Murfy 12-208

Profile

I picked up Murfy on 6-2-12 and transported him and 12-204 Sibu back to Iowa. Murfy was crated during the transport because transporting two big dogs was just safer that way. His intake indicated that he got carsick but I had no issues with that and neither did the person who brought him from Minnesota to meet me.
This is what I’ve learned about Murfy in the few days we’ve had him:He loves to play ball and will chase it and bring it back, dropping it at your feet, for as long as you’re willing to throw it.He inhales his food but will take treats gently from your hand. You can take his food dish from him but he will continue to try and eat from it if you do.He pulls, hard, on a flat collar but is getting better every day at walking with a gentle leader but still doesn’t like it.He is a velcro dog. If you’re up and moving, he will follow you every step. If you sit, he will sit or lay down too. FM & FD work from home and after exercise, he’s very willing to just lay on the floor of one of our offices. He hasn’t shown any desire to get on the furniture. He loves to get pets but is doesn’t give many kisses. He loves to play ball.
He has happily met several people with no issues and does very little jumping up in greeting except first thing in the morning after he’s been crated all night. He has pretty much ignored the neighbor’s dogs and because we don’t currently have a resident, I’m unsure how he is with other dogs but before coming here, he lived with his brother, Rex 12-207. We don’t have cats so unknown on that too but he has supposedly been around them with no issues.
His signs to go out are very subtle, pacing or sometimes nudging the door knob, because of that, we’ve had a couple of accidents. These were simply because FM and FD weren’t playing close enough attention. He doesn’t like to go outside by himself and will stand at the door looking in, and not move, if someone doesn’t go out with him. This may be because he’s still not completely comfortable here yet or because we don’t have a resident dog to show him the ropes. After all, he’s always had his brother with him before now.For a 15 month old dog, he is very mellow but still has lots of energy. He’ll need to be walked regularly along with playing the ball with him.
He really doesn’t like to be crated but will willing go in when told “kennel up” because he knows he’s going to get a treat for being such a good boy. He gives a few whines and a couple of barks and then settles in for the night.Did I mention he likes to play ball?
He goes in next week to get his wellness check-up and to get micro-chipped and will be ready for adoption after that.

PRESS RELEASE
Murfy Red Dog Gives Interview!!
Murfy Red Dog, affectionately known as Murfy or Murf to his fans, gives his very first interview! Murfy, star of the back yard and ball chasing fame, took some time off of his sidewalk tour to talk to us.
Reporter: Murfy, we haven’t heard much from you lately. What’s going on?Murfy: Well, after working hard for 15 months, I decided to take a break and explore different areas of the country. I left Minnesota and am currently staying with some people in Iowa that I affectionately call FM and FD. They are helping me prepare for my next starring role by giving me a place to stay. They took me to the vet and had me checked out to make sure that I was in top condition. I was and the vet passed me with flying colors for future roles. She said I was, at 70 lbs, a good weight and that I was very muscled which I need to be to compete in ball chasing. She said that as long as I kept my weight in this range, I won’t have any problems jumping for the ball. The vet also put something in my back so that if I ever wander away when researching a role, whoever finds me will know where I belong and can get me back to the set. FM & FD are also helping me fine tunes some things.
Reporter: Like what Murf?Murfy: They’re really working on my ball chasing skills and have provided me with at least three different balls to choose from when we go out. They take me out to check out the local sidewalk every day. They are teaching me to use a new kind of lead, called a gentle leader. It doesn’t allow me to smile for my fans as wide as I normally do but I’m getting used to it. They also tell me it presents a much improved image for me if I’m walking next to them instead of pulling away on my own.
Reporter: What is your next starring role going to be?Murfy: It’s kind of up in the air right now but in the scripts I’m looking at, there’s one that has me moving again, maybe back to Minnesota. I move in with a new family that I will be with always and they are the ones that will help me get to the ball chasing championships again. They’ll provide me with a large area in which to chase the ball, preferably fenced so the ball stays in a reasonable area. I’d like to have my own bed so I can stretch out at night. I prefer my bed and the floor to any of those over-stuffed things that FM & FD sit or lay on. I really like having someone around all the time. That way we can work on the ball chasing at any time but I have been left by myself for around 3 hrs. That was fine; I just took a nap but was really ready to chase the ball when my FM & FD returned. I like being able to roam through the house looking for the best place to sleep when I don’t want to sleep on my bed. I’ve found during these hot days, that there’s this thing on the floor that cool air comes out of. It’s a perfect place to lie especially after a ball chasing session. It probably wouldn’t hurt me to go to school for a while and fine tune all my cues. My recall is very good and I sit on command but stay and down are still a bit of an issue.
Reporter: Do you know who your co-stars will be?Murfy: Not yet. I’m assuming one or two larger humans.
Reporter: Any other co-stars?Murfy: I have worked with smaller humans in the past and really like them. While my current FM & FD doesn’t have any smaller humans, under the age of 12, around, I did meet a couple of bit players yesterday. FM said they were 3 & 5. I really liked them and let them pet me and pet me. I didn’t even mind it when the one that was 3 kept running in circles around me. The one that was 5 told her large human and FM that I could come live with her.
Reporter: Anything else you want to tell us?Murfy: Hm-m-m, let’s see. Oh, while I’ve worked with my brother Rex 12-207 in the past, he has decided to retire. Therefore, if working with other 4 legged co-stars, I would prefer slow introductions. While I wouldn’t do anything as crude as lunge or snap, I do let them know with a low growl that I AM the star. My signs to visit the facilities are getting better but because I don’t have opposable thumbs to let myself out, my co-stars need to pay attention when I start pacing. That means I have to go NOW, especially first thing in the morning. If someone isn’t paying attentions or wants to sleep a little longer, I’m embarrassed to say that accidents do happen. I mean when you gotta go, you gotta go. I really enjoy my food and have learned to slow down a little when eating. I guess it’s not good manners to gulp it down. I like treats as long as they are good quality. Unfortunately, peanut butter and lower quality treats seems to upset my stomach which causes me to make more trips to the facilities. I don’t try and get anything off the counters even when there’s something that smells really good up there. I’m really a pretty mellow guy as long as my new co-stars will take me for walks and play ball with me. Oh, looks like my manager is calling me. Got to go. Was nice talking to you.
Reporter: Murfy was called away to sign some autographs for his adoring fans but he wanted me to tell you that he’s hoping that his new script is finalized very soon so he can settle into his next and final starring role.
