Guess what you get when you mix-up a little Golden, a little Lab, a little Spaniel, and possibly a dash of Jack Russell Terrier??? You GET a Matty Pie!!! Well, were not sure of the exact ingredients in this girl but you can be sure she’s the perfect blend of something!

Please WELCOME our newest RAGOM Girl Ms. Matty! Matty blew in from the far north late last night (Thank you Ross for the looooong journey and for bringing Matty safely into RAGOM) and after a pretty smooth introduction to the Pack…a couple lip curls when the boys got in her face…but after awhile, the lip curl turned in to licks of love and all has been good ever since.

Resident Jonah, Foster Boy Pete 09-446, & Matty 11-331

What we know so far about this Cutie Pa-Tootie:

  • Matty is a 2 yr. old, 60lb, female Golden MIX, who was found as a stray by a rescue group way up north. Shortly after she was placed in a foster home, Mattie gave birth to a nice little litter of pups. All Mattie’s pups have since been adopted out by a Rescue and so RAGOM’s help was enlisted to help find Momma Matty a GReat home of her very own. And you know we will!
  • Matty is in VERY good health overall and is Heartworm NEGATIVE! We are waiting on stool results.
  • Matty LOVES people---she is a TOTAL SNUGGLE BUG!
  • Matty is very playful and her tail never stops wagging J

  • Matty is compact, solid, lean, and gorgeous. Quite a figure for Post Puppies!

  • Matty was obviously trained by someone at sometime…she is a hunting girl---no bunnies will be safe in our yard that’s for sure. She seems to have good recall and knows “sit,” “stay,” & "shake.”

I’ll get ‘em FM!

  • Matty is good with her crate. Will sleep in it with the door open or closed. We crate her at night and while we are away. She slept through the night without a peep on her very first night!

  • Matty is not totally potty trained…but she is doing well considering she’s been living outside with access to a shed for shelter for the last six months (without a fence) and was a stray before that. It was mentioned that Mattie didn’t like the house and wouldn’t come inside---but she has had NO problem enjoying the comforts of the home. Her doggie bed is her favorite so far!
  • Matty is all up to date with her shots and is being scheduled for her spay so as soon as that is complete, she will be ready for adoption---BUT we are ready to meet applicants now so don’t be shy!

Please stay tuned for more on Matty Pie! If you would like to meet Mattie---please let your Placement Advisor know! Depending on her spay schedule…we are planning to attend the “Meet & Greet” at Chuck & Don’s--Bloomington Event this Sunday…stay tuned....

Updates

Matty has learned not to fear getting into vehicles! We think that coming from a rural area, perhaps she had very little car-riding experience. Once she saw her fur-brothers hop in, she decided to give it a try, but wasn't real sure how it was done. She placed her paws and chin on the car floor and Foster Dad lifted the rest of her in. After going to the beach, she decided that car rides are lots of fun, and hops right in when the door is open now!

One thing we really enjoy about Matty is how she expresses herself with her tail. If she's on lying on the floor and there is some excitement, a thump-thump-thump is sure to be heard. Major excitement results in full-body wags and a smiling face. Her tail and body are compact enough that nothing is ever knocked off the coffee table.

She continues to amaze us with her knowledge of commands. I asked her to lay down the other day so I could check her spay area. Usually, I have to coax dogs to get them to lay, if they ever do at all. Not Matty, I asked once and she layed right down on her back with paws up!

Matty has a high prey drive. This means she is a perfect lady walking on a leash unless she sees a squirrel, and then she lunges. Use of a gentle leader will help curb this behavior. We don't recommend that she live with a cat, but with training it is possible that she could be trained to leave a cat alone.

If you are looking for a bedtime snuggler, look no further. Most dogs that have slept on our bed, wind up down at the end by our feet. Not Matty, she likes to sleep right next to you and close. For those of you that don't want a dog to sleep with you, she is just as content on a couch or dog bed. Like I said, this girl is flexible!

Matty amazes me with her fetching of balls. When I throw the ball, I don't have to say one word to prompt her. She immediately retrieves the ball and drops it at my feet. Recently while walking on leash through the woods, she picked up a fresh rabbit kill. Foster Dad was able to take it out of her mouth without a struggle from Matty. We think someone must have trained her well or else she is naturally smart and obedient. She is also a nice sized dog at 60 pounds.

We have had the joy of being Matty’s permanent foster family in Duluth, Minnesota, for one week now. Matty is a great dog – easy-going, well-mannered, loving and fun. She gets along well with other dogs, kids and adults. She is loyal and goes with the flow. Matty is not aggressive, but will bark at strange noises or people.

Matty is housetrained and crate-trained. She is content sleeping either in a crate, on the couch, or in bed snuggling with you. She is smart and knows sit, stay, come, lay down, fetch/return/drop ball and will sit with paws up for company. She does not chew on inappropriate items or resource guard her food. She will take shoes or clothing to mouth and we are working to correct this behavior.

Cats and squirrels are not safe around Matty. She needs a moderate amount of exercise and walks well on the leash. She stays in the yard and does not run off. Matty does not like to get in vehicles, but once she’s inside, she does fine.

