Buddy 12-199

Profile

Buddy was originally brought into RAGOM as an unclaimed stray. He couldn’t have been a stray too long because he looks to his people for guidance. Unfortunately, Buddy was stuck in boarding until a foster became available. Lucky for us we were able to spring him after we found a new home for our last foster. Before I forget, I want to send a big Thank You to the staff at Stone Mountain Pet Lodge for taking such good care of him. I know it was bittersweet to see him leave, since you became attached to this cute little wiggle butt.

Buddy is a golden mix, weighing 34 pounds, neutered, and up to date. I am guessing he might be part Beagle or Hound. He is the size of a Beagle, with long ears and sniffs the ground on walks and in the yard like a Beagle or Hound would do. He has the coat color of a Golden Retriever and from the side he looks like a mini Golden. One thing is for sure, Buddy is a P-U-P-P-Y and 100% adorable. The pictures do not do him justice. We thought he looked like an old man in his photos, but in person he is a happy little pup. My husband and I couldn’t believe how little he was! He also sheds far less that our resident Golden. He is super soft with velvety ears.

Mr. Buddy could probably stand to gain a few pounds. He currently is happy to be kenneled during the day and has had no accidents. He is estimated to be 9 months to 2 years of age, so we can split the difference and say he is a 1 year old. He is super food motivated, so he should be easy to train. He knows how to sit. Last night I took the treat pouch on our walk and I was able to consistently get his attention and get him to sit for a treat even while distracted. We had barking dogs, police sirens and traffic, but he would sit, look up at me, and wait for his treat. We feel he would excel in obedience classes.

Buddy’s first foster had a cat which Buddy was way too interested in, so we will say no Kitty Cats for Buddy. Buddy was too much of an energetic puppy with the second foster’s dog and wanted to play too much for their dog. I did ask how Buddy was with the other dogs at Stone Mountain boarding and they said he did great. He is a puppy, so sometimes he will do inappropriate things, but he needs to have some canine correction to learn what is appropriate. We would suggest taking him to doggy daycare a few times to keep socializing him. Buddy tried mounting our resident dog Ally which she corrected. Buddy listens well to her and has responded appropriately to her cues. Ally is teaching Buddy some doggy manners! J

As mentioned above Buddy is a puppy, so he will need a puppy proof home. We have not trusted him with free roam yet even while we are home. He has a history of counter surfing so we keep the kitchen gated off. He did sneak a partial stick of butter from the butter dish last night, but that was our fault for not putting the butter away. Buddy loves to play , but is also to entertain himself with a squeaker toy. He is very eager to spend time with other dogs and humans. He will go into his kennel when we say “kennel”.

Buddy will jump up on the couch and our bed without invitation. He really is just wanting to be close to us and make himself available for us to pet and cuddle with him. We are working on him not jumping up unless he is invited. This will all come in time. Buddy would do well as an only dog or with another dog and would be best suited to have a fenced yard; this will also help you to ensure he is getting enough exercise.

Buddy is ready to meet his forever family and to get signed up for obedience class. Contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet this guy. We have not taken Buddy to an event before and we were informed the last event he went to he was a little anxious. So if you want to meet Buddy, please come early! We plan to be at the Apple Valley Petco on Saturday September 29th from 10AM to Noon.

We have great news to share about Buddy! Today he was adopted by his forever family. He will have a Mom, Dad, older brother and sister...and the bonus is he was have a fur brother too. We are so excited for him! This family was well worth the wait. Buddy is one lucky boy! They are planning to take him to obedience training and to keep socializing him.

Have fun with Buddy. I am going to have to turn up the heat in my house now; Buddy was such a snuggler I was able to stay warm with him on my lap.

Thanks for being such a good house guest enjoy your new family.

Ally, I found my forever family!

We have learned a few things about Buddy this past week. We met a great family on Wednesday and found out kids make Buddy nervous. We were glad to learn he would prefer to not be around kids. Buddy is meeting with another family this week…we are looking forward to see if he is right for them.

One of the things we love about Buddy is his sniffer! When he is in the car, he likes to have his snout right next to the vent, so he can smell where he is. He is just so cute!!

Foster Mom and Dad have been really busy lately! They owe you a few real updates. In the meantime, I figured I will send in a couple pictures of me! I want to make sure you remember I am still looking for my forever family. …Sure, Foster Mom, Dad and Sis are alright, but I am looking to really settle in somewhere!

The last “nice” day we had Foster Mom took me to the tennis court to chase a tennis ball. It was so fun!! Foster Mom even took a picture of a white spots; on my neck tail tip and back right toe. She says they are so cute! I think she might be picking on me though.

Please contact placement if you are looking for me! I love to cuddle!

