Stanley safely arrived from Iowa on Sunday night and by Tuesday he was acting like he owned the place. He comes from a home where he was well loved and spoiled crazy. Due to a combination of human health issues and Stanley’s puppy like energy, he was brought into Ragom. Now, we all know that Ragom is a Golden Retriever rescue group and we happily expand that definition for dogs in need.  BUT, how Stanley passed security and got into a Golden rescue is beyond me. He looks more labra-doodle than golden-doodle but the key point is he is a sweet, loving, wonderful dog. We are more than happy to welcome him into the club.  He is big, beautiful, and catches the eye of everyone he goes by.  On his walks, Stanley has met many dogs and happy greets and tries to play with each one. He is very gentle with the small ones. He met a puppy and was very sweet and careful with him. He also loves people and when he sees someone, his whole rear end just wiggles non-stop. Even though he is about 14 months old, he is really just a big puppy himself.  Tomorrow he goes to the vet to be brought up to date on shots, a wellness check, and we will make arrangements for the “big snip”.  That’s right, our sweet Stanley is not neutered but that will change.  This is a wonderful dog and as we learn more, we will update the site. Everybody clap their hands. Stanley had his neuter yesterday and came through with flying colors. He was pretty groggy when he got home but lots of sleep and Metacam pain reliever seemed to help. When being neutered, he also had his microchip inserted and his nails clipped.  So all in all it was a tough Monday for Stanley. But he is a bit more bouncy today and now comes the challenge of keeping him quiet while he heals. Once recovered (10-14 days) our boy will be up-to-date on all shots, micro chipped, neutered and ready to go. He could use a bath but that’s out until he is fully healed.  He remains a wonderful dog and is easy to love. P.S. – don’t tell FM that Stanley was on the good couch. He has his own but FD thought he looked so comfortable, he couldn’t make him get down.

Stanley has settled in very nicely and is doing well. He continues to be friendly with every dog and every person we meet. I think he is getting more exercise now and some of the nervous energy he first exhibited in now gone. He is learning that mouthing while playing is not acceptable and he just loves to walk and play.  He would do great with another dog. He went to the vet yesterday and is now up to date with all shots, he is heartworm negative, and his joints, heart, lungs, tummy all seem to work like they are supposed to. He is not very food motivated so we are looking for something to help with training. So far we know it is not kibbles, not Cheerios, not hot dogs. Next up – cheese wiz. Stanley is a sweet, loving and lovable dog. He is reliably house trained and has free run of the house. (The first day he  tried to chew on the leg of a wicker basket but since he has gotten more exercise, he seems to have less interest.) We have fallen in love with him and yes – he does have two eyes under that fur.