Matty is fully updated on vaccinations, spayed, frontlined and heartworm negative. We think she would do well either with a single person or family, with or without other dogs, so long as she received a lot of attention. She would make an excellent loyal and fun companion.

Hi Matty Fans!!!

Matty was on the move today traveling from her temp foster home (Hugo) to her perm foster home (Duluth).

Riding Shot-gun!

Oftentimes a foster is not available when a dog needs to come into RAGOM so we offer to temp foster until a foster becomes available and this was the case with Matty. We so enjoyed the short time we had with Matty!!! We will miss her dearly ---that is...everyone except Little Jonah...who I'm sure did a little happy dance when Matty left---HA!!! Jonah is the "baby" of the pack and not the biggest Matty fan...but the rest of us will miss her cuddles, her kisses, her sweet playful nature and her ever happy face! Of course she had to give us the sad face when we said good-bye...but as soon as she saw her new FM, her tail started wagging and off she went!

We're here already?

While Matty has met some pretty nice families this week, "Mattilocks" has not found her "just right" just yet. So...we will be watching her continued journey in RAGOMland from afar---cheering her on every step of the way! Matty's Duluth foster home is soooo perfect for her...two fun fur-brothers, a big fenced yard, and a wonderful FM & FD to cuddle with and love. Ahhhh...life is good!

We love you Matty! Keep in touch!

HI Everyone!! It's ME--Matty!!!

Boy do I feel GREAT! FM & FD let me run like crazy now and I'm having lots of fun with my fur-brothers. FM calls me a "Little Tease" and FD thinks I'm the poster dog for "Little 2yr. old sister--aka Pest." What can I say...I like to PLAY!

I sure hope my Forever Home has a playmate of some kind that I can play with! I'm pretty fast and I love to hop and pounce and wrestle around. I also LOVE stuffed toys with SQUEEKERS in them!!!!! Well...I do my best to free that squeeker so I can play with it. So far, I de-stuffed about four and I'm currently working on #5. FM gave me a really cool toy that I can't get the squeeker out of----I've been carrying it around for 2 days now and I can't get at it.

I was a pretty good girl at the event on Sunday. So many people came out to see me and so many dogs. I like some of the doggies, but not all---those hyper, "in-your-face" type drive me nuts...can't tell you why..it's just a thing...you 2-leggers understand don't you? But, give me a yard full of dogs without leashes on and I'm in heaven! I've heard of dog parks---I think I would LOVE dog parks!!!

Well..gotta run and play before it's time for bed. Talk to you soon!

Hi Matty Fans!!!

Just a quick update on this wonderful little lady!!! Matty is recovering extremely well and so she will be at the event for sure tomorrow! We hear she has some "interested" visitors coming to see her! YEAH! That makes us very happy because this little doll is so special and we can't wait for her to have her very own family!!!

Matty LOVES our daughter and so every chance she gets...she either crawls in bed with her or cuddles up next to Kalee when she is doing her homework :)

Matty also LOVES other dogs! She doesn't care for the young pups getting right in her face (I'm sure that is because she was a recent Momma) but once the ground rules are laid, she enjoys playing with everyone! This is Miley---our 8yr. old female. The second day here, Matty and Miley got into a little scuffle and had to "work out who was the boss of whom."

Well, Miley--as always--is the Boss of the whole pack and once Matty understood this concept...they became good pals. Miley even instigates playtime now with Matty.

More pictures coming soon....we just had a wonderful photo workshop at our home....can't wait to show you all the pictures of Matty...

See you all at the Chuck & Don's event on Sunday!!! Matty is sooooooooooooo excited!

Hello Matty Fans!!!

This little sweetheart has been around the world since arriving in RAGOMland!!! She's been to the Vet, to the Groomer, and made a special quick trip in to be spayed today!!! Thank you MNSNAP!!!

We found out Maddy's last litter was May 1st so we didn't want to take any chances that she would go into heat. This girl is done being a Momma forever!! YEAH!

Matty has shown us one thing for sure---She is a TOTAL LOVE BUG!

Matty is not a huge fan of getting IN the car...but once in, she is the perfect shotgun rider! She even makes a great deer deterrent! Matty has this very deep bark that doesn't come out too often, and it totally seems odd coming out of such a little girl---but she does feel the need to make her presence known to the "locals" (horses, deer, and cows) as we drive by! HA!

Matty was a total champ today for her spay. They couldn't get over what a sweet dog she is! Now it's time for Matty to rest and heal up. Lots of snuggles tonight!

We'll see how Matty heals up over the next few days and if all is well, we will still make a short appearance at the Chuck & Don Event on Sunday! Shooting for 11-12:30.

P.S. Matty is soooo smart! She hasn't had an accident since the first day. She figured out really quick that going potty outside wins her a yummy treat. Yesterday, she went potty and came right to me for a treat. Then walked out about 20 feet, went potty, came to me for a treat....and repeat and repeat....HA!!! Smart little cookie indeed! We are also on a very routine schedule with our dogs so that helps with Matty's potty training as well.
