Hannah 12-245

Profile

It is our pleasure to introduce stunning Miss Hannah! Hannah is an 8 year old spayed purebred Golden Retriever who was surrendered to RAGOM because her owner traveled for work and felt Hannah deserved a family that could spend more time with her.

Hannah was able to see the RAGOM vet on her first day with us. She weighs 75# which is a good weight for her. She is heartworm and parasite free and her blood work was normal. Hannah was UTD and is now microchipped. She does suffer from allergies and has a slight skin infection from scratching herself so she's on antibiotics and an antihistamine. We're going to try a high quality food, lots of brushing, and weekly baths to see if that helps with her itchiness. Her right ear is infected. The vet gave it a good cleaning and we'll continue to clean and administer medicated drops for the next couple of weeks.

I wish I could put into words how cute and sweet this girl is! She's on the short side with a beautiful long light blonde coat. She doesn't walk, she prances every where she goes. She has the beautiful frosted face of a mature Golden, but that is the only sign of her age. She hops right into a car, up on a bed, and keeps the pace brisk on our early morning walks. At first she pulled like freight train with a flat collar, but accepted a Gentle Leader with only occassionally trying to rub it off in the grass. This morning I walked her with just a flat collar and she did much better. She is 100% housebroken and has free roam while we're gone for a full work day. She contentedly lays on the kitchen floor when we leave for work.

Hannah follows us from room to room when we're home and loves to be petted and have her ears rubbed. She knows how to give the Golden nudge or Golden paw for attention, but she's not overly needy. At night Hannah sleeps quietly in our bedroom or in the adjoining master bath.

We live on a lake and Hannah LOVES the water. She likes to walk in it, stick her nose in it, lay in it, and especially retrieve her tennis balls from the water. She loves a good back roll in the grass when she's done in the lake.

Hannah was the only dog at her previous home. She's not crazy about sharing her space with resident dogs Josie (3) and Bailey (11). Josie has opted to avoid Hannah and Bailey chooses to ignore her. So other than some grumbling on Hannah's part we haven't had any squabbles. Until we see Hannah enjoying the company of other dogs we're going to say Hannah would do best as an only dog. She met the resident cat without a problem.

Hello RAGOM volunteers Kim, Susan, and Rhonda,

Just thought I'd send you a random hello and thank you for helping me find my dear RAGOM dog Hannah.

She and I have both learned a ton in the last couple months. She now walks at my side like a champ (thanks to training with an Easy Walk harness, WOW that thing blows a Gentle Leader away!), and she consistently follows hand signals or spoken directions for sit, wait, lay down, come, etc. We're still working on ignoring (not snarling at) other dogs and "leave it" with accessible food, though with close supervision and quick treats/distractions from my pocket that's coming along well. She's almost ready for Therapy Dog certification, then I'll be able to take her to work every day doing stroke rehab in nursing homes. She's been coming to a few work sites a couple times/week and the residents and staff LOVE her. She's amazing with kids too (see pix).

Her hair has all grown back and her infections cleared, though her allergies are still a huge issue. She on high quality Fromm's grain-free food (used for treats, too), fish oil, and Benedril every day. She still has hot spots erupt now and then, but they clear pretty well with Sulfodene. She's off the steroids for now, hope to keep it that way.

Hope all is well with you and your lovely Goldens.

RELIEF! That's what Hannah said when we put her on a low dose of prednisone. The itchies are over and she's doing great. The plan is to taper her dose over the weeks to find out what level will keep her itchies at bay, and that's the dose she'll stay on until seasonal allergy season is over.

I LOVE YOU! That's what Hannah said to her new mom when they met! Hannah's new mom was looking for a calm and friendly dog that could go to work with her every day. Hannah's new mom lives right across the street from a lake and has promised Hannah loads of lake time. Talk about a match made in heaven!

Hannah is a delight to foster, she is a sweet go-with-the-flow kind of girl. She loves every person she meets and is very gentle about saying hello. She LOVES her walks and even in this heat thinks a mile long walk is not nearly long enough. We live on a dead end road so our normal walk ends when we get to the county road. As soon as we turn towards head home Hannah plants her feet and needs a little coaxing to get moving in the right direction. I think it's hilarious this sweet little girl has a bit of a stubborn streak in her.

Hannah loves the water and has been enjoying lots of swimming and pontoon rides. She certainly recognized the sound of a chipmunk! One little chipmunk chirp sends all three dogs scurrying around the shrubs hoping there will be chipmunk for lunch. When we're not busy in the yard or in the lake Hannah is content to lay close by and keep an eye on things. We've had lots of fireworks around the lake and loud noises do not bother her.

Hannah enjoys being brushed and has been enjoying a daily bath in our outdoor shower. She let me trim her nails without a problem.

Hannah's allergies are still bothering her. I promised the vet I'd give the first round of meds at least a week to work. On day 6 we saw a slight improvement so we'll continue with the current meds for a couple more days and then decide if we want to try something different.

As you can see in the pictures the dogs are doing well hanging out together when we're busy doing things. However, during our down time Hannah still likes her space and will occasionally give warning growls if she feels one of the other dogs is getting too close. For this reason we still think Hannah would be happiest as an only dog.

Happy Hannah
