Reggie (Victor 11-332)

Profile

Here he is:

You have been waiting for him.  He is so worth the wait.  Victor is a fun exuberant puppy.  This young boy is ADORABLE.  He was rescued from a shelter that was overflowing with dogs and was scheduled to meet his maker (euthanized).  RAGOM pulled him 4 hours before the big stick.  He is so happy to be outta there and enjoying RAGOM life.  He was brought in as a stray in July, no microchip or ID.  Heaven's loss is our gain.

After his long transport from Iowa on Sat. and settling in with us in the evening, I gotta tell you he is a sweetheart. He met our RAGOM alum girls, Meg & Heather without a problem, in fact he LOVED them.  You can't blame him for that, they are beautiful. Buddy wants to play with our cat, MiMi but she's not interested and told him so. He is scheduled for his "snip" in a couple days.  He's received RAGOM vet check for the mandatory vaccinations, HW and fecal tests.  Results back tomorrow.  He is only 49 lbs and can gain about 5-10 lbs. The vet thinks he is about 18 months to 2 years.  He may have a slight allergy because his toes are pink, but I haven't seen any evidence of him itching or tending to his toes. Benedryl should be all he needs if I see him itching.

The first nite he spent in his crate.  A bit of crying but he settled down after 5 min. He got up with everyone else in the morning. I was tossing the tennis ball for him Sunday.  I asked him what his name is because he didn't have the slightest interest in Victor.  Are you Jake, Sam, Bailey, Boots, Jack? No response to any name.  Then I asked if he was Buddy.  He jumped up, started barking and kissing me. Seriously, is your name Buddy?   So now we are calling him Buddy. Someone loved and worked with him because he is sitting and staying on command.  I think he was taught "high ten" and to dance a little.  He has super recall now, too.

He eats his food slowly and does not guard toys or anything.  He is a sharer.  He takes treats very gently. He is learning not to jump on people or furniture.  I don't think he had much discipline because he counter surfs, jumps, mouths my hand (gently) and constantly wants to play.  Typical puppy behavior.  He is a quick study and will be easy to train.

He spent nite 2 in the bedroom on the bed, crashed until the alarm went off.  Today he was crated while I was at work.  Clean & no accidents all day.  Yea Buddy!!!  I will have more info. after his test results and neuter Wednesday.

If you want a very special boy that just needs a little polishing to be a great dog, let RAGOM know you are interested in Victor 11-332.

Hey Everyone,

Victor/Buddy/Reggie here.

When FM said some people were coming to meet me, I couldn't wait. I was so excited that I wanted to make sure they didn't miss the house. Maybe this will be my forever family.

I knew something was up today when FM started crying and hugging me, telling me to be a good boy and listen to my new parents. She said I had to go because the people that came yesterday wanted to be my forever family. She explained that's why I was here for such a short time and now there will be room for another furbutt to live here and find their new family. She said that's what a RAGOM foster does. They (Rescue) find a forever family (Rehome) for us furbutts and then start all over (Repeat) with another dog. She wore her RAGOM shirt to remind her of that.

Otherwise I mighta been a keeper.

Did you notice that I have another name? My new family thinks I have a "Reggie" personality so thats my new name. And WOW, I have a humungus yard, 2 cats and I get tons of love and attention from everyone and my mom works at a vet place. I will be a star student in dog school and maybe even learn agility. How cool is that. Here is our new family portrait.

Hey RAGOM - Thanks for the "Golden" life. I'm livin' it and lovin' it.

Hey Everyone,

Its falling leaf time.  I LOVE this time of year.  We are squeezing in lotsa racetrack running before snow time.

Something I love even more than racing around is my new toy.  Its like a bumpy ball that beeps.  That's right.  I said it beeps and it looks like a chubby frog.

I'm glad its green so it doesn't get lost.  Heather is happy cuz her head isn't in my mouth as much anymore.  Meg is happy cuz her feet aren't in my mouth as much anymore.

And FM is glad cuz a quiet dog is a happy dog.. ;-)  When we're not playing outside we wrestle each other or play tug.

But there is a rule.  As soon as someone squeaks (usually Heather) the fun is over and we (mostly me) gets calm down time.

I've been helping with the dishes.

And reminding the FPs to store the table for snow time.

Needless to say that was a "No, get down" moment.  Kinda reminds you of the question during the home visit about standing on the kitchen table.  How did you answer that one ;-)

Sunday Bauer & Cooper came over and we got lots of treats.

We ran and chased and had a blast.

If you are looking for a fun, loving, sweet, adorable silly boy, then search no more.  I would be great as a running, jogging partner or I would probably do really good at agility.  I need a lot of playtime and you-time cuz I have a lot of energy.  I want to be where you are and I will be your bestest "Buddy".  I LOVE kids but I might be a little too exuberant for little ones.  I love to cuddle and I will keep you warm at snowtime.  I'd prefer to be your only dog, but that is negotiable and if you have a cat, we can work that out too. I'm not sure about dog parks cuz I can't go to those when I'm a foster.  I'd like a fence, but thats negotiable, too.  So, there ya have it.

