Time flies when you're having fun! Shiloh is doing GREAT and enjoys life to the fullest! She loves camping and hiking and still looks forward to chasing the birds every time she goes outside.

She fits into our family so well and is a completely different dog from when she first came to our home. She has made a lot of progress and we enjoy watching her live the life that she deserves. She is a spoiled dog and we love spoiling her!

Our sweet Shiloh celebrated her 6th birthday on June 6th - her GOLDEN birthday! We celebrated with party hats, doggie cupcakes, and ice cream. She loved every minute of her special day! We're so happy we made her a member of our family - we look forward to lots of birthday celebrations in the future!

On July 20, 2013, we welcomed a scared little girl named Shiloh as our foster dog. She was skittish, shy, and unsure of the world. Soon she started to come out of her shell and learned to trust. She became a girl that loved to go for walks, chase birds, and go for weekend hikes in the state park. Her confidence grew and she learned what it was like to be loved and adored for the first time in her life. She was even a good sport when I dressed her up!

As time went on, it was clear to see Shiloh was falling in love with us. And who are we kidding - we were falling in love with her, too! After 19 months of fostering her, we knew it was time to make this cute little girl an official member of our family. Shiloh isn't the perfect dog, and she certainly has some quirks, but I think that makes us love her even more. It's been such a blessing to watch her blossom from a shy and fearful girl to the girl we know today - the girl that twirls in the air when she's excited, the girl that nearly climbs in her dad's lap when he's eating pizza, and the girl that runs up to her fur siblings several times a day to give them kisses. For the longest time, we couldn't believe the amount of families that passed up a chance to meet her. Now we know why - she was already home! We are so devoted to this little girl and we can't wait to take care of her for the rest of our lives. She'll always know what it's like to have a family and her medical needs will always be taken care of. We are all so lucky to have found each other!

Since our last update, Shiloh's Foster Brother Cooper passed away. He was her BFF, and even though she has bonded to all our dogs, Cooper was by far her favorite and she was absolutely in love with him. She learned a lot from him and he was instrumental in helping her overcome some of her fears with Foster Dad.

She was sad for awhile after Cooper passed away, but soon she felt up to doing her favorite things - hunting for birds in the yard and going on hikes!

We would like to send a great big THANK YOU to the Bruhn family, as well as Grandma Sue and Cousin Brett for thinking of Shiloh and decorating her page with winter icons. She is a great example of how your donations really make a difference! Shiloh is still battling allergies and we have tried 3 different medications, along with multiple creams and wipes, to help her. The one she is currently on makes her extremely hungry and she tries to eat everything in sight - both food and non-food items! She is still somewhat itchy on it, too. So, she is going in for an allergy test in mid-February and will likely be starting allergy shots after that. She deserves the best care and is able to get it due to the donations of such generous people! Be sure to check back next month to see how her visit went.

Shiloh wants Harley and Marti to know she's thinking of them and wishing them a very Merry Christmas!!  She is so thankful you chose to sponsor her and is grateful for your generosity every day.

Shiloh continues to make great progress and we are so proud of her!  When Foster Dad says, "Who wants to go for a car ride?!", she races down the stairs with the rest of the crew and doesn't even look back to see if I'm coming.  When we get up in the morning and he says, "Who wants to go for a walk?!", she runs to the door and doesn't even wait for me to get out of bed.  At night if Foster Dad goes to bed before me, Shiloh follows him into the bedroom and goes to sleep with the rest of the pups.  She still has moments where she's not too sure of him, but each day their relationship grows and she learns to trust him a little bit more. We're so lucky we get to foster her!

Hi Friends!  I thought I'd send a quick note to thank everyone who came to see me at Goldzilla!  Foster Mom was amazed by all the people - most of them complete strangers - that came over to tell her what a different girl I was since last years Goldzilla.  They noticed I wasn't as shy and I was much more outgoing, which made Foster Mom so proud of me!  She knows I've come a long way, but she was so touched by all the wonderful people that noticed it, too!  I have to admit, it brought a big smile to my face to hear all the nice things they had to say about me!

I just saw some paw prints at the top of my page and it made me so happy!!  THANK YOU Karin, Duke, Cassie, Mary, and Dave for thinking of me and brightening up my day!  I also want to say a very special thank you to the Kelly family for the paw print they gave me, too - you guys are the best and Foster Mom was so touched by your sweet gesture.

If any of my fans are out there reading about me and think I might be "The One!", here's a quick reminder of what I need in my forever home:

  • A patient family who loves me despite my quirks and is committed to helping me be the best girl I can be (I'm off to a great start!)
  • A physical fence to keep me safe because I'm still a little skittish
  • Another dog to help show me the ropes and teach me about life.  A dog that isn't dominant would suit me best
  • I would love a home with only a mom or moms, but I have made such great strides that I could live with a mom and dad if the dad is understanding and accepts my fears
  • A quiet adult only home because noise from kids on a daily basis would be too stressful for me.  Kids that visit from time to time are A-OK!

I've been patiently waiting for my forever family to find me - could that be you?