Buddy is doing great with us, he listens well and enjoys playing with us and self entertains. He is a little disappointed our resident dog Ally won’t wrestle with him through J. We did get the two of them to play more together this weekend by taking them to a gated tennis court where we had them play fetch. Little did they know we were trying to tucker them out! Ally loved this interaction with buddy. Ally would play “Keep away” from Buddy if she got the ball first and Buddy would run his hardest to get to the ball first so Ally couldn’t play “keep away”. Buddy would usually beat Ally to the ball!

Buddy has settled in more since we have brought him into our home. He still eats fast, but we no longer worry about him eating too quickly. He loves to be near us and loves to snuggle. We have observed he definitely has a “bedtime”. If we are up past 10PM he will do a lot a sighing and staring at us, and trotting to the bedroom every time we head that direction, hoping we are going to turn it in for the night. When he finds out we aren’t going to bed he comes back to the family room reluctantly in anticipation for the next sign we might be turning in for the evening with his eyes trying to stay open keeping track of what we are up to.

We just wanted to thank everyone who came out to meet sweet little Buddy at PetSmart in Plymouth this weekend. This little guy is ready to meet his “furever” family. He was patiently waiting on my lap for part of the event. He would even lay on the ground with his legs “frogged” out. He does that a lot…we think it is so cute. Buddy is a quick learner and is sitting for us consistently. He even would sit and wait for us to throw the ball over the weekend.

Hello Buddy fans! If you want to meet Buddy in person, please stop by the Plymouth PetSmart Event this Sunday Oct. 14th 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

We took Buddy to Bubbly Paws last night for a self service bath. I have given him a bath at home before, but we wanted to see how he would do with a “salon” type of experience. He was terrified of the bath tub at first, but once he realized the tub came with treats he did pretty well. Buddy earned a spot on the Bubbly Paws Facebook page…I have included the picture in the update. The other people in the shop were in love with him!

If you are interested in Buddy, but are unable to make this weekend’s event in Plymouth, contact your placement adviser to set up you own personal meet and greet with him. You would be first in line to see if Buddy is right for you.

Hello Buddy Fans! If you are looking for an adorable puppy to train look no further…contact you placement advisor today. When we take him for walks people tell us how cute he is. We hope our new photos help show his cuteness.

We have had Buddy for two weeks now and over the last week he has been desperately trying to initiate play with our resident dog. She is not having it…she is still irritated with us for bringing a puppy into HER home. However, this has been good for Buddy. He is learning to read Ally and know when she is “serious” or when she can “tolerate” him. Ally is rounding out his social skills. Buddy does not need to live with another dog. However, if he does we think it would be best if he were paired with a dog with similar energy.

Cute things Buddy has done:

  • When I went down to our laundry room to grab the sheets out of the dryer, Buddy wasn’t getting enough attention so he hopped into the dryer to be where my attention was. I quick grabbed the camera to snap a picture. This shows you how little he is, there is no way our resident Golden could fit in there.
  • Not only does Buddy help with laundry but he Helped his Foster Dad with yard work today. He has been very interested in the ground near the compost and today we found out why. Buddy was sniffing so hard he was snorting, and then he dug up a dead mouse. Luckily, Foster Dad was near to keep him from retrieving the “treasure.”
  • Buddy will play fetch, but he seems to only consistently play with one of the balls we have. Not sure if it is the size, color, or smell.
  • We often catch Buddy snoring. He plays hard and sleeps hard. This guy is very teachable. He is a growing boy, so he can seem very hungry. We are working on counter surfing and calm meal times. We will ask him to sit in the kitchen and sit while we make his meal. We want him to relax, so he doesn’t eat so fast. Every day we see improvements!

If you have been thinking Buddy is right for you, contact Placement. We would love to talk to you to see if Buddy is a right fit for your family. We love having him around, but our resident dog would love to have HER house back. I will miss my cuddle buddy; he snuggles with us on the couch and in bed.

This boy is a great companion.

We just want to take a second to thank everyone who came to meet Buddy on Saturday. Everyone who met him thought he was so cute. People would turn the corner and say, “Aww, what a cutie!”

After the meet and greet Buddy was exhausted! He slept really hard in the car and when we got home. Hopefully some of these pictures will show his scale better. He really is a petite little guy and we do not think he will get a whole lot bigger. I took one picture with Buddy on the bed and resident dog, Ally next near him. Ally is a 70 pound Golden Retriever.

We have had Buddy with us for five days and he is just so cute! I took a video of him walking with me and taking treats, so you can see how cute he is. Click here  to take a look.

Buddy likes his walks and is fun walking partner; he turns around often to check with me. He does pull a little, but he is just learning how to walk on a leash. We walk him with the Easy Walk Harness and it helps. He can usually be found with his nose glued to the ground…there is just so much to sniff!

Remember to visit with Buddy this Saturday in Apple Valley. (Saturday 10-noon Petco)
