Merry Christmas, Annie! With love from Andrea

Merry Christmas Annie from your friends in Minnesota: Sarah and Grandpa Frank!

 Happy Holidays from anonymous

Hi, my name is Annie & I am nine years old and I came all the way from Watertown, South Dakota to stay with my FM & FD & their dog Jackson in Walnut, Iowa. I am so very happy to be here. I don't have to stay outside anymore, I don't have to be in a cement kennel anymore, people will make me feel better when I hurt and I don't have to have any more babies.

Foster Mom here: aren't we lucky to get to share our lives with precious Annie for a while. If their was a sweetness barometer, she would pop the top right off. When we picked up Annie Sunday, both the transporters and my husband and I were appalled at the condition of Annie. She was filthy, has sores from laying on the hard concrete and was evidently just weaned from puppies. Puppies at age nine!!

First of all came a bath which she didn't love but behaved perfectly. First night slept all night in the laundry room with not a peep and just a baby gate. She has eaten well, comes when called, can sit and stay. Not sure how much she has ever been in a house, but she sure thinks it is super-duper. Our pup Jack and she are already buds and totally share the water bowl,  toys and chew bones. We don't know about cats or kids yet, but am sure we would have not any kind of problem with kids. Any one under five would probably not be great, not because Annie would hurt them, but they may be too hard on her for now. She has not been treated kindly, she has a beautiful blocky head and pretty face, 65 pounds which surprised me and a somewhat scarred body. All Annie needs is someone to love her and treat her with dignity.

We visited the vet on Monday and because we know none of her history, she was given all her shots, had a thorough exam and had bloodwork done. She has a fatty tumor on back leg which is nothing, those calluses from the cement and nasty ears. We received some meds for ears and Doc said she had great teeth, all blood work came back great and that she obviously came from good stock. Next Annie will be micro-chipped and then spayed. Yay!!

Played ball yesterday, great retriever but has no idea what stuffed toys are for. LOVES the chew bones. We walked very nicely, sometimes likes to lead but did not need the gentle leader and boy can she make a bee-line for the back door!

Now the negative: because Annie probably has lived her life as an outside dog, she does not have household potty manners. We are diligently working on this and hopefully it will be remedied in a very short while. She does mind and aims to please.

We will let you know more about Annie as we get to know her better. If you would love to share your life with a little older gal who can give you years of devotion, please consider Annie, she deserves your love.

Annie and Jackson wanted me to share their fun with the wonderful laden-filled Christmas box they received from Annie's first transport family.  Wow, we were thrilled, what fun and how very generous!  Each dog received  their very own blankie initialized by Sarah and they have slept on them every night since arriving.  Thanks Sarah, Stephanie, Sawyer, Lisa and Kevin.  WE LOVE IT!!

Do to unforseen circumstances, I did not get to meet with the lady that had been asking about me. What do you know, another RAGOM volunteer couldn't stop thinking about me (FM says it's cause I have such a cute face) and we will be meeting with them on Saturday.  They want to add a member to their family and also need a companion for their lonesome Golden. I love everyone, so we think it is going to work out great.

I still get my ears washed out each day and I have been doing a great job keeping that pesky "Homer the neighbor cat" out of my yard and away from our birds, otherwise life has quieted down and we are back to what FM calls normalcy.  Isn't she silly?

"Jack, Sarah sent this for me." "No way Annie, me."

Wow, look at all these Christmas goodies. Aren't presents fun!

Goodness, it has been a busy place at our house and that is why we are so slow in our much needed "THANK YOUS" department, especially to Heather Steege for sponsoring me.  My FM said I have had a lot of expenses at the doctors and we really appreciate Heather for thinking so much of me.  I do want to tell you that I am feeling and looking (my FM showed me in that shiny thing) so very much better.  Also, thanks to  the anonymous donor, also Andrea, those dear people honoring their beloved Lacey and to my special friends Frank and Sarah for the generous Christmas greetings.

We have had so much fun.  I got to meet the "Grandkids"  from afar and I sure did like them.  They begged to take me home, but a nice lady is coming to meet me next week and FM said I may be getting a furever home.  Won't that just make the best New Years ever!  Oops, gotta run, I see that Jackson taking off with my Christmas bone.  A girl has to watch that guy all the time.

Annie did love Christmas and actually she kind of amazed me.  I originally said she would need a family with kids over five, but we have a 1 year old almost walker and 2 three year olds and she adored them and let them hang all over her.  She played with the big kids, got to take walks to the playground, played kick ball, begged treats from everyone with that adorable face and when they left after several days, neither Annie nor I wanted to crawl out of our beds.

Annie got her stitches out Monday and the vet thought she looked wonderful.  Annie just has that kind of face that steals hearts right away.  We still have some issues with the potty problem.  Just when we think all is going well, she has an accident and having tasty treats sneaked to her way more than was wise, was not a healthy thing for her.  So once again, we are back to being diligent.  Truthfully, this is Annie's (aside from thinking stuffed toys do not deserve to live) only vice, but it can be a problem and hope she soon understands ALL the rules, as she minds so well about everything else.

Annie, FM and FD wish all a Happy and Loving New Year to all the wonderful people and beloved pets in RAGOM-land!

You might be bigger Jack, but I'm tougher

Hi Annie here.  I have been been at FM & FDs for almost two weeks and boy do I ever like it here.  Nobody yells at me or smacks me and I get lots of yummy food and great treats especially from FD.  Only complaint, that pesky young pup Jackson can drive me nuts.  He wants to play all day long and I like a nice quiet nap now and then.  Talk to you soon, I hear that treat box a shakin'.

Hi FM here.  We won't fib to you, Annie looks a little tough yet.  But, even in this short time her coat is becoming shiny, she's filling out, working on cleaning up those ears and eyes.  At first Annie's tail hung so low you could hardly see that she had one, she was so unsure if she was doing everything right.  Now that tail can wag and she smiles at us, but I told FD that my goal is to see that tail lifted and waving like all happy goldens.  We are not there yet, but I know it is coming.  She had a few stomach issues for a few days, but I think she ate way more than she was used to and way too fast.  We have been giving small meals several times a day and that is working much better.  I think when she finally realizes breakfast and supper come regularly each day, she will be fine.

Annie is a wonderful being.  If you are looking for a sweet companion that will be loyal, mind perfectly and is easy to care for, look no further than our precious Annie girl.

Annie does not bark, growl, puts herself to bed between seven and eight each night which is so cute.  She does not need a fence and stays close by you outside, has perfect recall. She enjoys her walks, loves her naps, meets visitors very mannerly, never has even attempted to get on any furniture (I sit on the floor with her and she will cuddle right up).

Annie will be spayed on the 14th and then she can be ready sporting a big red bow to make a wonderful family Christmas gift!