Your pal,

Little Miss Shiloh 13-176

Eeeek!  I am SO excited for Goldzilla!!  So excited that I talked my Foster Mom into creating my very own pledge page!  Be sure to check it out and if you'd like, pledge me on my walk.  You know how much I love to walk!  And guess what?!  If you come to Goldzilla, there's another way you can support me!  Just head to the merchandise tent and ask to buy a paw print for me - you can write your very own message and it will show up on my page!  I just know I have some fans out there, don't I?!  Oh, and by the way, I'll be at Goldzilla all day, but if you need to mark a time in your calendar to see me for sure, I'll be in the foster tent from 10:30-11:30.

This week was a pretty good one for me.  Now that Bauer is healed up and back to his normal self, we got to go hiking at the State Park!  I was SO happy!  I even got to wade in the lake! When we got home we all slept for a very long time. Until Foster Dad broke out the popcorn, that is!  Just look at this picture - I have come such a long way from the shy, scared little girl I once was. Life is great!!

I figured it was time to update all my admirers on what I've been doing these days!  To be honest, a good deal of my time is spent trying to catch the birdies in the yard.  My Foster Sister Betty is a pro and I aspire to be just like her one day!  She says I'm getting close and with a little more dedication I just may catch one.  So, I've been practicing my techniques and I hope to be successful very soon!

Foster Mom signed us up to work the RAGOM garage sale next Friday.  We'll be there from 11-2:30, so stop on by to say hi!  And did you hear Goldzilla is just around the corner??  That's right, save the date for Sunday, September 14th!  We'll be there all day long and I would love for you to come out and meet me!!  I had lots of fun last year and I know I'll have a great time again.  Hopefully next year I'll be attending the big day as a RAGOM Alum instead of a foster dog.  I mean, being a foster dog is great and all, but I would love to attend with my very own forever family!  I wiggle and smile just at the thought.

Hugs and kisses,

Little Miss Shiloh

Hi Friends!  This weekend we went to Iowa again and we had a BLAST!  We stayed with our friend Joey and her 2 RAGOM dogs.  Joey saw me last year just after I arrived in my foster home, and she couldn't believe what a different dog I am these days!!  She remembered how I hid under the pine tree when she saw me last year, and was amazed at how social I was this weekend!  I hung out on the deck with all the people and dogs and had lots of fun.  I let everyone give me belly rubs and we got some yummy fruit for snacks - I couldn't get enough of it and walked right over to Foster Dad each time he offered me some.  Remember in my last update when I stayed with Michelle, Cadence, and Finn for a little vacation?  Well, they were at Joey's house to party with us and I was so happy to see them!!  All the dogs went swimming in the big pool and I admit I was a little jealous they were having so much fun.  So, my Foster Mom lifted me up and Cadence floated me around the pool on the raft!  I had lots of fun!!  If you've read my previous updates, you know I love to swim, so I was really excited I got to swim some laps while I was in there, too!

CAN YOU BELIEVE I'VE BEEN IN FOSTER CARE FOR A YEAR ALREADY???  My Foster Parents sure can't!  They love me to pieces and say I'm not the same little girl that came to them a year ago.  (Trust me, if you talk to my Foster Mom, she'll probably yak your ear off about all my progress!)  They would love for me to stay with them forever and ever, but they know there is a very special family out there just waiting to make all my dreams come true.

Shiloh here, checking in after my vacation in IA!  I stayed with temp foster mom, Michelle, 2 legged foster sister, Cadence, almost 3 year old resident Golden, Finn, and 2 cats!  It was a push outside of my comfort zone, but I surprised everyone at how well I did and how quickly I adjusted to a new home, family, and routine!  I had met my temp FM and Finn a few times, so it made the transition a little smoother.

I was there for 2 weeks and I had a lot of fun!  I settled in right away, much to the surprise of my foster family and my temp foster mom (FM).  Temp FM had a trailing leash on me for the first few days, but I showed her that she could trust me to come inside and that I would come up to her when she called, so I earned my freedom from having to drag a leash behind me.  I really followed the lead of Finn when it came to coming in and out of the house.  We took lots of walks and hikes in the local state parks.  Temp foster mom has been making us go 4-6 miles per day and it’s been fun!  Both Finn and I are so tired each night.  Sometimes, I didn’t even have the energy in the evening to do anything other than nap on one of the dog beds!    I did great while FM was at work and did a happy dance every day when she got home!

There were two things at my temp foster home that I don’t have at my foster home that everyone said would be a good test for me while I was on my vacation.  My temp foster home has cats!  And I showed everyone that I don’t mind living with them at all!  I don’t bother them, I don’t chase them, and I would do fine with them in my forever home!  One of them swatted me in the face when I accidentally came around the corner and ran into him, but I didn’t get upset at all.  I was fine with them rubbing up on my legs and body.  Another huge test – kids!  My temp foster family included Cadence, a 9 year old very dog savvy girl.  For the first several days, she was in MN at her grandparent’s cabin, so I had a chance to settle into the house before she got here.  I was a little more on edge when she was around, but she gave me my space and didn’t try to force me to do anything, so I trusted her and we got along just fine!  I still got nervous with the noises of her toys and kids’ fast movements, so although I would do fine with visiting children, I would prefer to not have kids in my forever home.

We had a RAGOM meet and greet at Leash On Life in Iowa City, IA.  I was a little nervous at first, but I quickly warmed up to everyone!  Temp FM handed off my leash to different people so I would get used to others there, which I was ok with.  I did get VERY excited whenever my temp FM came into view, though!  I hung out with several other RAGOM foster dogs and we all got along great.  I even took treats from everyone and let strangers come close without trying to hide behind anyone!  Everyone was so proud of me!

