tell your Placement Advisor (I am getting so good at Ragom talk) or come and see me at the Edina Event on Sat. 1/18! I will be the thin, handsome fella, getting more handsome everyday!
From FM: Alfie was adopted and it didn't work out. He was with an absolutely wonderful family, but their needs just did not meet. Alfie comes from 6 years of almost no socialization with either people or dogs. This has resulted in some anxiety for him, in different circumstances. Alfie did not do well baby gated in a room while home alone. At our house, Alfie is still a bit jumpy and anxious, but he has made huge strides. I think Alfie would do well somewhere that he would have free roam when left alone, where he would not be left alone for a full 9 to 10 hour day and with someone who is very comfortable dealing with a dog who is just learning to be socialized and still remains anxious in some situations. Because we have been doing this for a while, I believe Alfie responds very well to our very calm demeanor when interacting with him. If he senses anxiety, he will react in kind.
He is a sweet, loving, funny, quirky, adorable and amazing boy. Like he said, come and meet him!

Alfie's FM here! I think it's time for me to speak up about this really special boy! Everyday he comes out of his shell a bit more. He came to us frightened, thin and sad. He has no appetite issues now! He loves his food and eats so well! He is filling out so well and his coat is getting fuller by the day. Along with food, he has grown to love pets and attention. He comes to us throughout the day for lots of love. Unlike other fosters we have had, he loves men. He absolutely adores his foster Dad. When FD gets up first in the morning, Alfie will wake me up to open the door for him so he can say good morning! He just needs a good morning kiss on the snout and some pets, then he will go back to sleep. He is such a love! He has recently learned more and more about how to play. He will chase after a ball, along with his fur-brother, he just doesn't bring it back yet. We are working on it, though!
Alfie spent the weekend with a wonderful couple, Ragom volunteers, while we were out of town. They had friends and family over along with other dogs. They said Alfie did really well! He was warm and welcoming to the guests, both 2 and 4 legged! We were so glad to hear that he did so well! We are proud of our boy! Alfie was not exposed, at all, to other dogs, before he came to us. He also was not at all familiar with being on a leash, so he has exhibited some leash aggression, but we are working on that! Once he is off leash, these issues almost disappear. We spend time in an enclosed dog play area where we live, and he does really well with the other dogs. Yesterday he ran and played with a new friend until he was all worn out. It was a wonderful sight for this FM!
If you would like to meet this quirky, funny, loving and wonderful boy, talk to your Placement Advisor. Also, will be at the Mpls. Event on 12/14 and would love to see you!

Hello, Alfie here!! Wow, it has been an exciting week! It started with a big party at a wonderful place called "Chuck 'n Don's." There were so many nice people and dogs! FM said we were there for me! I liked most of the dogs, but did snarl at a couple. I am not used to being around so many other dogs; I need my personal space!
After the party we got to go outside, walk around, and call out for a dog named Eddie. Apparently, he did not realize that he had hit the foster-home jackpot and he ran away. I bet after a few cushy days in his new place, he is sticking close to home!!
I was pretty nervous here at first, but now I have totally settled in. Not that things don't make me jump, the world is still pretty new to me! The big machine that sucks my crumbs out of the carpet, what is that all about!!? It is hungrier than I am! I still like to try and bury some of my food; old habits die hard. But, I am getting there!
I have learned to sit, to come to my name, and how to be respectful when I bark. I am not too excited about treats or toys, yet, but that will come.
FM says that I am going to make a family really, really happy! I think she is right. I have learned that I LOVE to be petted, have my ears rubbed, and will follow my people around until they do it!! I wasn't so sure about the little people I see on walks; they always want to pet me. Can you blame them, I am cuuuuute!!!
I think that my new home would be nice if I had another dog, like Stanley, to help me learn the dog stuff I have missed. Some of those little people would be OK, just not too little. Sometimes I forget and jump up.
FM says that we are going to another dog party this weekend, same place! If you want to see my handsome face and soak up my winning personality, come to Shakopee and meet me!!

Hey Everyone - Alfie here! I know it has only been a few days, but things are changing quickly around here. First of all, a couple of days ago, my tail started to wag and really hasn't stopped! I have learned so many things, all good! The best part is that I know just what to do to get FM and FD to give me all kinds of pets and kisses! I have them so figured out!!
One thing I know for sure, if I walk up to FM and lick her in the face, she gets all kinds of excited! She doesn't even care that, usually, it occurs to me to do this while I have fresh pieces of kibble on my tongue! Whatever trips your trigger FM! I have also learned that these people pay an awful lot of attention to my potty habits! They talk about my poop a lot! There is one word that FM told FD and they practically threw a party!! That word was "solid". I don't know much about that word, I just know things are going just fine in that area and we should all stop talking about it! In addition, I now know that, if I put my butt on the ground for the word "sit", I get a treat! Really, they make it so easy!!
Yesterday we had SO much fun! FM took me and Stanley for a walk all around a very pretty lake. FM walks with something called a cane, so Stanley I share her right hand, we are very cozy! There were a million new smells and so many nice people and a few nice dogs. Did you know that dogs come in all kinds of sizes, shapes, and colors?! Some of them are like me and, if we can take our time, we like to sniff each other and check each other out. Others can be so pushy!! I don't really like that! FM is teaching me two words while we walk, "Leave It". This phrase, I have to admit, is a bit of a doggy buzz-kill. It means I can't chase every squirrel, say hi to every person within a mile and I can't stop and chat with every single dog. I know they all want to, after all, I have discovered that I am devilishly handsome! I just want to share my fine self with everyone! Oh well, FM says that it is all about compromise. As soon as I check my canine to human translation, I will get to work on that!
The best part of all of this is that these weird but very nice people are just crazy about me!! Go figure!!
Thanks for reading the "Adventures of Alfie"! I am absolutely positive that there is plenty more to come! FM says I am a "quirky little treasure"!
