As of March 17, 2013 the RAGOM Board approved removing the physical fence requirement for adopters of puppy mill dogs. Instead, the foster family will determine whether their foster dog needs a fence to be kept safe.

Stella does NOT need a fence, but it would be nice to have one!

Stella still needs a confident, medium to large dog to help guide her in this new and exciting life as a cherished pet; no children under 10; and... a very loving forever family!

Hello; Stella arrived at our home on 6/18. It will be a week tomorrow. She is very timid and shy. She will not go outside without us nearly carrying her. When out, she will walk on the martingale collar lead pretty well and likes to follow our resident dog's lead. She will go into the house readily and immediately scoots to her safe place. She is eating a little and drinking water. We have not heard a peep out of her. She is very sweet in that she will let us pet her, or a least tolerates it. She will not take a treat from my hand, but I show it to her to give her the opportunity and then put it on the floor so she at least sees it was in my hand. I leave the room and she eats the treat. She is a pretty, petite girl who weighs 50 lb. She had her first dose of vaccinations, heartworm test (negative) and first dose of Heartguard and Frontline before she got here. We had her to the vet on 6/21 for a fecal test (negative) and check-up before being spayed. Her birthdate is August 5, 2011 which makes her not quite two years old. We are happy to have her and are hoping she feels more comfortable soon.

Hello, It's time for an update. It was a busy August. Foster Mom was out of the country on a vacation and Foster Dad was spending some time with family in Minneapolis. Thanks to Sue for helping out by taking good care of Stella. She had a vacation too, at the lake, no less! Stella remains a very sweet girl who loves to follow a resident dog around. In the house, she likes to be close to people (as long as resident dog is there too). She still finds her place in each room she goes in and stays there. She doesn't seem fearful anymore, just prefers to have her own place. She likes to go outside on her long rope and does not wander far from our other dog and comes readily when both dogs are called. She walks fairly well on a leash. She does jump in the car readily now. She has no guarding issues with food or toys. She allows people to lie close to her and pet her with no adverse body language or verbalization. She still has a reluctance to take food from our hand, but occasionally does with a lot of encouragement. She will be a calm, quiet companion, as long as there is another dog present. Another dog is a prerequisite for her. Please consider giving her a try at a forever home.

Hello; This is Stella. I'm trusting my foster family a little more. We have a routine I can rely on. They did try to keep feeding me twice a day, but finally got the message that I only like to eat once a day in the mornings, thank you. Now I get up in the morning from my fireplace position, eat and go outside. Then we come in and nap and go outside off and on for the rest of the day.

We usually go for a longer walk later in the day. Sometimes my foster mom and dad go somewhere, but in no time they are back. I behave myself while they are gone and watch for them from my fireplace position. I usually get up when called to go outside or downstairs now. Most evenings we go downstairs and watch TV. There was a dog barking on it the other night and I barked back. We had a thunderstorm the other night and Buck and I were scared. We both huddled at my foster dad's feet in the kitchen when he was working at the sink. I went to meet some people who are looking for a dog last weekend. They thought I was pretty nice, but not the dog for them. I'm sure there is a family out there that will be perfect for me and I will have my forever home!

Stella had a little vacation at Mark C's. They were great with her and we hope to return the favor sometime. She is back home now and none the worse for wear. She is eating better. Her evening meal is still eaten sometime during the night. We will have to come up with a way to get her to eat quicker so she can start sleeping in our bedroom and Buck won't eat her food. She has not asked to go out but has not had an accident since the second week here. She was with Mark's grandchildren and seemed to enjoy it very much. She even played a little with a couple of toys there. We brought both dogs to the lake one hot day. They were a little confused about what we wanted them to do, so they just waded a little, then we got out and sat on the dock awhile. Stella is a very sweet dog and is getting more used to our routines at home. She still hardly barks. She is "cringing" less when we pet her and want to take her out. She loves to run and would do well with a fenced-in yard. She will make leaps of progress in the security of her forever home. She is going to make someone a very good dog.