I had a great time on my trip to IA and it was a good test for me (and FM!) to see how I would do!  I was so excited to see FM again though.  I jumped and flipped and grunted with happiness!  I was very happy to see my foster dad and the pups when we got back to my foster home, too!   My temp FM really loved having me and thinks that I’m such a great dog.

I graduated from class, woo-hoo!!!!  I did such a great job and everyone was SO proud of me!  It has really helped my bond with Foster Dad, so much in fact that I gave him the "Foster Mom" treatment in class one night!  We were working on handing off the leash to other people, so I had to walk with someone else for a bit.  As soon as I saw Foster Dad again I got SO excited!!  I started spinning around, jumping in the air, and squealing!  Foster Dad felt sooooo special!  And it's not just my foster family that has noticed changes in me - other people have, too!  The class instructor thought I walked with more confidence, and when I went to the vet this week, they said the same thing!  As soon as we walked in the office and made our way to the scale, the nice vet tech told my Foster Mom that she could see a change in me from just a few weeks before!  She said I didn't seem as scared when I was there and I seemed much more confident.  The vet thought I had improved, too!  I guess I will be getting ice cream for more reason then one this Friday (the first reason is because it's my birthday!!  I turn 5!!)  We love to celebrate around here and I saw Foster Mom putting some peanut butter and bananas in the freezer the other day.  I hope they're for me!!

I want to take a minute to thank Harley and Marty again for sponsoring me!  I have been to the allergist a couple times this month trying to figure out my allergies, and your sponsorship has allowed RAGOM to get me the wonderful help that I need!  I had been a little more itchy then normal so it was decided I should see the allergist to get an idea of what was going on.  During my first appointment it was discovered I had a pretty bad infection in my paws and hind end, so we treated that with a few meds to see if it would clear up.  The thought was that I was itching so much because they hurt!  And you know what?!  That was right!  The meds cleared up my infection and I felt so much better!  I did start to get a little itchy before my second appointment, and my skin still looked a little pink, so they decided it would be best if I was put on some prescription allergy pills.  The good news, though, is that it's only $15 a month!  I start it this weekend so we'll see how it goes - I think it is going to help me a lot!  They call it the "weekend allergy pill" because you only have to take it 2 days a week!  How awesome is that?!  The vet thinks I will have to always be on it, so it's nice that it's easy to give and doesn't cost much!  Although my foster family says I am worth each and every little penny.  :)  We think my allergies right now are environmental, but continuing me on a grain free food will also be very important!  So thank you again, Harley and Marty, for all your love and support!  And a big thanks to everyone for all of the wonderful icons they have decorated my page with!

I know I mentioned in my last update that my Foster Brother wasn't feeling very well.  He ended up having a couple of surgeries, so things have been pretty low key around here.  I wanted to him to know how much I loved him so I gently climbed in the chair with him and fell fast asleep.   This means we won't be going to the State Park anytime soon, but we all love him so much that his getting better is more important!  I love him lots and lots and I know he can feel the love!

My Foster Parents were supposed to go out of town and I was going to head to Iowa with another Foster Mom, Michelle, for a few weeks.  Although they cancelled their trip, we decided it would still be a good experience for me to live with Michelle for a few weeks and "spread my wings."  I've met her a few times before and I'm excited to see her again!  She has a golden named Finn and I've met him before, too - he even stayed with us while his mom was out of town!  Finn understands me and we get along just fine.  I also get to meet a cat at her house, too!  So, in just a few weeks we'll know if I passed the cat test or not!  After 11 months in foster care we'll finally have the answer!  :)  I also heard Michelle is going to take me to an event in Iowa while I'm there!!  That makes me happy!  Although I can be a little shy at events, I love going for car rides so I will be pretty excited to hop in the car for an adventure!  I hope you'll check back soon to hear about all the fun I had in Iowa!

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Hi Friends!  Sorry it's been a few weeks since my last update, but I've been a busy girl! I'm happy to report that my class with Foster Dad is going exceptionally well! The first night I was kinda' nervous, but he kept feeding me really yummy treats when I was laying next to him and won me over in no time!  By the second week I was sitting for him and taking treats - even with him standing up!  Normally I would run for the hills if he was coming near me so this was a very big step in trusting him.  This past weekend he went out of town, and when he came home, I barked at him when I first saw him.  BUT, I was also happy to see him!  Yes, you read that right - I was excited to see Foster Dad!!  All my foster sibs were running over to him in excitement and I couldn't help but join them!  I still barked at him, but I ran over to see if he had a treat, instead of running in the opposite direction!

Now that Spring is here, all the birdies are out and I'm having a fun time chasing them.  Foster Mom said it's a good thing I'm not fast enough to catch them!  I'm pretty sneaky and wait until they are all on the ground around the feeder, then I spring into action and run towards them.  As soon as they see me coming they fly away and into the tree.  Then I go from tree, to tree, to tree, trying to get them to slip up.  They've out smarted me so far, darn it!

Well, I know this is a short update, but my foster brother isn't feeling too well so I need to go check on him.  I keep giving him kisses and wiggling my butt for him, but all he wants to do is sleep!  Silly boy! I hope he feels better soon so we can go hiking again - have I told you lately how much I love visiting the State Park?!

