Hello world! My name is Malibu, I'm a purebred golden girl and I am looking for a forever home. Let me tell you my story.

First off, I just want you to know that I'm a gorgeous girl and I know it. I just turned 1 year last month and celebrated it with the only family I knew since I was 8 weeks old. They were very nice and had three small people for me to play with, however one of the small people developed an allergy. How someone could me allergic to wonderful me, I'll never know. Unfortunately I couldn't spend much time with my family, so they made the difficult decision to let me go and I'm looking for another home. Foster dad tells me I'm a petite girl, weighing in at 46 pounds with a slender build and I must be part "lap dog". I have beautiful brown fur that is very fine and soft and of course, I have gorgeous brown eyes.

Since I'm coming into my teenage years, foster dad let me start a blog which I'll try to keep updated here. In the meantime, dad wants to get back on the computer and tell you some more about me. So, keep tuned into my blog and I'll let you know about my adventures looking for a family that needs a GFF (golden friend forever) because I'm it!

Foster dad here. Malibu has been with us since Friday night and she sure is a sweetie, a real Velcro dog. She was a bit timid when she came to us but she seems to be adjusting nicely. We've had nothing more than the usual puppy issues, like running off and hiding shoes, trying to get into things she shouldn't, all typical puppy behaviors, but nothing destructive. She is housebroken, no accidents, kennel trained, and is getting along with both of our resident dogs. It sounds like Malibu hasn't had much experience with cats so we don't know how she would respond to them. She does well in our fenced in yard, respects the baby gates in the house, and is learning to walk on leash using a gentle leader. At 13 months, she does have a lot of energy and gets into playful moods where she demands attention and starts bouncing off the walls and jumping over furniture or anything else in her way. So, in other words, she's a typical puppy.

So far, Malibu seems to be learning from our older dogs and follows them around the house and out into the yard, learning the routine in the house. I think Malibu would do best with a family with an adult dog. A dog old
enough to teach Malibu, but young enough to put up with a puppy for the next year or two. Older kids in the house would be great and a fenced in yard for Malibu to run would be a bonus.
Malibu has not been spayed yet but has an appointment for later this week. She should be ready to start meeting families toward the end of the month after she recovers. Contact your RAGOM placement advisor if you would like to meet her. Until then, keep checking back for updates to Malibu's blog as she writes about new experiences she has.

Malibu here again. You won't believe what happened to me last Friday. I found what getting spayed means and I don't think I like it. FD tells me it's good for me but I'm not seeing much up side to it. It made my tummy sore and itchy and I was pretty sleepy all weekend, so I just chilled out in my kennel. Unfortunately I had to wear a funny cone over my head, which made it really hard to scratch my itching tummy. The only good thing to come out of this is I got PB on doggie biscuits because now I have my own medication to take. FD said it's only for three days, but if PB is involved, I'll take it. I was feeling much better by Monday so I started my blog up again.

Monday March 19th: FM and FD went to work today and I stayed home for 6 hours by myself in my kennel. It wasn't so bad, except for that funny cone on my head. I passed the time by ripping the zipper open in the end of my dog bed and pulling all the stuffing out of it. FD didn't seem very happy about it when he got home. But he cleaned up the mess and ended up tossing out the bed because the zipper was ruined. At least if someone comes looking for that white tag on my bed, they won't see that I pulled it off, so that's a relief. Didn't get my walk today with FD. He said I needed to take it easy for a while while I heal. He did give me a good tummy rub to help with the itching.

Tuesday March 20th: Another day in the kennel. I miss my nice soft doggie bed. The blankets I have in there now aren't nearly as soft and they don't have any stuffing to pull out. Hope I get a new bed soon. FD says I do really well in the kennel during the day but that I have too much energy when I get out. He kept me on my leash by his side most of the evening, but still no walk. He said I needed more time to heal before I go back to playing like a puppy.

Wednesday March 21st: FD stayed home from work with me today. He spent most of the day on the computer "working from home", so I got to lie around his office without the plastic cone on. He made me promise to not lick my tummy if I wanted to keep the cone off. In the evening, Ellie and I got a short walk down the street and back. I kinda miss the longer walks and hope I get to do more walking tomorrow. When FD wasn't looking today, I found some more rugs to pile up on the couch. Tried to get Ellie's dog bed to add to the pile but she was using it at the time. She didn't seem too happy about me pulling on it and growled at me. Guess I'll let her have it for now.

Thursday March 22nd: FD says my tummy looks completely healed and I lost the cone for the day. Ellie and I had a longer walk today. It felt great. FD said I am learning to walk really good.

Friday March 23rd: Another routine day. FD worked from home in the morning and went into his office for half a day in the afternoon. Got another walk after he came home and to meet one of my fence buddies next door, a cute little Springer Spaniel named Cooper. His mom had a new toy I never heard of before, called a Frisbee. It's even more fun to chase than a tennis ball. So Cooper and I played a while chasing the Frisbee, did a little wrestling with him, then we had to go home. Maybe I'll get to play with him again some time.

Saturday March 24th: Got to go to Petco for a meet and greet today! FD let me out in the yard for a few minutes right before we left and I found FM's flower pots on the deck. Guess she was going to be planting sometime soon and had fresh dirt in them. Well, they don't have much dirt in them anymore. So, got a quick bath and then headed out to Petco. I got to meet a lot of nice people. It was kinda overwhelming at first but I got used to it quickly. I of course charmed everyone because in my humble opinion, I was the best looking dog there. While we were there, I got a new doggie bed for my kennel. Can't wait to try it out. Anyway, gotta run now, FD said he wants to add his two cents worth.

FD here: Malibu recovered from her surgery really fast. By Monday of this week, the incision looked completely healed. We kept her on a short leash most of the week and limited her exercise to prevent complications, which isn't easy to do with her. Malibu can be such a high energy dog. She's been making great progress on her walks and is doing great riding in the car. We're trying to get her as many new experiences as possible to help her with being timid. We can't believe how quickly she learns new things. For example, at the Petco on Saturday she was a bit timid at first but soon warmed up to people. By the end of the day she was getting better about meeting strangers and getting attention. We have found that she does adapt quickly to each new experience and is a fast learner. We've had her for two weeks and she is making great progress. I think Malibu would do well in obedience training and it would be rewarding for her and her new family.

As far as a forever home, we are looking for someone that will continue working Malibu to get her some life experience and build her confidence. The perfect home would have a large fenced yard to keep her safe, a family with someone around most of the day so Malibu won't have to spent too much time in a kennel. Older children would be nice because Malibu does enjoy kids. And another mature dog, 2-6 years old, to be a companion for Malibu and help with her socialization, as well as be young enough to do some serious playing with her. And of course, someone that would appreciate all the love that Malibu is capable of giving.

I'm including some new pictures that we got at Petco. Hope you enjoy them.
