Duke 12-257

Please welcome Duke to the RAGOM family! Duke is a sweetheart. He is an 8 year old male golden mix who weighs 72.5 lbs. Duke was surrendered to a local shelter by his previous owner. Now with the help of RAGOM, Duke is finally getting to begin his golden life.

Duke has been to the vet for his initial check-up. We wanted to deal with Duke’s most urgent issues: his ears, skin, & hips. Duke is currently being treated for a bi-lateral ear infection which we are already seeing improvement on. Duke also had a severe flea infestation in the past that caused a skin infection which is currently being treated by antibiotics. This too is clearing up after such a short time. The best news is Duke is being treated with anti-inflammatories for his hips and he is a new boy. Duke is now full of energy and zest. He definitely doesn’t act like an 8 year old boy!

From the moment I picked up Duke, he greeted me with a wagging tail and a smile on his face. Duke took the two-and-a-half hour ride home with no problem. He certainly loves his car rides.

Duke took treats nicely from our first hello. He knows some commands already. Duke can sit, shake, lay down, and drop when he has a toy. Duke is very eager to please. He was very excited to meet his new four-legged foster brother and one-year-old foster sister.

Wonderful news, Dukester has never had an accident in the house. When Duke needs to go outside, he goes straight to the back door. It’s pretty impressive for being an outside dog his whole life. Duke loves the backyard. I do not think Duke would need a fence in his FURever home once he learned his boundaries. He has helped me garden on several occasions and will lie right beside me. He spent his first two nights in a kennel but now has the full run of the house at night with our RD. They both curl up at the foot of the bed, and Duke is perfectly happy being near his people. I would trust Duke to be home alone outside of the crate but we have not tried it yet. Duke quickly made friends with our three-and-a-half year old RD Cashew and our daughter. Dogs, kids, noise? Duke says the more the merrier. Cats are one area where it is a bit unknown. We don’t have a cat, but, if you had a very dog savvy cat and some supervision for the first few days, I think Duke would welcome another friend.

We recently have had several storms so we have determined that Duke has little to no storm anxiety. As long as he has his people, he couldn’t care about what is going on outside which is more than I can say for the RD. Duke likes to follow his foster parents from room to room. He always comes over to offer a kiss whenever we go somewhere. He does listen very well when told to lie down. Duke also loves to play with all kinds of toys. He becomes a vibrant youngster again when you throw a toy for him.

Duke is currently scheduled to go back to the vet in about a week to check on his hips, ears, and skin. At this time he will be getting a few a more RAGOM health checks, and then he will be ready to meet his FURever family. I’m sure the vet will give this wonderful boy the all clear.

Updates

Foster mom here, Duke and I thought we would update on some of his great news. Duke was recently transported to a new Foster Mom in the cities. Now he will be able to attend all the wonderful foster events. Duke is still our great laid back boy. He has adjusted very well to his new Foster mom’s house. He has even claimed her bed as his own; he did that at my house too though.

Duke is such a silly boy. Duke still loves his people and to play with squeaky toys or tennis balls. Duke is ideally looking for a laid back household that just wants a best friend companion. Duke loves to please his people. Duke has come a long way with his manners since coming into RAGOM. Duke only barked at the doorbell once at Halloween and this Foster mom couldn’t be prouder of the progress this sweet soul has made. Duke & his foster bother even earned their own special “Trick or Treat.”

If you are looking for a sweet laid back boy that is eager to please then look no further. Contact your placement advisor to meet Mr. Dukens as he is now in the cities and a much closer drive. J

Foster Mom here, Duke & I are WAY overdue for an update. Duke travelled to GOLDZILLA & had an amazing time. Duke met many two and four legged friends alike. He did a great job at the foster tent, walk, and foster showcase. Back home Duke has continued to improve on his recall. He still really loves to be close to his people, still follows you from room to room. Duke also loves to play, don’t let his age fool you. He can chase after the “Chuck-It” faster than our 4yr old resident dog. Duke is an amazing boy that would fit in well in almost any home. This is a short list of what he needs in his forever home:

  • An easily accessible home and yard, he is currently fostered in a two story home and gets around just fine
  • Duke is great with dogs, cats, and kids of all ages. Currently lives with a one year old and is perfect with her
  • A yard is not necessary for Duke as long as you train him about his boundaries and continue to work on his recall
  • Another dog is not necessary for Duke but he certainly does enjoy the company
  • Duke does get free run of the house when we are not home as long as everything tempting is put away (like the garbage) J

Duke is simply a very sweet boy looking for his forever family. If you think that may be you please contact your placement advisor for more information. Thank you for stopping by Duke’s page.