Monday, April 21, 2014

Hi friends! I want to send a BIG thanks to Chester for decorating my page with a spring icon! That was so thoughtful of you! I also want to thank my foster sibs for the icon they gave me, too - I love them so, so, much! I know they mentioned I've come a long ways, and it's true - I have! Last month I started on some medicine to help me relax a little around Foster Dad. It has helped me so much! Now, I only bark at him when he comes home from work, instead of every time he walks in the room. I also run up to him in the yard and sniff him and hang around him a bit. But the biggest news is that I take treats from him! He sits down on the floor and gives the other dogs treats, and I do a couple circles around them in curiosity and excitement. Then, Foster Dad stretches his arm out to the side to give me a treat, and I run up and take it! Earlier this week I even ran up and licked his ice cream bowl when he called me over! I have a feeling all this great progress is going to continue for me and Foster Dad. This week we are starting a 6-week class together at The Canine Coach for shy and fearful dogs. It's going to be a great bonding experience, and I can tell Foster Dad really loves me because it's an hour away from our house!

Stay tuned for all my wonderful progress and to hear how my class is going. But in the meantime, someone give me a belly rub, would ya?!

Foster Mom always says she can't help but smile every time she looks at me.  What can I say, I'm pretty adorable, don't you think?!

Friday, February 21, 2014

Wow, wow, WOW!!  I just looked at my page and saw I had some Valentine's!  Thank you so very much to my neighborhood friend Ruby, foster Auntie Jill and Uncle Gary, and the very handsome Zeek!  I feel like the luckiest girl on the planet!  Thank you for remembering and thinking about me on Valentine's Day!

We got a foot of snow at our house last night and I have been having a blast running around and rolling in it.  Foster Dad used to shovel a path for me because I'm so little, but I really prefer doing a belly flop in the snow and running around in the deep stuff.  Winter is my favorite time of the year!!

We have some special friends named Finn and Vinnie staying with us this week.  The first couple of days I did my usual routine of trying to be tough when they came into my space, but I relaxed by the middle of the week when I learned they weren't going to challenge me.  Someone at an event recently asked my Foster Mom why she thinks I should live with another dog if I get grumpy sometimes when they come to stay with us.  I think the reason is pretty simple - they teach me.  They teach me something great about life each and every single day.  They show me that life can be fun and exciting, not scary and hurtful.  They show me that food is good and I shouldn't be ashamed to eat it.  They show me people can be trusted and not feared.  They've taught me about snuggling, giving kisses, and enjoying life with a good friend by your side.  I can't imagine not having that for the rest of my life.  Recently, it was just me and Foster Mom for a night because we came back from out of town to go to an event.  Now, everyone knows how much I love Foster Mom, right?  Well, she was surprised by how different I was without the other dogs here.  I was still glad to be with her, but I hesitated to get on the couch to snuggle with her, I didn't want to sleep in bed with her, and I wasn't excited about getting up and eating breakfast.  The next day when I came home and my foster sibs were there, I couldn't control my excitement about being reunited with my best friends.  I practically did a back flip straight in the air!  We ran around the yard together and I had a big smile on my face.  That night I snuggled on the couch with Foster Mom and my buddy Cooper, and didn't even think twice about jumping up to get some lovin'.  I jumped up in bed the next day when the alarm went off and Betty and I started running circles around the bedroom because we were just so happy.   This is the Golden life everyone told me about, and I can't wait to find my very own family to celebrate with for the rest of my life.

Saturday, February 1, 2014

Hi everyone, it's your friend Shiloh! We had some excitement in my foster home a few weeks ago, so I must make a confession! For some reason, I decided to be a little stinker and eat part of a sheet. Everyone was so surprised, because I've been in foster care for a long time and I've never eaten anything or been destructive. It all startedon Sunday, when my foster parents came home and saw what they thought were little teeth marks on the top sheet on their bed. They were perplexed because my foster sibs don't do things like that anymore, and neither did I! Then Foster Dad came homeon Tuesdayand saw that part of the sheet was ripped. It didn't look like any was eaten, but when we went out to go potty, he knew that wasn't the case. I was still acting normal over the next couple of days, and continued to pass parts of the sheet. I got sick a couple of times, but was still eating good and running around in excitement every time we went outside. Since it really didn't look like the sheet had been eaten, we thought I had passed it all. Then, I stopped eating and couldn't even hold down water anymore. Foster Mom brought me to the vet and they decided I needed surgery that day. Foster Mom felt terrible, but I reassured her I was going to be okay! The staff at Lakes Veterinary and Surgical Center in Lindstrom took such great care of me and I was in excellent hands! The surgery confirmed what we already knew - there was sheet stuck in my belly. I spent the night at the vet and when my foster parents came to pick me up the next day, I was back to my spunky self. They were so excited to see me smiling again!

I'm so grateful to Harley and Marti for sponsoring me and helping to pay for my medical care. No one is sure why I decided to eat the sheet out of the blue like that, especially since I've been such a good girl since I've been here. All we can think is that it might have had something to do with the cold snap - it happened during the days we had really, really, cold weather and they were closing all those schools.  We didn't get our walks for a few days, and I really missed them! I LOVE walks - they are my absolute favorite thing in the world! Now that I've healed up, we go on lots of walks and have been snowshoeing again, too.

