Meet Jadyn, a 9 year-old, pure bred, spayed, female Golden Retriever. She is one sweet girl!

Jadyn wasn't always receiving her meds on a regular basis and was being fed people food. She came into RAGOM care about 30 pounds overweight and very sore in the back end. She has mild-moderate arthritis in her hips and torn ACLs in both knees. Surgery can be done on her knees but she needs to lose weight first in order to have the best recovery.

Jadyn has made great progress in her first week in foster care.

Day one it was tough for Jadyn to stand long enough to go potty but by day two she was following us around the yard. One week later and our friends have commented on how much better she is getting around. She can walk a couple house lengths before needing to rest. But she rests a few times on the way back home. She loves her walks though. When she sees neighbor dogs out on her walk she now whines because she wants to go meet them.

Day one Jadyn totally ignored the ball that I handed her. Now she will seek out and fetch tennis balls. She's also been rolling around on her back in the grass. I think she's learning how to be a dog again. Remember that windy storm on Friday night? Our firepit is full of sticks that came down in it. Jadyn spent a good portion of yesterday afternoon pulling out sticks and shredding them into small pieces. It took some clean-up afterwards but I figured every little movement is burning calories, right?

Jadyn has met 9 dogs, 7 kids and about 20 adults and she did great with them all. She loves to be petted! When the 10 month-old was crawling towards her yesterday, she turned and crawled TOWARDS him. How cool is that!?!? The other kids were ages 5 - 10 and she loved all of them. Her previous owners said she was fine with cats, but we haven't tested that.

There are so many more good things to tell about Jadyn, but those will have to wait. For now, we are going to focus on helping her lose weight so she can have knee surgery. She's down to 95.2 pounds, so check back often to track her progress. If you've ever had a dog that had knee surgery you know how expensive it is. If anyone could contribute, Jadyn would really appreciate it!

Hi, it's Jadyn! Thank you Dr. Rasmussen and all the staff at Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital for fixing my knee! It's only been a week, but I already feel great! I feel like running now but Foster Mom says I can't run for several more weeks. What fun is that? I didn't feel much like running when I got here but, now that I'm a slim 76 pounds, I want to run! I get my stitches out on Friday. FM keeps bending and straightening my knee - she calls it physical therapy. I don't mind it except when she puts those ice packs on my knee. Doesn't FM realize they are cold? Duh! Even I know that! Oh yeah, then there's that cone that they put over my head. Is this some new kind of fashion statement? She keeps telling me "Just until Friday". They take the cone off when I'm laying by them but I am kind of sneaky and, if I want to lick my knee, I'll try to sneak out of the room. For awhile they had this big pillow around my neck but FM says I can't use that because I can still reach my knee. I'm enclosing a photo of me sporting my purple bandage! I think I look quite dashing in purple, don't you?

Let's see, what else can I tell you? I really like living here because people come over to visit and they all like to pet me. For some reason they don't want me in the middle of the circle. They keep telling me that "fire is hot!" I don't even know what fire is. It must be the area where the marshmallows are cooked. I just want to be near the food and the petting. Maybe one of these days they'll make me a s'more.

On Saturday afternoon, FD brought this bag into the house and it had new tennis balls and treats in it! Yay for me! I love, love, love tennis balls! My 2 foster fur-siblings were pretty tired so they must have done a long walk that day. FM told me that maybe next year I can go to Goldzilla with my new family. I don't know what Goldzilla is but, if my family is going there, I want to go too!

Well, it's time for me to sneak away from the computer and try to lick my knee. Hope to see potential forever families soon!

Jadyn is doing so well! She weighed in at 78.4 pounds! Now you can feel her ribs and spine. She's almost at her ideal weight. She takes Tramadol for pain and Rimadyl for inflammation twice a day. Losing weight and getting her pills on a regular schedule has made all the difference in the world! She is so much more active than before and has gained a lot of muscle strength. A couple times she's been able to do our .95 mile walk, which we walk in about 25 minutes. It's somewhat hilly territory too. It's amazing! I still remember her first weekend with us when we walked one house length and stopped to rest several times on the way back.

She will probably have ACL surgery towards the end of September. If she hasn't had the surgery yet, she'll be at Goldzilla, so make sure to stop by and check her out. I just know that there's a family out there that will fall in love with her. We have to keep reminding ourselves "we are just dog-sitting..."

Jadyn has meds to take but don't let that keep you from pursuing adopting her. She is house-broken, never chews anything inappropriate, walks well on a leash and always comes when she's called. What more could you ask for?
