This dog came into RAGOM as his time was up at animal control, no one claimed this wonderful dog that we now call Ace.

Ace is a Golden mix, with all the feathering of a Golden with a splash of sable coloring. The vet estimated Ace to be around 1.5 years old, from the size of him and having such clean teeth. At the vet, he did test positive when they did the Lyme disease test. RAGOM had informed me that a positive test doesn't always mean they have the disease, a dog could have had the Lyme vaccine that triggered a positive. The Vet Society of Internal Medicine does not recommend treating unless the dog is showing symptoms of lameness, which Ace sure isn't. He was treated for an ear infection when he came into my care. Ace is scheduled to be neutered March 22.

In the 5 days he's been here, I haven't caught or found any potty accidents in the house. He's well-behaved in the house, no counter surfing but occasionally I catch his nose sniffing the garbage. Ace knows the basic commands: sit, wait, down, and my favorite, shake.

When he arrived at my house, he was instantly attracted to my female dog, Mollie. Since then, they love to play and wrestle. They can play pretty rough, but I notice Ace will take his turn being on the bottom, so he does play fair. My male dog, Ollie, did give him a few growls the first day; in response, Ace would back away. One thing I did notice about Ace, he doesn't like to share toys with the other dogs. There was a couple of quarrels over toys, so right now I have them all put away. Otherwise, all the dogs get along with each other. Even though Ace doesn't like to share toys with other dogs, he will share with the humans. I gave him a raw bone to chew on and was able to exchange the bone for a treat easily.

Ollie, Mollie and Ace had enjoyed their car ride.

It seems like Ace likes being around other dogs, but would be fine as an only dog. He would benefit going to a dog park or doggy day care if he was an only dog.

Ace is a friendly dog. He welcomes visitors with a wagging tail and jumping up on them out of excitement. He does fine with my 2 cats. Most of the time, he'll ignore them, but when Mollie starts chasing them, he will join in. When going for walks, I do use a Gentle Leader as he does like to pull on the leash.

There's a only a couple requirements for Ace:

  • A physical fence. He came in as a stray, so he might be an escape artist or likes to explore away from home.
  • Children over 10 years old. While watching him react to my dogs taking a toy from him, it would be best if he was in a home with no young ones

Did I mention Ace has a favorite spot to rest? He does like to go on our couch, his favorite position is on his back. It's so cute to look at!

It's hard to believe we've only had Ace one week. He's fit in so nicely with all our kids (furry and people). He is a very sweet lovable dog, and everyone is enjoying him. He may not look 100% Golden but his personality sure is. He can fetch for what seems like hours, follows us around from room to room, and sits at our feet when we watch TV. Now if we could just get some nice weather we could go to the dog park, I know he'll love it.

Here is a picture of Ace and Copper, aren't they cute together? I didn't even have to bribe them to sit so nicely.

We absolutely love fostering Ace. He's the kind of dog we can't stop talking about how cute he is. Last week, I played a new game with all 3 dogs, hide-and-seek in the house. I did about 5 rounds and every time I would peek my head out to look, Ace would be running around the house frantically looking for me. I think that shows the type of dog he is.

I swear half the time he is on his back with paws up.

With all of the snow gone, we have gone on more walks around the neighborhood. I now use the Easy Walk Harness on him but he still pulls a little. Every day, though, we play fetch in the yard. He absolutely loves it and is pretty good at catching the ball in his mouth.

Like the vet said, Ace was back to his normal self by day 3. I was happy to see his wagging tail again.

Recently I took Ace over to my mother's place, where she has an older Puggle and a cat. The two dogs met outside, did their sniffing and everything was fine. While inside, both dogs got along fine. They mostly ignored each other for the 5 hours I was there. The cat, who was a little leery about this bigger dog, would walk by Ace, but Ace just ignored him. My mom was very impressed by how well behaved he was and said he could come back to visit anytime (as my two dogs aren't allowed at her place anymore cause they are too rowdy).

I still would like Ace to go to a family with a physical fence and with kids 10 and older.

It was great to see all of the Ace fans at the Coon Rapids Meet and Greet.

Ace is fitting well in our home. I now am able to have all the fun toys and bones out. He has gotten better on sharing toys with my two dogs, but there's still room for improvement. They like to play tug-of-war and taking tennis balls from each other's mouths. If he were to live with other dogs, he would do best with dogs that are more on the submissive type and are socialized to sharing toys with other dogs. When playing outside, he favors the Chuckit ball over the Frisbee.

A typical week, I am gone at work for 8 hours a day. He has total free roam in the house with my 2 dogs.

When I take Ace out of the house, I use a Gentle Leader on him. Like most dogs, he isn't used to it and doesn't like it. I plan on getting a Easy Walk Harness to see if walks will be more enjoyable for Ace and myself.

I thought it was too cute when I went to sit on the couch to watch TV. After a couple of minutes, Ace, who was already laying down on the couch next to me, got up to come snuggle with me.

Ace is still looking for his forever home. If you think Ace would fit in with your family, please contact your placement advisor.

This is what I wake up to every morning.
Can you find Ace? He's the one in the middle.

I would consider Ace as a velcro dog. He follows me from room to room, then lays down within a few feet of me. A couple of times now when I am sitting in my computer chair, he'll climb up on my lap. That's pretty short-lived as he's to big to hold on such a tiny chair. He does sleep on the bed with us. When going to bed, he starts out all curled up in a ball, and when I wake in the mornin,g he is sprawled out on his back.

During eating time, while my 2 dogs scarf down their food, Ace takes his time. Ace has no resource guarding with his food, as my 2 dogs try to catch a sniff of his bowl. I forgot to mention in his initial bio, Ace is at the perfect weight, 60 lbs.

Right now when I go to work, I am crating him for up to 8 hours. I do have to bribe him with a stuffed Kong to get him in the crate. Some days he's quiet in there and some days he'll bark when I leave. Once he is fully healed from his neuter surgery, I am going to slowly give him the privilege to have free roam with my other dogs when I am gone.

Ace is a wonderful dog to have. I believe he could adjust to a new environment quickly. Over the week, we had a lot of people coming to our house. He'll go up to them for pets or even cuddle with them on the couch.

Ace had found a stuffed toy in the yard and Mollie went right up to his face to grab the toy. No reaction from Ace as they started to play tug-of-war. I did intervene as he is still healing from the surgery. But that seems like a great start from a week ago. Once Ace is healed, I am going to start introducing toys to see if Ace will share, now that he is settled more in our house.