I'm hoping to make it up to the Duluth event on February 9th if the weather is nice. My Foster Grandma lives up there and I would love to see her! Of course, I hope all my adoring fans will come out to see me, too. Foster Mom says I'm just the cutest thing and she can't believe no one has fallen in love with me yet! I guess it's time to remind you about what I'm looking for in my forever home:

  • Another dog comparable in size to keep me company and help show me life isn't so scary. A dog that doesn't have a dominant personality like me is best. Although at times I act like I want to play, I wouldn't be a good fit for a home that is looking for a playmate for their dog. Most of the time I just lay around and relax.
  • A home with a physical fence to keep me safe. I startle easily and don't have good recall. I also don't like to potty on leash, unless we're hiking and it's a really long leash.
  • I would prefer a home without kids, but teenagers would be okay. The commotion of little kids on a daily basis would be too stressful for me and I really want a quiet home where I can relax and be comfortable.
  • I need a family who adores me despite all my quirks, and sees the potential in me. When I first came into foster care, I wasn't being too nice to my foster sibs and wasn't so sure I liked living with other dogs. Now I just love them and I miss them if they're not home. I love laying by them and telling them how much I love them. I need a family that understands things may be rocky in the beginning, but knows I will get through it with love and patience. My foster family loves and adores me and they are so proud of the wonderful little girl I've become!

If you meet my requirements and think I'm the right girl for you, please contact your placement adviser to meet me!

Brrrr.......it's been so cold!!  What perfect weather to sleep in late and cuddle with my Foster Brothers!

Sunday, December 29, 2013

Oh boy, oh boy! Everyone was right when they told me Christmas was going to be awesome! Not only did I get spoiled with lots of treats, but I got my very own sponsor! Thank you so much, Harley and Marti, for seeing what a special girl I am and choosing to sponsor me! Knowing Harley found a great home where he's loved and adored gives me hope that my forever family is out there looking for me, too! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for thinking of me!

This morning I saw Foster Dad putting some strange looking things in the car. I watched all my foster sibs pile in, and then I heard him say, "Don't worry, Shiloh, you're coming with us, too!" We were all excited but no one would say where we were going. All of a sudden Bauer started whining in excitement, like he'd been to this place before. Foster Dad got out of the car and took the strange looking things with him. Then Foster Mom told me what they were - we were going snowshoeing! Oh gosh, did we ever have a blast! My very first time snowshoeing, and I think I'm hooked!

Merry Christmas, everyone!  I thought I'd send a quick note to thank Team Hudson for thinking of me and decorating my page with a winter icon!  I have a feeling this is going to be the best Christmas yet - I'm in a nice warm home with a foster family that loves and adores me.  They hope Santa will bring me my forever family soon, because they know how much I deserve it, but for now they are happy I get to share the holiday with them and are looking forward to spoiling me with some of my favorite things.  I don't know how that's different from every other day, but I can't wait to find out!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Friends! Sorry it's been awhile since my last update - I've just been having so much fun and haven't had time to write! What kind of fun, you ask? Well, I love to chase the birdies in the backyard with my foster sibs - and sometimes rabbits, too! We also went hiking again and you know how much fun I had the first time! Foster Mom ties a 30 feet leash around her waist, which gives me plenty of room to explore and sniff. I heard we get to go again real soon, so I'm really excited! Foster Mom also takes me for lots of car rides and says I make the cutest little co-pilot!

I've really become one of the pack around here. I know in the beginning things were a little rough, but I've really softened and I'm seeing how great living with other dogs really is. I have been sleeping in the bedroom for almost a month with the rest of the crew and I've been on my best behavior. Foster Dad said he is sooooo proud of me! We had another foster dog named Rusty come stay with us for about a month. Even though I didn't like him too much in the beginning, I got over it after a few days and loved to watch him and Bauer wrestle every night. Those two would wrestle for hours - no lie! It kinda looked like fun, and one day I surprised everyone when I went up to Bauer and tried to play with him! I really caught him off guard because he wasn't expecting it from me, and I think I confused him. He gave me a funny look and went and laid in the bedroom. Silly boy, doesn't he know girls just wanna have fun?! Cooper is my BFF and I just LOVE him! I know I'm still too young to have a boyfriend, but I'm really smitten with him. I love him so much, I've even started to snuggle on the couch with him!

Foster Mom had to take me to the vet a couple times this month because I was itching and licking like crazy! We knew I had some seasonal allergies, but now we think I might be allergic to certain food, too. It's important I stay on a grain free food, but we're switching me from a fish based food to a pork based food to see if that helps. It's also important that my diet is chicken free - so many doggies are allergic to chicken and I am probably one of them! I also have an infection in my right ear so Foster Mom puts drops in them every night. I am so good about it - I let her do it without any issues. She also has to wipe my paws with some special wipes and I just roll on my back, put my feet in the air, and let her do her stuff. Don't tell her, but it actually feels good! The vet also put me on an antibiotic for a couple weeks to clear up the infection in my paws from all the licking. Foster Dad dips it in a little peanut butter for me and I eat it straight from the bowl with the rest of my food. I loooooove peanut butter!

