Shelby Lynn 12-063

Profile

Please welcome Shelby Lynn to RAGOM land. She was surrendered because of a move that she couldn't come along with. Shelby Lynn is a [supposed] 8 year old purebred Golden Retriever. She is petite [compared to my resident] and weighs around 50-60lbs. She is supposed to be spayed. She is a medium gold with blond highlights. A very good looking and fit dog.

Shelby Lynn goes to the vet Monday 2/27 to get up to date and checked out. No vet records came with her so she will get the full treatment. She seems perfectly healthy and has a high energy level especially for a 8 year old. I will update after the vet check .

Shelby Lynn was a bit nervous at the start of the hour ride to home but calmed down after a few miles. I would think this is a temporary thing because of all the changes in her life. More to update on that in the days ahead.

Shelby Lynn met my resident dogs with no real problems. She is not real interested in the house cat or outside cats. No problems with cats.

We went for a long [3 1/2 mile] walk with the residents with no problems. No problems with meeting the neighbor dogs either. She does the Zig-Zag of a hunting dog, so there may be some potential there. She is supposed to love water and swimming. I put Shelby Lynn in a large bathroom while I went to work yesterday and had nothing touched while I was gone. I kept her in the bedroom last night and she slept on the floor just fine. SO said she slept in bed some times. She is supposed to be crate trained but I haven't tried it yet.

Behavior: Shelby Lynn could use some work on jumping up when excited. She is pretty good most times . She seems to be a bit pushy with the residents. That may change after a few days here. Shelby loves to cuddle and will velcro herself to you. She loves to lay in your lap. Shelby Lynn knows how to sit, stay, lay down and shake hands. She has a strong Golden nudge. Loves attention.

Needs of a furever home for Shelby Lynn based on what I know so far:

  1. Lots of exercise. She has a high energy level
  2. A home with or without other dogs and cats.
  3. Lots of personal attention and a little work on manners

If this fits you, please contact your placement adviser. Shelby will be available after the vet check Monday 2/27 if all is good.

Updates

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Hi folks, Shelby Lynn here.

My FD thought I should do this update to help share the work and give my side of the story.  Since the last update I have been to the vet's office twice. I'm still a little nervous about riding at first but get over it quickly.  I got a bunch of shots so I am up to date on everything and some blood taken for testing. The vet says I am at my ideal weight now. I'm 64 lbs. The vet also said I am in excellent shape and obviously was well taken care of for my first 8 years. I was very good at the vet's office and didn't even flinch at all from the needles and getting checked out. FD was pretty proud of me for that. I didn't get my microchip because FD forgot it at home. We needed to come back for the test results and possibly more tests if needed anyhow.

We went back today and got my chip put in and found out I have round worms. The vet and FD said they are very common. I got some treatment for them and will need more in 2 weeks and another test to see if it got them all.

Back home I am getting more used to my 2 foster sisters Ziggy and Cheyenne. I even try to play some with Cheyenne. She's not real playful but does mouth and paw a little with me when provoked.

I have started to show off my agility to FD when he takes me outside now. I skid myself on my side in the snow very quickly as soon as we get out. I think it is fun. FD says he has never seen anything quite like it.

I have free roam of the house now all the time and have not gotten into anything at all. Me and my foster sisters take turns on all the dog beds and blankets that FD has for us. I did hop up in the bed a couple of nights but didn't stay long because I got too warm. I don't hop up on the couch or chairs at all.

I am somewhat of a velcro dog in that I want to be in the same room as FD. I do love having my personal time with FD and I try to get in on some of my foster sister's personal time. I will actually sit on FD if he sits on the floor. I sat on one of my foster sisters one day and they didn't like it very well ,for some reason.

FD says I am available for adoption now and will make some family very very happy. Here is a updated summery of what will make me a very happy girl:

*An active family with or without kids [FD hasn't seen me with kids but I am very gentle] I like to go for long walks. FD walks me over 3 1/2 miles a day now and I could go much further.

*A home with a big yard or areas for me to check out.

*Other dogs and cats are fine and I could go either way. I do like my foster sister cat and foster sister dogs. Lots of attention and some more training. I love to learn new things.

If you think you cold give me these things, please contact your placement adviser.

FD got some more pics of me.
