Hello! Jasper Kingson here.  I'm a 9 year old pure bred golden retriever gentleman, so my foster mom said I could write my own introduction!  I am proud to say that my foster family is full of energy and love which is a change for me.  I'm used to being left alone all the time with my sister Lily 13-296 so this whole new world of attention and being with a family is pretty cool!  I love being petted and anything that has to do with being around my foster mom and dad!  My new friends Buddy and Cesar aren't used to me being around yet.   However, I don't mind.  I know they will warm up to me sooner or later and I don't really care that they are around because they share foster mom and dad's attention very well.  For there being four of us in the house we are having a great time.  I am extremely gentle with the toys in the house and LOVE to play ball.  I can get a bit riled up when I play ball.   Who wouldn't?  It's so fun to do!  Foster mom says it's her turn now so I'll get you updates the next time foster mom says I can!  Come back and read more, like I said, I LOVE attention!

Foster mom here, Jasper is just a treat to have around the house!  He is not crate trained and the first few days he wouldn't even go near it.  All our other dogs are put in their kennels for the day so we are working on his kennel being a happy place and he will now eat breakfast and supper without trembling inside of his kennel.  He is out 24/7 now and has not chewed on anything that is not a toy or ball for him.  He does get a bit anxious though when he sister, Lily 13-296, goes for a walk with one of us.  He is 100% house trained and has had no accidents.  Jasper has had an injury to his rear left leg which leaves him stiff and has trouble getting up after laying down for awhile however he doesn't have any trouble running and playing outside for play time!  He does have a bit of learning yet to do on basic commands and recall.  He is doing great with Sit, Down, Stay, Come and we have started working on Heal on our walks.  Jasper currently has a mild ear infection and has been started on Glucosamine tablets just to help with his joints as a preventative nature.  Otherwise he is healthy and VERY happy to have a foster family with RAGOM.   We have a check up with the vet on Monday 10/14 to see how they are doing.  He is also a bit overweight so we are working on lots of walks to get his weight down and help out his legs.   Jasper and Lily have been together her entire life so if they could find a forever home together that would be absolutely amazing.    He would definitely have an adjustment period if he were to be separated from Lily.

In the pictures I am the one that has the face that is all white!

Updates

All things with Mr. Jasper are officially healed here in RAGOM land!  He had an official visit yesterday with the vet and is 100% clear of ear infections.  She did say though that he has one ear that could cause him more problems in the future so we are just planning on cleaning 1-2x’s per week and going from there for him.  He is doing well on his generic zyrtec for his itching and his glucousamine for his hips.  He gobbles them right up in the morning with his breakfast like they are piece of food!  SOOOOO easy!

As the weeks go on here we are finding out that Mr. Jasper can run, play, walk and do everything (at the same pace or faster) than our resident dogs!  His recall is getting to be just about a perfect as our resident’s recall is, which some days they try our patience too so it all balances out!  He loves to greet you when you come home!  He does bark sometimes when he gets excited or sees another dog that he wants to go and meet.  Otherwise Jasper is a pretty laid back and “chill” dog while we are inside and inquisitive when we are outside checking out all the different smells!

He is such a joy to have around and loves to be around his humans and his other friends, he is in general just out to please and get his share of the attention!

Check back for updates!

Good evening friend of RAGOM’s Jasper!  Foster Mom here just sending a quick update about everything that Jasper has been working on. He is making progress on his ears.  The doctor put in a waxy stuff with medicine in it and it’s supposed to stay in his ears for 2 weeks, of which we are on day 10 ½ so he is shaking his ears very little which is a great sign!  He is also on a dose of antibiotics for a suspected skin infection which he will be done with on Monday 10/28.  He was also started on generic Zyrtec for his itching.  He does still itch however he is doing it much less than he used to! Overall the vet is very happy with his progress and thinks loosing a few more pounds will make him a very happy pup.

So Sleepy!

He free roam of the house all day and has some minor separation anxiety when we put him in a separate room to test his tolerance.  He will whine for a few minutes then he’ll lay down / chill out the rest of the time we put him away.  He is doing VERY well walking on a leash with a gentle leader and his recall is getting much better while he is on his own.  As soon as sister Lily is around, all rules go out the door so this adorable young man is doing exceptionally well when he is on his own.  He loves to play ball and be near his humans.  He LOVES to have pets and licks.  Considering that he is stiff sometimes when he gets up, he is running around like crazy when we are outside.  Jasper is pretty quiet / chill when we are watching TV or just around the house at night.

Jasper on the right

Jasper is such a loveable dog and would be great with a family that he would be able to get outside for a daily walk and to play ball a bit.  He might not be great with a small child in the house because he does play rough when he has his ball otherwise he would be great with children that are 4-5 years of age+ and / or with an older couple looking for a companion.  He would be a GREAT senior companion for any family.  As he becomes more comfortable with our family it becomes more and more apparent he would love to be an only dog or with another – I don’t think he will really care.  He doesn’t guard anything and he loves to “do the twist” when you get home for the day to show how excited he is to have someone home! Best part about Jasper and Lily is that they easily respect any boundary that you set for them and then they also don’t beg for food!  Such good dogs!

What a Good Dog I am!