Hi, Duke here again. FM says it’s time for another update. A lot has happened in the last two weeks. I got to go meet one of my FB’s, Louie 12-164. Louie let me meet the cat at his place. FM said I did great meeting the cat. I didn’t mind it at all; I actually curled right up to her. FM said this was perfect behavior. I also got to play with Louie & his FB’s while I was there and that was exciting. Four dog boys in one house was a lot of activity but it was a great time and I slept a lot when I got home. FM lets me have the run of the house when she leaves. I’ve officially claimed the spare bedroom as the best dog bed in the house. It’s my favorite place to watch out the window. Oh, I guess there was one thing I did when FM was gone, I got into the trash can. I’m not really enjoying my diet so now FM puts the trash in the bathroom and closes the door before she leaves. I’ve haven’t had any more problems since. I should also tell you I really love my routine. I know what time I get fed, when FD leaves for work & when he should be coming home. I even know what time FS takes her naps & I like to think I help FM & FD help with her bedtime. I curl up by her crib while they are busy doing there bedtime routine. I’d sleep in there all night with her, but FM won’t let me. Instead I get to sleep in bed with FM & FD so I think it’s a good trade. Here is a quick update of what I need in my forever home.

  • Lots of love and attention. I like to go wherever my people go. A routine is very important to me.
  • I need daily walks or activities outside. I really like food so I struggle to keep my weight down.
  • I’m great with kids, cats, & dogs of all ages. I’m a pretty easy going loving guy that just wants to be nearby.
  • I don’t need a fence but I can wander so you need to keep a close eye on me until I know my surroundings.
  • I do need one pill twice a day but I eat it with my food so I don’t even notice it.

FM says we are going to GOLDZILLA on 9/22. I get to take a car ride with my FB, SO EXCITING! FM says we will be at the Foster Showcase tent @ 10:00 am if you are interested in meeting me. I will also be in the Foster Dog Parade in the afternoon. If you are interested in meeting me please contact your placement advisor. I can’t wait to shake paws with you!!!!

SEE YOU THEN!! -Dukers

Hi, Duke here! FM said I could write the update this time. I had my vet appointment yesterday. The vet says my skin and ear issues are all cleared up. She was so happy with me I tried to give her a kiss. She also said I’m heartworm free (apparently this is very good)!! The vet did tell me I need to stay on my anti-inflammatories but I’m okay with that because I feel so much better on them. I don’t know why they keep calling me a senior; FM says I’m just the perfect mix of young and old. I’m always near my people and can be as active or laid back as they want. I enjoy sitting and getting lots of pets but I also love to fetch the “chuck-it” if you will throw it for me. FM thinks it’s pretty funny to watch me run around with the ball after I get it, apparently I’m not supposed to play keep away. Oh did I mention I love car rides, you could take me anywhere. FM told me I’m a pretty good gardening companion too but I don’t think she planned on me sitting in her flower bed. FM says I now get free reign of house now too. No more crate for me when she goes to the store, I now take my place on guest bed and watch out the window til FM & FS come home. Foster mom says I should let you know what I really need in a family:

  • Someone to show me lots of love and attention when they are home. I’m happy with just laying by you, being petted, or playing together with my toys. I’m a pretty easy going guy.
  • Someone to give me one pill twice a day. I’m convinced they are treats anyway.
  • Someone to take me on a walk everyday or throw a ball for me in a yard. I do enjoy my exercise but a family of runners is probably not for me. I do pull a bit on a flat collar so an easy-walk harness works best for me. I don’t like the gentle leader around my nose. It scares me a bit.
  • I also really need someone to continue to work with me on my “selective hearing” as FM calls it. I know my commands very well just sometimes I choose not to do them. FM thinks continued positive reinforcement is needed.
  • I haven’t told FM if I like cats yet, we don’t have one here. I haven’t met one in the neighborhood either. I do like the to chase the rabbits that come into the yard with FB so FM has decided to take me to another Foster’s house this weekend to be cat tested. YA road trip!
  • FM says I could be okay without a fence. I love the outside so much I may wander a little but once I learn my boundaries I do very well.
  • I’m also great with kids. I think my FS is funny but FM has us keep our distance since she is only 1. FB & I don’t want to knock her down. FM does think I need a little supervision while playing with kids though. If they have a toy I can get excited & jump. It’s only happened once with FM but until my new family is used to me I don’t want to knock anyone over.

If you are looking for a dog that loves to give lots of affection, follow you from room to room, and spend time outdoors I may just be the dog for you. Contact your placement advisor, FM would love to talk to you.
