Riley 12-042

Profile

Riley is a 5 year old GR mix.  He is UTD and weighs 88 pounds.  Riley was a stray who found his way to RAGOM via a friendly shelter and veterinarian in SD.  Riley was a little shy at first, but as soon as he warms up to a person he just can't get close enough to you.  When I first got him home he didn't even know his name.  He didn't seem to know any basic commands.  But he met the resident dogs with no problems and within a couple days he was responding to his "new" name and learning basic commands.  He is very food motivated and excited to make people happy.

Riley has not had any accidents in the house and generally is fairly well behaved indoors.  He does have a bad counter surfing habit.  We are working on that.Riley had an ear infection and some minor inflammation from his neuter on January 31.  He is pretty good about letting me treat his ears, and was willing to let me trim his nails and check his teeth.Riley is a high energy, strong and athletic boy and needs a good deal of exercise.  I believe he would do well in a house with or without dogs, but would probably be best in a home with grown or no children.  He just doesn't realize how big he is, and he would probably take food from children.Riley came with a martingale collar and walks/jogs without pulling. He is a real sweetheart.  If you think he is a match for your home, contact your placement adviser.

Riley is finding his place in our pack. He is a big furry sweetheart! He is definitely a velcro dog, I think he would follow me into the shower if I didn't have a solid door. As you can see by the pictures he has settled down quite a bit after 10 days in the new home. He still has a lot of energy, but he is willing to curl up on the couch with me, or the resident golden. He sleeps through the night at the side of the bed, it took him a while to accept that the resident sleeps on the bed, but he had to sleep on the floor.

His counter surfing has been minimized because I have learned to put things he would be interested in away. Any garbage that would smell good to him goes outside in the can, only paper and wrappers can stay in the kitchen can.

Riley's best point, he has a golden personality and disposition, but being crossed with a lab, he doesn't shed near as much as the resident do.

He wants to make me happy, so he continues to learn quickly. A stern "no" is all that is needed for a correction. With some patience, training and lots of exercise, Riley will make someone a wonderful companion.
