Willy 11-433

Profile

I want to introduce Willy! He is a 20 month old male and incredibly cute. Willy is fostered in Bismarck, ND. He is 52 pounds and a beautiful light golden color. Willy has only been with us for 24 hours, but I'll share what we know so far.

Willy appears to be a healthy and happy dog. He is neutered and up to date on his shots. We have been told to watch for ear infections, but they seem fine now. Willy is an active dog. He loves to run and play, and is constantly chasing and wrestling around with our resident golden. Willy has a heart of gold and just wants to be loved. When I sit on the floor he will curl up on my lap. He likes to lean into my leg when I am standing so that I will reach down and pet him. He has had a few accidents in the house, but I anticipate that will stop as he gets used to our home. We are told he is house trained, so we are hoping to get that under control in the next couple days. He was great in the car and seems to do just fine on car rides.

Willy's adoptive family should be a family that is willing to exercise him and take him to obedience class. It doesn't appear that he is used to walking on a leash, but with the help of the gentle leader he is learning how to do that. He is a healthy eater and seems like he will eat anything! He loves to have something to chew on and especially enjoys Nylabones. If he doesn't have a Nylabone nearby, he will find a sock or rug to chew on, so we are making sure there are plenty of toys and bones. We have been crating him at night and when we are gone until we know more about him. I think Willy would do best in a yard with a physical fence or a family that is willing to take him out for plenty of exercise. He is going to need supervision until he learns what he can and can't chew on. He doesn't seem to understand basic commands, like sit or come, but if I hold up a treat he sits. So I think with some training he would learn very quickly. I think Willy would be happy with or without another dog in the house. If there is not another dog in the house, he will just want lots of playtime with his adoptive family. He is constantly playing with our resident golden, and today he met a beagle and a hound and loved playing with them and chasing them around the yard.

Because Willy is so energetic, he would probably do best in a home without small children. He has not been around children, and he may like them, but he is so energetic he may jump up on them. He has not been around cats so not sure how he would do. His adoptive home should be committed to consistent training and mental stimulation activities.

With his high energy, it is hard to get Willy to sit for pictures, but I was able to snap a few.

Willy is a very active dog who will need lots of exercise and training. He is incredibly sweet and just wants to please his family. Willy is a total sweetheart and whoever adopts him will be very lucky.

Willy is making great strides during his time with us. He has gotten very good at walking on a leash. Occasionally he tries to get his gentle leader off, but mostly he does a great job. He walks right next to me and seems so happy it looks like he's prancing. He probably wouldn't even need a gentle leader he is such a good walker.

I have changed my mind about small children. I think that Willy would probably be fine with small children. He doesn't jump up on our visitors, and he approaches them a little nervously. I don't think he would jump up on or knock over small children.

Willy has been going willingly into his crate when I leave the house. I think he would prefer not to be in the crate, but because he sometimes chews on inappropriate things, it is best for everyone right now. When he gets out of the crate he is very excited to play. He likes to run around with my resident golden or chew on bones. Because Willy has to be crated when I am gone, I think he would do best in a home where he would not have to be crated the entire day. But with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, he would be okay being crated part of the day.

In the evenings Willy likes to just lay near wherever we are. He seems pretty content just being around us. Once in awhile he will jump up and run around to check things out. He has puppy energy and loves to explore and play. If you think you can give this little guy the exercise and attention he needs, please contact your placement advisor.