Oh my gosh, speaking of peanut butter, I have a funny story! If you've met me in person, you know I'm a tiny little peanut. One night, Foster Mom was making her lunch (a peanut butter and jelly sandwich of course!), and when she turned around to grab a knife, all of a sudden her loaf of bread disappeared! I was so busted! She even took a picture of me! In my defense, it was toward the edge of the counter, so I just said "Go, Go, Gadget Legs", and before she knew it, I was in the middle of the living room with it! Oh boy did she ever laugh and laugh and laugh! Of all the dogs in the house, she never thought she would have to worry about ME being a counter surfer! Hahaha, Foster Mom - fooled you! After she finally finished making her sandwich, she turned around to put the knife in the sink. Anyone want to guess what happened next?!

I mean seriously Foster Mom, you should know better than that! What are you going to do next, dress me up in an elf costume for Christmas?! Oh boy, I probably shouldn't have said that out loud - I just heard her telling Foster Dad I would make an adorable elf and to go get his credit card! Maybe her camera will go on the fritz and she won't be able to take any pictures. Oh who am I kidding, she has that dang camera phone with her constantly! Ugh, a girl can dream, right?!

Where has the time gone?! The leaves are changing and Shiloh has a lot of news to share! She is adjusting so well and has really started to come out of her shell and is blossoming more and more every day. There were some tough days in the beginning, as she was settling into our pack, but I honestly could not be more proud of her. I am so lucky to be her Foster Mom!! Although she doesn't play with our dogs, I now find her laying by them all the time. She follows Cooper wherever he goes and is like his little shadow. When I leave with one of our resident dogs, she runs up to them when we get home with such excitement. She has such a big smile on her face and nudges them with happiness. I just love this special girl!

Shiloh still sleeps in her crate at night because for some reason, she doesn't like it when the dogs come in our bedroom when we're sleeping. So, she is crated across the hall and sleeps all night without a peep. One day I went in to get her in the morning, and she was laying on her back with all of her feet in the air. And snoring! Gosh, was she ever cute. She still eats in her crate for meals and knows the routine very well, especially for dinner. We come inside from playing and she runs right to her crate, ready to eat. She sleeps in a wire crate at night, but loves to snooze in a plastic crate in our living room while we eat dinner. Although she doesn't need to be crated during the day, I would love to see a crate made available to her for when she relaxes.

Shiloh is still in love with Foster Mom and often gives me kisses on my arms. She is still so excited to see me after a long day at work, and I love watching her excitement! We welcomed another foster dog into our home a couple of weeks ago, and by the 3rd day, Shiloh was a little protective of me, and let him know she didn't want to share me. Fast forward 2 weeks and she is doing so much better. I often find her standing so close to him that they're touching, often with a smile on her face. She is making such great strides. She is still having a difficult time with Foster Dad, and we're trying to decide if she should live with a man or not. She does okay with him when I'm not home, but as soon as I'm home, she becomes very attached to me and barks and barks at Foster Dad if he tries to come near me, or even enter the same room as me. We have some theories on her past life and what may cause her to act like this, but for the most part, things are unknown. For now, Foster Dad does not make eye contact when he sees her and sometimes will walk into the room backwards, as that will sometimes help her to remain calm.

Shiloh still loves her peanut butter Kongs and has recently discovered the joy of licking peanut butter off a spoon! Oh boy, does she ever enjoy it! She now takes treats from me all the time and can hardly wait her turn. She has also started to enjoy a special treat with the rest of the pups - tracheas! Our pups get them from time to time, and we always got Shiloh one so she wouldn't feel left out. She would sniff it and then run away, wanting nothing to do with it. Now she gets excited and can't wait to chow down!

It's hard to believe Shiloh has been with us for 3 months already. She is such a sweet girl and with a lot of patience and love, is becoming such a wonderful little pup. She will need a family that's patient and who will allow her time to settle in and be the dog that we have grown to know and love. She is a gem!

Shiloh had such a fun weekend! She went hiking with the rest of the pack and had the time of her life. She even got to go swimming for the first time! She followed the rest of the dogs as they ran into the water, and even jumped off the side of the dock at one point! She had such a fun time and we were so thrilled to be a part of it! We took lots and lots of pictures, so here is a little preview of her fun day.

Hi Friends! I hope everyone was able to make it out to Goldzilla! I had SUCH a fun day!! I met lots of nice people and even let some of them pet me. I also met lots of nice doggies there, did some shopping (I scored an elk antler!), and got to walk in the foster showcase parade. Here's a picture of me from Goldzilla - aren't I beautiful?! Thanks, Devon, for the fabulous pic!

I happened to be looking at my web page a couple days after Goldzilla, and I couldn't believe my eyes! Patch and Chelsea 02-208 purchased some paw prints for me at Goldzilla and decorated my page with them! I couldn't believe it - I feel so very special! And loved! Wow, being a RAGOM dog just keeps better and better! Thank you so much for thinking of me, guys! You sure know how to make a girl blush. :)

I forgot to tell you that Foster Mom took me to get groomed for the big day. I did pretty well and the ladies there just fell in love with me. We found out one thing for sure though - no dryers for me! That part was scary and I didn't like it one bit. Foster Mom said that was okay - she doesn't like to dry her hair all the time, either! I'm still looking pretty cute from my grooming session, so why not come out and visit with me this weekend? I'll be at the Be the Change for Pets event from 10-12 on Saturday. The weather looks gorgeous - I hope you'll stop by to visit!