Contact your placement advisor if you want to meet me.  Thanks for reading about me.

Yo, Hey everybody.  I have two words;  Yeeee Owwwwie.  I didn't like that "fix" at all.  I don't hear the "no no" word when I play" with the girls anymore. And Heather doesn't growl at me anymore either.  So I guess we are all happy about that.

I have been busy going places.  Foster mom brought me to my first RAGOM event, the Great MN Pet Together. Word is that I am EXUBERANT and RAMBUNCTIOUS.  I announced my arrival so that everyone was prepared to meet me.  And I wanted to meet everyone cuz I was so excited.  What can I say?  I'm still a puppy.  I think I'm younger than they think.  I was nervous at first but a couple RAGOM people took turns walking me around so I could meet other furbutts without talking and I did great after a while.  I need to learn to meet dogs without talking and jumping,  We think I need the nose to butt greeting instead of the nose to nose howdy do is best for me.  Once we figured that out, it was time to leave and then everyone wanted me to stay.  We were exhausted after all that.  But I still had energy for yardplay with the girls when we got home.

Sunday FM & FD took us to "get blessed' in honor of St. Francis at the downtown church.

I announced our arrival to the million dogs and cats and people.  Big little, all colors, tall, short.  I met a lot of them.  I whispered with a couple RAGOM dogs about their "adoption" experience.

One word they described about their new life....AWESOME!  I'm anxious to find my forever family now and I will work on calming down before I meet dogs and to stop barking to get my way.  That nite FM took Meg & Heather to get a Thai massage.  And FM talked with the invisible lady when she was whispering to me through the air. The lady said I need to get grounded (WHAT??-I'm not even that naughty).  OK, I misunderstood. Not grounded like in punished.  So FM is helping me calm down and she whispers to me while she holds my paws on the grass.

Kinda weird, but we think its working.  Another thing the invisible lady said I need is to go on walks to let me smell stuff and just enjoy being a dog.  So I get to smell the whole neighborhood.  I met the 3 lady huskies down the block and that was fun. And I met Banjo, the boxer boy.  That was good, too.

I have a new favorite blue ball with a handle that I love to chase.  I do a victory prance around the yard everytime before I give it back.

Yea, thats right, I said "prance."

FM says I'm so proud of myself that I look like a proud stallion.

MiMi & I have come to an understanding.  She doesn't tease me and I don't chase her.  Saturday she wasn't eating her food fast enough so I jumped on the bathroom counter to help her.  That was a BIG No No.  And then she wasn't finishing her treats fast enough so I jumped on the kitchen counter to help her.  That was an even BIGGER No No.  FM said that behavior reminded her of the question on the Home Visit Application.  You know the one about getting on the kitchen table.  If the camera was handy, I would have been captured forever in disgrace on Facebook.

On the positive side, I'm learning a lot of new words like "go back to sleep---10 more minutes." and "go back to sleep, its Saturday".   I'm learning to ride nice in the car. I'm liking my crate "house" more cuz I eat and get treats in it.  FM says I should do that cuz I'm a pokemon eater.  (I eat really slow).  Meg & Heather are speedy gonzaleses.  (They eat really fast).  They would eat my food if given the opportunity.  I'm learning Off and Down. They are confusing.  I don't guard but I do swipe stuff from the girls cuz they let me.  When I do that, it gets taken away from me.  And then nobody gets it.

Yesterday Meg and FM talked with me about barking when we go outside. They said if I barked, yardplay would stop for everyone.  I listened really well.  This morning we went outside to play and I didn't bark once.  They were really happy about that and super proud of me. Treats for everyone and lots of "Good Boy" Buddy.

Ooops gotta go before this turns into a book.  Catch ya later,

Victor aka Buddy

We are happy the fecal and heartworm tests are negative and the neuter went well. He was licking the area so we put a cone on him.

It is flexible and he can still reach back there, but has to really stretch and work at it. By the time he reaches there, he gives up. Ever constant is his favorite tennis ball. He's an expert at scooping it up and maneuvering around the house. If he loses that ball under or behind something, he finds a way to retrieve it back.

He refuses to go back in the crate so we trusted him with free roam today. Yea!!! No problem except the water was knocked over. That was expected. Tomorrow the cone comes off.

Let me remind you that he may be close to 2 but he is still a puppy. If you're looking for a well behaved calm couch potato, he is not the dog for you. If you want a loving, playful silly ball chaser, bed warmer, healthy young quick study boy, you will fall in love with him.

Victor/Buddy will be at the Pet Get Together this Saturday from 12:00-2:00.
