Lucy (Mia 13-135)

Profile

Introducing Mia 13-135 to the world of RAGOMLAND.

M ia is a dark red golden female with gold highlights.  She was found by a family in Iowa as a stray and turned over to animal control.  Her family never came forward and she was at the shelter for a month with no interest for adoption.  She is now a RAGOM golden looking for her perfect family.

Age:  Vet estimate is 4 years.

Health: Heart worm negative and only health issue is treating hookworms in her stool.  Ears clean.

Vaccinations: Made current on all and will only require a distemper booster in 3-4 weeks with final dose of worming medicine.

Spay scheduled

Wt.  75lbs maybe only 5lbs over but good per vet.

Personality:  Happy girl who sit, shakes, and lays down to command.  Loves attention from her peeps.  Met my resident golden and resident minidoodle plus two other fosters with no issues.  Receives attention when other dogs are also there with no issues.

Because of her size very small children may get knocked over so older children might be better for her as she loves to be by her peeps all the time.  Currently she has free roam up to 7 hours with no issues.  I have petted her and put my hands in her dish to see what behavior she displays.  But, this is done only to verify her temperament while eating and she has displayed no guarding of her food.   Currently we are having thunderstorms and Mia is showing some mild anxiety by displaying a need to be where you are but this is the only behavior seen so far.  She is a really sweet girl and pretty laid back for so young.

Mia is available for adoption after her spay.  If you are interested please let your placement advisor .

In loving memory of Lucy

2010 - 2016

Our beloved Lucy was tearfully put to rest after losing her fight to cancer. This is our second RAGOM forever friend that has shared her love with us.

Lucy was a part of our family and had a personality and smile that was contagious. She will be missed by our family and many friends.

We first met Lucy, who was fostered by the same family that fostered our first RAGOM dog, Molly. We never thought Molly could be replaced, but Lucy was destined to be with us.

After meeting Lucy for the first time, our family gathered at a restaurant to decide if she was coming home with us. My wife and two children and I voted with secret ballots and we all decided that yes, we wanted her home with us.

Walking out of the restaurant, we were shocked to see a statute of the peanuts character Lucy. It was fate that she was ours!

In our short three years together, Lucy loved the water, loved chasing balls, and loved being with people.

This is nothing particularly unusual for a Golden, but Lucy behaved in a way that gave us nothing but fun, love and joy. I will never forget our times at the lake, our stays in hotels, our hikes on state trails, and of course our car rides to see Grandma. And she made us laugh and appreciate the ordinary things in life.

More than anything, Lucy wanted to be with us, spoke with us through her expressive eyes and showed us that she cared. I didn’t want to part ways with Lucy, but it was time. We needed to consider her dignity and suffering, not just my not wanting to let go. I hope Lucy felt as lucky to have us and we were so lucky to have her.

Hi, Lucy here.  Yeah!!  I found my forever family today.  I am one lucky dog.  I walked and played with them, and we all really had fun.  They liked me and I liked them, and in the end, I got to jump in their car and drive home with them.  Whew, I'm one happy pup. Love, Lucy.

Mia (Lucy) has been the perfect house quest.  Today she was transported to MN to her permanent foster home.  There, she will continue to have meet and greets with potential adopters after her new foster mom has several days to get to know her.  I will miss this affectionate golden with great manners in the house, car, and around other furbutts.  She has not shown any guarding of humans or chew toys and high value items such as raw bones are only given when they are in their own space with out competition.

Lucy went to the Iowa Volunteer RAGOM picnic on Saturday with my two resident dogs.  She had a great time and got along with a very large number of goldens and volunteers with that great golden smile, nose nudge, and paw forward ever so gently seeking attention from anyone willing to give it.

Lucy does love the water so I hope her adoptive family has a kiddy pool or lives close to water.  I have enclosed a couple of pictures from the picnic.  Enjoy!  Don't forget to let your placement advisor know if you are interested in this sweet girl.  She will not last long she is that great!

Mia or Lucy as I call her completed her spay Tuesday.  She rides very well in the car.  She is doing well and has not required corrections for licking her incision as she pays no attention to it.  Iowa Humane Alliance does tattoo their incisions in case she becomes lost and there is ever a question about her not being spayed.

Lucy has jumped/knocked down a hallway gate because of storms to get close to a human.  I was out of town and my sister was home and the dogs were gated on the lower level when she jumped/knocked down the gate.  She decided she needed a human close to make her feel safe.  If it is thundering and you are close she will find a corner to hunker down.  She does not pant/pace/bark or whine just wants to be in the same room as you.

Lucy continues to do well here with the pack.  One of her quirks is to drink water out of the toilet so the lid stays closed to stop this.  She prefers not to sleep on the dog beds but right next to the bed.  When she is given her food dish she is a delicate eater crunching each piece and often not finishing what she is given while gazing about the room.  She is eating separate from the ravenous fast eaters here so she has a chance to eat in peace.  She has not been jumping on me so I am hoping this has been corrected.  We will see when she meets someone new if this appears again.