Hi Friends, it's Shiloh!  I wanted to drop in for a few minutes to say hi and tell you what I've been up to!  First of all, I've been in my foster home for a month and a half and I've had NO potty accidents!  I've done all my business outside like a good girl and usually go right away when we go out.  Foster Mom said I could teach my foster sibs a thing or two, because they like to saunter around the yard when they go out - especially when she's running late for work!  Silly kids!

I hope a lot of you were able to make it out to the RAGOM garage sale - it was SO much fun and it was a huge success! I want to thank Auntie Jean and her husband Bob for hosting the sale and doing such a great job.  RAGOM is lucky to have you guys!  I got to hang out at the garage sale when my Foster Parents were working - my Foster Sister Betty came, too!  I was a little shy at times and hung in the back of the play area, but here's a picture of me coming out to check out the action and see what the other dogs were up to.

It looks like I have some seasonal allergies because my paws have really been itchy.  I am really good about taking my allergy pills - they just drop them in the bowl with my food and I gobble them right up!  I'm looking pretty good weight wise and probably only have a few more pounds to lose.  I don't have an official weight, but Foster Mom is going to take me for a car ride in a few days so we can stop by the vet and get weighed.  Speaking of car rides, I do pretty good in the car for not having much exposure to them.  I do pant for a bit, but settle down after about 10 minutes.  I LOVE to look out the windows and I also love riding shotgun!  I have free roam during the work day now, mostly because I escaped from my crate a few times.  Oops!  I was in a wire crate and pushed my way right out the front of it. The good news is that there have been no issues during the day and my foster parents feel totally comfortable leaving me out of my crate.  I do eat there for my meals, though, and sleep there overnight.  I don't try to get out and sleep soundly. Foster Mom said she still needs to cat test me and is hoping to do that soon.  I do bark at the neighbor's cat when they bring it outside, but it's usually the dad of the house that brings it out, and you know how scary I think men can be sometimes. Hopefully we'll know in a couple weeks if I like cats or not.

Foster Dad is still trying to win me over and I still like to bark at him, just to keep him on his toes. He said he's proud of me because the barking has decreased, and he knows in time I'll be more comfortable around him.  I've also been hanging out downstairs with him and the rest of the crew on the night Foster Mom works real late.  I used to hang out upstairs by myself, but now I venture downstairs to hang out in the family room with them.  I won't come close and hang out by Foster Dad, but being down there when Foster Mom's gone is a huge step for me.  It's those hot dogs, I tell ya!

My foster parents bought me this cute bandanna when they went to the state fair.  Don't you love it?! They said it was just perfect for me!  I'll be wearing it in person this weekend at Woofstock - Foster Dad is taking me as a bonding experience, and I'll be there from 10-12:30.  I'm warming up for all the fun and excitement of Goldzilla on the 15th - I hope you'll come out to see me there, too!

Bye for now!  Your friend,

Shiloh 13-176

Heeeelllloooooooooooooo RAGOM friends, it's me - Shiloh!!  I wanted to write and tell everyone my big news - I went on my very first walk this week!  I loved it so much, I got to go again the next day, and the next and the next!  My foster parents said they were SO proud of me!  I couldn't stop smiling, I was grinning from ear to ear!  I'm glad I finally felt comfortable venturing out into the world, because Goldzilla is coming up and I can't wait!  I'm helping my foster parents raise money for the big event, so why not check out our page (http://goldzilla.goldzilla.dojiggy.com/betty2012) and help out foster dogs just like ME!

Foster Dad is still trying to win me over, and I'm starting to lighten up a little around him.  I still bark at him sometimes when he comes into the room, but only if Foster Mom is there.  He tosses a hot dog at me every time he comes into a room when I'm there, and you know I can't resist a tasty hot dog treat!  He hopes I'll be THIS excited to see him someday - it's a video of me getting excited to see Foster Mom!  She had only went inside for a minute, but I get excited like that every time I see her!  In the meantime, Foster Dad is keeping those hot dogs handy!

I can't believe I almost forgot to tell you my other big news!!  My foster parents splurged and got a DNA test for me.  Everyone was trying to guess what my breed was - some people thought a Dwarf Golden Retriever, some thought I was a Golden/Dachshund mix, and others thought I was a Golden/Corgi mix.  Guess what?!  They were all WRONG!  You guys won't believe it, you really, really won't!  I am a Golden Retriever/Siberian Husky/English Setter mix!  See, told you you wouldn't believe it!  Everyone still thinks I have the Dwarf gene, because how else could you account for these cute little legs!

Until next time, your pal - Shiloh 13-176

Shiloh continues to settle in and is getting more brave with each passing day.  She has a somewhat hot/cold relationship with Foster Dad, at times letting him sit and pet her, but other times looking scared of him and not wanting to be around him.  He is taking things very slow with her and letting her know that he's a good guy - she was really happy when he started tossing pieces of hot dog in her direction and stayed up on the deck with everyone for the rest of the evening.  Normally she would run back down the stairs, but after their bonding moment she felt comfortable just hanging out.

