Hello World!  It’s me, Rex!  Well, that’s what they call me anyway…  I don’t really answer to it yet.  I probably had a different name before they found me as a stray down in southern Missouri, but I’m not telling.  FM says I am a darling, petite little fella, but who talks like that about a guy?!?  Am I right?  So, instead let’s say I am a handsome, compact young dude.  I will tell you that I am not just a boring old Golden Retriever, it took a very special (secret) recipe to make me!  I guess I am about 2 or so, but who really knows?  I am a man of mystery…

What I do know is that things are pretty great here at my foster house.  I have two fur-butts to play with, a fenced yard to run in and four two-leggers to love up!  I like full-contact snuggling and I’m real good at wiggling my body in super close and settling in for some lovin’. Check out my smile when FD is working me over with his scratching hands! A guy who met me at the vet yesterday thought maybe he should take me home, but then his wife stepped in with some mumbo jumbo about “two is enough” and “you can’t take home every cute animal”.  Geez, lady, a little Machiavellian don’t you think?  Anyway, I am a bit protective of my stuff and a little fresh with the other four-leggers around here, but we are working on that.  Right now, FM is keeping me on a leash all the time, too.  She says it is so I remember not to pee inside, but I think it is just as likely that she is using me to remind herself that she isn’t supposed to pee outside and neither one of us is supposed to potty on the deck!  It seems to be working for both of us—she’s kept her shorts on outside and I haven’t lifted my leg in the house!

I’ve got a special appointment for some bonding time with the vet on Thursday.  FM is a little vague about what we’re gonna be doing, but apparently it is a non-negotiable visit.  Once that’s done and I’m back home, she says I’ll be ready for my forever family!  Whoo hooo!   I’m not too picky, so if you have room in your house and your heart for a guy like me I think we can make a deal!

Hey everyone, it's me Rex and I have fantastic news to share with you.  Guess where I am?  Did you guess in a new foster home?  Did you guess in boarding?  If you did you were wrong.....I'm in my forever home!!!   Yup, that's right, your handsome young friend Rex has struck it rich.  I now have a dad all of my own and a house and a back yard and a whole family of folks to take care of me!!!   When my dad goes to work, especially on the days that he has to work long hours, I get to stay with my new grandparents.  I'm an only dog but I'll get some play dates and might check out obedience school with my new dad.  I'm so lucky to find not only a dad but a whole family just for me!!  I don't have to share him with any dogs, cats or anyone else, how cool is that??
I'd like to thank my foster families who helped me on my journey to find my forever home.  You guys are the best for taking care of me and helping me so I could be the best I can be. I know I was not always the easiest boy to take care of, sorry about that stuff, and thanks for sticking with me and helping me.  Also thanks to all the really great people who helped me, thanks to you I am now home.  I'll send more after I get settled in, but now I need to go check out some stuff in the house and soon we are going to surprise my grandparents with me.  They do not have a dog and have missed dog sitting for my dad so this will be fun.....I like surprises!!
Your friend Rex, the dog of mystery is now home!!

Well hellooooo Minnesota!!! Rex here!! I am slowly but surely making my way north to find my forever home. I heard that the weather may be cold up here but the hearts are warm and so I figure this is where I belong!

I am living with my new Minnesota foster family and I over heard them saying, "I am adjusting beautifully." We go on walks and I am such a gentleman on the leash-especially with the Gentleleader-but I have also walked on my flat collar and am getting better with every walk!

I love people...seriously people, the only difference between you and me is that I have a built in fur coat for this Minnesota weather! Speaking of my coat, it is Golden all the way. A gorgeous dark golden color, thick and soft with white on my chest, belly and paws and a little spot on my nose! It is like the cherry on top of a sundae-it just makes something wonderful even better! I am a petite boy-really the perfect size at about 40 pounds and my heart weighs 25 of it! I am very Golden looking until I hear something and up go my ears and then you see that I am extra special-I have a little something more than Golden in me!

As I have said in my posts before...I love to cuddle, flip on my back and have you rub me and oh and ah over my sweetness.

I am living with a 9 pound dog right now or is he a cat? Hmmmm...at moments I wonder. They say he's a dog and I guess I believe them. Anyway, we have had nothing but positive interactions so far but my foster Mom has complete control of the situation "until I earn her trust she tells me." I will keep you updated on our relationship. (As I type, we are both laying in the same sun spot on the floor....we need our vitamin D up north here you know! And these sun spots lend themselves so well to a nice afternoon snooze.) Truthfully, I would be as happy as can be with nothing but people in my family. Please don't interpret this as I don't like dogs or like to play. I do!

I am a young, small, healthy boy with so much love to give!!! Hope to meet you soon!

Hello Rex Fans! I thought maybe you would want to see him in action, so check out his video! He is working hard on his sitting, as you can see, and is getting pretty reliable as long as he has some wait time to think about it. He is hanging out in his kennel like a champ, and only gets rowdy in there when there is a lot of action he is missing out on. We consider him to be fully potty trained now, and haven’t seen any of his marking behavior for weeks! His “fresh” behavior, humping, has completely disappeared. At this point, I don’t know if it stopped as he got to know the residents, or if it stopped when he got neutered. One way or the other, you can expect that at worst, it is a behavior that will resolve as he gets more familiar with fur-friends.

Rex eats comfortably in his kennel without feeling like he has to protect his food from Archie and Clyde. We do give him a rawhide, but only when he is in his kennel. He is more interested in playing with it than eating it, so a ball or another toy would probably work just as well. He loves toys, but does not have access to them when he is with the other dogs. He continues to resource guard from the four-leggers if he has anything of value. He has no concern about his peeps, and lets us take away his stuff without complaint! Rex gets along great with Clyde, and loves to tussle and play with him. He and Archie do not mix well, and we keep them almost completely separated. We have found that when they are outside doing business, they don’t have issues interacting with each other. Inside things are ok, too, as long as everything is calm. If the doorbell rings, new people come in, the residents start playing, the kids start rough-housing – anything that raises the excitement level—then Rex and Archie go at it. Since we can’t predict some of those things, we keep them in different quarters.

I think Rex would do best in a home with adults and/or big kids. I know he would be fine without another dog, and might do ok with one as long as the family is committed to removing high value items from the dogs’ environment. He wants lots of attention from his peeps and LOVES to snuggle up! If you think Rex might be a good fit for your family, please contact your placement advisor!

Good news!  Mr. Rex has a special visitor driving all the way from Minnesota to meet him next week!  He is ready to show off his super friendly nature and his spectacular snuggling skills!

This little boy loves to be right next to his peeps in bed, in the chair, on the floor.  He has not had one accident in the house, despite a history of marking behavior, and has dramatically curtailed the “unwanted attention” he was giving the other pups in the house.  He still doesn’t like the other dogs getting too close to his stuff, but is fine with meet and greets and wrestling around without toys.  He would like to register a complaint about the vet, since he is pretty sure that no dog, under any circumstances, should have to spend a week being “quiet”.  Especially since “quiet” is a euphemism for being stuck in the crate while everyone else is playing!  But other than that one complaint, happy is Rex’s middle name.  I think he burns off half of his food with his constant tail waggin’.