We spend a lot of time outside in the summer, and Shiloh has started to come closer to us when we're lounging in the grass.  In the beginning she would hang back by the fence line, but now she's a little more comfortable and likes to explore.  We had a female friend over, and after a while she was comfortable enough to come right up to where Foster Mom was sitting with her friend in the grass.  Shiloh watches our dogs and is curious when they play fetch, but she prefers to be a spectator right now. She still doesn't play with toys, but she loves the frozen peanut butter Kong she gets when we leave every day!

Shiloh has lost a few pounds since she's been with us,  and is looking great.  Her belly no longer hangs so close to the ground and she looks much healthier.  She still paces in the house, so some of her weight loss can be attributed to that, but the smaller portion sizes are helping, as well. We feed her down the hall from our dogs for a few reasons.  She wasn't a good eater in the beginning, and our dogs would get done with their dinner much sooner then she would.  We didn't want them putting their nose in her bowl when she was trying to eat.  It also allowed our dogs to relax while they were eating, without her pacing around the kitchen area.  We have noticed, however, that even though we put Shiloh's bowl down before our dogs, she will not start eating until she hears them start eating first.

Shiloh enjoys the company of our dogs, especially when we're outside.  Inside there have been a few growls as she figures out her place in the pack, but she is an excellent communicator and our dogs have respected her space.  We've found that she has favorite areas in the house and sometimes is protective of them, but she's starting to let her guard down and realize the other dogs are not going to push her out of her safe spots.  Since Shiloh was given up because they had too many dogs, it's possible her space in the house was precious to her and that's why she feels a need to protect it sometimes.

Shiloh is still shy and startles somewhat easily when she hears a loud noise.  If we put a dish down too loud, or accidentally drop something, she runs to the other room.  Unfortunately, we still have fireworks going off in our neighborhood, often during the day.  Like a lot of dogs, Shiloh isn't a fan of the fireworks, but oddly enough, runs straight to Foster Dad for comfort.  If Foster Dad isn't available, she snuggles with her Foster Sister Betty.

Shiloh is starting to enjoy the good life but will need a patient family willing to help her blossom and grow.  She will also need a forever family that meets the following requirements:

  • Another well adjusted dog, comparable in size, is a must.  She needs a confident dog to show her life isn't scary
  • A fenced in yard to keep her safe, as she startles easily and does not have good recall
  • An adult only home, or a home with teenagers or older.  Commotion and noise from young kids on a daily basis would be too stressful for her
  • Cats are unknown at this point as we haven't had an opportunity to cat test her yet

Please contact your Placement Adviser if you think you might be a great match for this beautiful girl!

Introducing Shiloh – RAGOM’s newest sweetheart!  Shiloh was surrendered to a shelter by an owner that had too many dogs.  Because the shelter was full, they contacted RAGOM who of course did not hesitate to say YES!  We are told her birth date is June 6, 2009, making her just over 4 years old.   She appears to have the dwarf gene and is just the cutest little thing you've ever seen!

She is about the size of a Basset Hound and the rest of her appearance is Golden.  She weighs in at around 50 lbs and will need to drop some weight off her frame.  She is spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations.  She did a lot of panting and pacing when she first arrived at our home but is starting to settle in nicely.

Shiloh has been with us for a week and has not had any accidents.  She does all her business outside like a good girl!  She is crated while we’re at work, although we suspect she would do just fine with free roam.  She keeps her crate clean and lets out the cutest little grunt when we get home.  She is just adorable!

It’s clear she hasn't played with many toys in her life and so far has only watched our pups as they've played with their favorites.  She did chew on an elk antler last night, however, which we were so excited to see!  Her teeth have a lot of plaque and that will definitely help get them nice and clean.

Sometimes the hardest part of fostering is wondering what their life was like before they came to us.  I asked Shiloh to tell us, but her lips are sealed!  She’s a shy girl, and has some puppy mill tendencies, but at the same time she is somewhat social.  She’s not afraid of doorways and did the stairs without any problems.

She will willingly come over to us for pets and even laid with Foster Dad and let him give her lots and lots of belly rubs.  Yet, at the same time, it’s clear Shiloh hasn’t had as much contact with humans as she should have.  We keep a long leash on her outside, even in our fenced yard, because when it’s time to come inside she gets nervous and doesn’t want to come to us.

So, we wind up her leash and she will then follow us into the house.  She won’t always need this, but for now it’s necessary.   We also keep a trailing leash on her inside the house until she’s more comfortable.  While she’ll approach us for pets, she won’t follow us when it’s time to go outside.  So, we pick up her leash and guide her down the stairs and into the yard.

She bucked the leash at first but has become much more comfortable in the short time she’s been with us.  She’s getting used to living with humans but is still somewhat skittish.  She doesn’t like it if we walk her direction and will typically run to her safe spot in the bedroom.

She’ll then stick her head out of the room to see what we’re doing, and come back out to see us.  If we start walking her direction, she’ll retreat again.  In time she’ll get more comfortable but she’ll need a family that is willing to help her overcome her fears.  She likes both of us but has really bonded with me, her Foster Mom, the most.

What does Shiloh’s forever home look like?  She will need to have a physical fence to keep her safe, a dog comparable in size or larger to help show her the ropes, and no young children.  Teenagers would be just fine.

Thank you to Shiloh’s sponsors:
Hi Shiloh, Holiday wishes to you and my foster family. You are a lucky dog. The F family is the best! I love my forever home but will never forget the loving care I got in North Branch! Our best, Harley and Marti
